I'm done with the crown and I'm now able to start making the hands. I'm still deciding if I should make it able to open and close to grip the horns.

Also I engraved the chest design but I think I need to make it a little more deeper. The upper arms looks colored silver because I tested plating it in silver to see if it looks okay.

That Garada is looking so perfect I don't know how else to compliment it. The work-in-progress alone is a beautiful progression! This is the best custom project I've seen since our friend who made/machined that custom RoboCain a few years back. zozo-mag

Thanks guys, I also figured out how I can make the blade pattern on the horns. I also realized that Bandai screwed up the paint on the SOC Garada horns. They painted it black on the outside perimeter instead of being metallic color, which is incorrect. magengarI checked out that Robocain project, it was absolutely brilliant. I can tell making those parts was a real challenge, it takes very good machining skills to pull that off and a lot of expensive raw materials. I can see it was a real labor of love

gravewolf Yes, that Robocain project was exciting to watch. I enjoy watching these projects as they progress along. It's very educative, and the finished pieces look so amazing, they add to the excitement in this forum! zozo-mag

I'm almost finished with the hands. I've decided to make it close and open. There's gonna be a small spring inside the hands so that it would provide the right amount of friction on the fingers when it grips the horn. The only problem I'm having right now is deciding whether I should use a magnet to attach the hands to the arms or some other type of connection. I've been looking at buying some cylindrical neodymium magnets to use in my next project to make some of the connection joints a lot easier which would also lessen the amount work needed to make the parts. I might post the pics tomorrow with the hand attached if things go well.

I'm done with the hands and I'm going with magnets as a way to attach it to the arms. These are the parts inside the hands.

I can still attach the hands but it's only friction that keeping it from falling out.

Awesome. I greatly admire your work. How much does this garada weigh now?

Awesome. I greatly admire your work. How much does this garada weigh now? I haven't properly weighed him yet, but I think he's about 300 grams. He's more or less completed at this stage since I still have to polish him and install some of the magnets for his hands. I actually think I can still do better on my next project based on the things I learned while making this. The next robot I'll be working on is Dai Apolon

WOW, great work ! Waist joint gives a nice dynamic curve...

WOW, great work ! Waist joint gives a nice dynamic curve... It also helps with balancing when he gets posed. I was gonna make the waist just twist left and right but I'm glad I went with the extra effort of making a ball joint waist.

Having a curved pose from pelvis to shoulders increase the monster attitude and brings a nice silhouette.

I am having problems with plating right now. I think I need to plate the copper parts in nickel, though the brass parts have done well in the silver plating process. My real problem is that were out of nickel plating solution and I don't know when we're gonna resupply since it's been a long time since we plated anything in nickel. If things don't turn out well with the plating I'm moving forward with having it painted instead. Though I'm considering having a professional take care of the painting since I honestly suck at it.

If Doctor Hell were a real live person he would be Very proud of you for making this Garada figure! Look at those gripping hands, they got that awesome Choke-hold vibe about them and they grip the horn blade so perfectly! The articulation all over that figure works so fluidly, just looking at how the figure is posed I can actually feel its dynamics. Your articulation design is working so perfectly for your custom figures! zozo-mag

magengarI honestly feel there's still room for improvements, some of the joints didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. But I'm satisfied with the hands and I'll most likely use this design on future projects. I actually wasn't expecting that I can make it properly work since I've never really had the opportunity to make articulated hands on a figure. I think I won't be using copper anymore since it's been giving me problems since it's hard to solder it to other metals like brass and silver. I'm definitely incorporating some magnetic joints on my next project as I've thought of a better joint design using it.

I can only imagine the difficulty of soldering different metal materials together. Sometimes it's necessary in order to achieve the results you're looking for between working parts. Nonetheless the challenge is fun and there's always new stuff to learn. zozo-mag
