I think the 3A Mazinger would look like a total junk when compared side by side to the DX SOC Mazinger. The original Mazinger design for me is still the best, no other interpretation can take away the beauty of a simple design.

May only appeal to the very hardcore Mazinger Z fans probably. I mean, the "steampunk" look was already done by Artstorm/Fewture. So, that angle's covered already...still, we could always use ANOTHER Mazinger Z, right right right? ;D
Maybe ThreeA will go the Bandai route and get us a black version, a gold version, an anime-color version, Type R version, Mugen version, TRD version, Nismo version...etc.

i had my doubts on this thing, although is not for me, it doesn't look bad as i was expceting. In fact it looks pretty good for a steampunk version as it should be, more on the lines of a reality than fiction on how it would work.

I know, right. That's what bugs me about this thing... I wanna dislike this specimen, but the steam-punk style is drawing me to it. If Mazinger-Z were to exist in real life as a real giant robot, looking like That, I would be all over it like a kid in Santa's lap at Easter time.
The Fewture's 1901 Mazinger-Z figure didn't appeal to me at all, even though it does look Sick. The 1969 version was more easy on my eyes, and I really like that design so much now more than ever.
Now here comes this thing-a-ma-jig that is pulling me apart between dismissing it and admiring it...
...it would be a really cool rendition if the leg design matched the cylinder shape aesthetics of the arms; and then ditch all those huge handles; or at least shrink them handles down, and place them in areas were maintenance crews could climb inside Maz for repairs and routine maintenance.
If this figure were to be solid vinyl, I'd dig it a lot. If this figure were to be Diecast, I'd like it a lot more.
Looks like we'll have to wait and see what it becomes as soon as fans here have this thing and post pics with it.

I think I'm pretty close to have every modern (or not vintage) Mazinger Z figure, from gashapon to Jumbo... but it has to be Mazinger. To me, this thing is as close to being Mazinger as Justin Biever is to being Chuck Norris. Yeah, it has its charm, just like these below: These are all acquired tastes... that I could never acquire. TBH, even thou I do not like the following figure, I respect its design a lot more than the ThreeZero one: At least Medicom was consistant with their take on Mazinger. No mix and match of shapes in their figure. }D

Thanks for that image link.
I clicked on that link, but macrossworld sez I "do not have permission to view this image".
I despise websites that do such things. And I have ZERO respect for such websites. If it weren't for that "permission to view" bullsh*t I would have gladly signed up as a member just to view the image and participate more often in their forums. So, screw them, it's Their loss. And they'd Better NOT send me any invites to join or Facebook requests, cos I will block them out.
First of all, they do Not own the image, they got the image from another source; so then why the fk should the website claim "ownership" of the image! smh
Back on topic.

So you either save it to your computer and upload it on a host site yourself or link to it, but never steal the bandwidth. 6- That automatic message that for some reason gets so up your crack is doing its job: prevent people from stealing bandwide. Yes, it also looks like doing that prevents me linking to the image from working as a side effect, but keeping MW’s bandwide relatively safe keeps costs down (your “respect” or not on the other hand does not). MW isn't photobucked, it’s a forum. And it cost a lot of money to maintain it free from publicity and with unlimited upload space for its members. I don’t get the need to tear it a new one just because of an automatic measure to reduce costs from bandwidth loss.

This design isn't for me but I DO like how other people re-imagine Mazinger. It's still Mazinger Z just viewed through a different looking glass, it's not suppose to replace the original but it is a nice tribute and example of how influential Mazinger Z still is today.

My beef with figures like these is that they do not truly try to re-imagine Mazinger. They throw together a bunch of shapes in the bottom half of the figure, but leave the upper half basically untouched. If companies want to re-imagine a character, how about totally starting from the "head" and working your way down to the feet... For example, if I paint this figure completely black, and show folks a picture of the upper half, they will instantly recognize it is Mazinger Z. If I on the other hand, show a picture of the lower half, people will have no idea what it is, other that some sort of robot. Companies should try to be more original IMO. }D

I guess there are just some design cues that have to stay like the chest pieces and head design. Even Fewture doesn't muck around to much with the heads of their figures. For me though if your gonna go with squared off legs then do the same for the shoulders and chest too. Keep the design uniform.
