Uhmm, not really. There really isn't a "full HD" or a "half HD" stuff. That's prolly an old awkward marketing term to sell flatscreen LCDs and plasma tv's. The "i" (interlaced scan) and "p" (progressive scan) are just, well, scanning techniques/systems. It doesn't really refer to the amount of pixels being processed/transmitted/sourced. Doesn't matter, 1080i is sh*t quality compared to 1080p. If you absolutely must have a lower data stream, use 720p. That's quite a common misconception. Sometimes quite unfounded since the actual difference between 1080i vs 1080p vs 720p are only really detectable during lab measurements using the boring NTSC reference test patterns or something. Doesn't really show up or even noticeable in actual playback of video. For example, some known BBC nature-show BD releases (Human Planet, Frozen Planet) are 1080i, but you really wouldn't notice any drop in video quality. Even Planet Earth BD was originally 1080i/50, but just slowed down to 1080p/24 for the initial US release. Usually, the common issue of interlaced video are usually due to a crappy de-interlacer from the tv or the dvd/bd player (or both), and due to crappily produced shows. ^_^;

Also, I need the top and bottom bars for placing subtitles above the bottom bar that way my subs can be seen on TV when I burn a disc. I've had folks in the past complain that they can't see my subs in the picture; so I'm assuming they're watching my old-school DVD in a blu-ray player or something like that. Use white or yellow subtitles with black borders. They can be read against any background.Gotcha. Thanks! zozo-mag

Maybe you can't tell, but I can...especially when we're talking about something animated at 12 frames a second. the question is can we fix the black bars or not ? if not we should go to the DVD for the best enjoyment lol I don't really understand. What exactly do you need "fixed"? If you're gonna be watching it on a widescreen display, you're gonna get black bars on the sides no matter what you're watching it in.
