page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m119611621Aside from picking up the Kamen Rider villain jumbos, the Q9 is the only other villain jumbo that I want....but not at that price with a visible defect. But of course the rarity would leave me at wanting one in any condition.

Sat and watched that one go this morning. After the MIB Voltes last week, I was curious to see how high it would go.

I expected high, but not that high. And just think that a decade ( and a better economy )ago for 3 grand more you could have gotten the rarest of rare Garada. There are quite a few very nice jumbos on auction right now with some fairly high starting prices that sit there with no one bidding. I bet if they lowered the entry point, they would get close to if not higher than the entry price as people get caught up in the bidding.

A lot of deep pockets out there! I don't know anymore if it's love of the hobby or people thinking about investments. It's really hard to get a decent priced, good jumbo.

That Q9 ended at what seems a really low price for such a rare piece. And it's probably due to the fact that this seller has sold what might be fake villains in the past and I wouldn't be suprised that this Q9 was a fake too. There's some details on the paint that are not really accurate or constant with all the other "real" specimen that I know. Beside, it's a super rare items and it's the third this guy is selling this year. Too good too be true.
So I guess that the low price for such a Q9 is actually because the people after such a rare toy are more or less aware of what they see and they just don't bid on it.

Great idea for a thread. I made a run at Daltanious this week but came up short. The price is getting crazier and crazier. I guess I'll never get my dream jumbos without selling my entire collection first.

Fakes? Why isn't there anything in their feedback about it or why are they allowed to continue selling? There was a seller that Rinkya warned me about, but it wasn't this one. I mailed them about specific pieces I was looking for (Dablas M2 in particular) and they specifically told me to stay away from a certain seller because he sold repro pieces and repaired jumbos to pass off as real, but it was in that seller's feedback too.

It's always interesting to see people's top must buys. My tops are Kame Bazooka, Hasami Jaguar and Taihou Buffalo.

I guess that if can't tell it's a fake by looking at the picture, not sure you can tell when you have it in hand. The previous Q9 that this seller sold was really too good to be true, all clean and freshly painted. I've check in the feedback and the buyer is just giving a positive feedback. I know that it might sound paranoiac but at one point and especially at this level of price I don't trust a seller on his feedback. He can have some other ID's to make the price go high, then sell it to his other ID just to legitimate the item and sell it privately to somebody else. When such amount are in play, people can be really smart and creative to mess with you. I've see some fake Doublas sold by another seller and a few weeks after beeing sold by this guy. And no trace in the feedback after. Pretty strange IMO. As for the Daltanious this week end, as usual I was not expecting to see it go that high. Last one boxed ended like 100.000 Yens cheaper. Every time I think it will go high, and every time it's even higher. I guess that I have to start thinking that it will end low so maybe it will end lower ))) I'm happy that my wish list is complete and I will avoid more madness.

Top must buys... Easy, and not as hard to get... Dangard, T-28, Poseidon.... Reasons, Dangard to finish my Trinity, Poseidon to go with my Getters, and T-28 because I think he's friggin cool!!!

Dangard is not easy to get and especially not for cheap. T-28 & Poseidon are easier to get & cheaper. I would consider Dangard a 6 out of 10 on a rarity scale, while Daltanious would be an 8/8.5.
Lower range rarity JM's are still somewhat affordable but anything even halfway rare is going to cost an arm and leg....and not of the polyethylene kind.
I'm discouraged but fortunate to have what I do have. That being said, I don't think my collection is going to grow much further. I'm at a critical point in my collecting where I have all of my lower-mid range wants and now I'm going after some tough to find JM's which puts me in a sea of collectors that have deeper pockets, more contacts and more knowledge of the Jumbo game.
I've begun to ask myself if finding my holy grails (Godsigma, Daltanious, Daidenjin, Gordian, Mekanda & Daiku Maryu) really warrant going into my savings and putting my wants before that of my family). Although my daughter is only 17 months old and we're hoping for a 2nd child, college will come quickly and the cost will be even crazier than it is today.
Time to put on my thinking cap...

Yeah, perhaps easy was the wrong word when Dangard is involved. "Less lofty of a goal than some."

I actually thought the price was low, having seen 8-13k for them in past year. Was wondering about wether it was a copy or not as I had seen that seller with quite a few other nice pieces. If they aren't pushing copies they have quite the stash..

Kind of makes you scared to put that kind of money down knowing that it could be a fake.

That's the problem with buying from YHJ if you are using one of those services, there's not much you can do if it is fake. By the time the toy gets to you, it may be too late. Ebay at least you get the item right away and can file a claim. Don't see these prices going down any time soon. I thought the Garada went for $20,000 years ago. Rodman, I see your grails are mostly Robot Factory. I wonder when did those become rare? I don't think it was rare 10 years ago. Reading Jumboland, it says Godsigma could be had pretty easily. I think as long as you look, you'll always find a deal somewhere. How would you guys rate the Robot Factory jumbos in terms of rarity? I think it goes like this, least rare to rarest - Battle Fever J, Daltanius and Gordian are a tie, Godsigma, Daidenjin. This is based on what I've seen being sold the past few years. There has been quite a few Daltanius and Gordians being sold the past year. As a matter of fact, I've seen more of the two than Battle Fever. Voltes V isn't particularly rare but goes for bank due to being a popular robot, especially i parts of Asia.

I love the look of the RF JM's. They are rare for me I guess. I don't see them that often and I check both E-Bay & YJA daily. The prices for them are exorbitant. I'm not concerned with someone making a fake JM. Lying about repro parts would piss me off though. Jumbo prices aren't coming down (imo) anytime soon. Maybe in 5-10 years when some of the heavy hitters start selling off their collections we can start getting better prices.

Correction on my part, the Garada went for $15,000....but still compared to what the defective and suspect Q9 just went for, it's a bargain for the rarest of rare jumbos. Did we ever get any confirmation on whether it's 3 or 4 in existence?
As far as rare goes on some of these pieces, it might just be that right now people are holding on to their collectibles and they just aren't hitting the market which gives the appearance of rarity. There are some pieces in other styles of toys (sofubi) that I've been looking for that aren't rare by any means but they don't come up for sale very often which gives the appearance of rarity.

Yeah. People are probably holding the pieces but I don't think you will see the prices go down that much unless a company decides to reissue. Right now, there are more collectors than there are those toys so something that goes up for auction will get the crazy price treatment most likely. But as I said, patience is important. I hate to wait but in my experience, you will always be able to find a better deal if you. (Something goes up for auction when many don't have money for jumbos at that time, etc)
I like the robot factory pieces as well. They are unique.

First Garada on auction was at Mandarake auction and sold for something like 2.250.000 Yens or something like that. Then another one sold on YJP for 1.700.000 Yens. As of today, there's only three known to exist but It seems that a few people in HK are saying they have one but no picture to prove it. Not all collectors like to share with the rest of the world.
Regarding the Robot Factory and their rarity. Battle Fever was a pretty common one a few years ago and could be had for quite cheap even MIB. The next one after that being Gordian. Daltanious was quite sought after so always going for a nice amount. Godsigma and Daidejin were the harder one to find but you can even place Daidenjin above I think as there's been much much more Godsigma for sale in the past decade compare to Daidenjin. One thing is sure is that this line is highly popular these days, even more than a few years back. It's interesting to notice that it's one of the latest line up produced by Popy and for a long time people were not really focusing on them.
