Think Carl is gonna write a scathing review of this one too?
Personally I wish Discotek had finished releasing the Toei Mazinger canon before moving on to Shin. Also a bummer there's no blu-ray.

Hmmm... should I get this or skip it... Definetly not a fan of the "Sin" Mazinger anime, but I feel like it should be part of my collection anyway since I have the figures . At least I have a very long time to decide! }D

True. They should do Mazinger Z volume 2, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Getter Robo, and Getter Robo G! I would also love to see God Mazinger being released, but I know that's probably never going to happen. }D

I dunno TMZ, never say never.
Remember, there was a time when we said that exact same thing about Mazinger Z - and I used to think that way about Fist of the North Star - but look where we are now!

Watch the whole series when it came out a few years back. There wasn't too much robot action.

I have mixed feelings about that show. Some of it was "wow that's so awesome" and then some stuff was just a little too out there. I guess I was hoping the plot was just a refresh of the original, and not a re-imagining.

When it comes to Mazinger-Z DVDs online, avoid any and all of them at eBay like the plague! ------------------- As for any torrent versions available: there are none. Because companies such as SelectaVision and Discotek are the current license holders, and they are demanding torrent sites to take down any fansub versions of the Mazinger-Z series. Any stray versions looming around online are probably the HK DVD-Rip version with the horrible English subs. You'll wanna avoid those like the plague as well. ------------------- The Mazinger Movie OVAs: I recommend the official Toei Blurays. ------------------- A couple years ago I shared " Mazinger-Z vs Ankoku Daishogun" ( my English subbed version) online thru Youtube and through torrent, and I had received Take-down notices from Toei through Youtube's admin. Youtube had also blocked my uploaded version in all countries, and threatened to close my account if I didn't comply with their copyright policies. I never bothered to respond to all the notices and warnings I had gotten, and so therefore I do not wanna get into any more trouble with Toei and their license holders. ------------------- As for this DVD edition by Discotek ( Eastern Star), I definitely want this DVD version vols 1 and 2. I saw it recently go on sale at Walmart, and Vol 2 will be released next month. ------------------- I avoid SelectaVision's DVD and Bluray versions, with mad hatred. Because I suspect that SelectaVision may have stolen resources from the high-definition fansubbed versions that were shared in torrent sites..... and then they started issuing Take-down notices to all of the sites where the series was being file-shared. ....when I think about it, I have to question how the hell could SelectaVision come up with their DVD and Bluray versions so dam quickly?! zozo-mag

Who the hell is "Selectavision"?

Who the hell is "Selectavision"? My sentiments Exactly. Anyway, SelectaVision is a Spanish production company who also holds a license to produce Mazinger-Z and other animes for DVD and Bluray. They're a Spanish version of a WEP-Wannabe. This company distributes and sells their products to the Spanish/Latin American market. They dub animes in Spanish only. Therefore a 'gringo' like Me is SOL from that circle. ( And I'm a bilingual readin-writin-speaking freakin Puerto Rican!) And they were responsible for having all fansubbed Mazinger-Z series torrents taken down, including the take-down of the recent high-definition 22gigabyte Koshiryouku Edition (Photon Edition) in which I translated the subtitles to English almost four years ago. The Photon Edition contains all of the audio languages for the respective countries the series was broadcast in. The fansub group (whose name I will not mention) worked very hard to acquire all the audio and remastered it for high-definition along with the video. All of that hard work shot down. I don't even wanna go back to it anymore, after spending five sweltering hot summer months in my room translating and polishing the subtitles while reviewing them with each episode. And my downloaded copy is trapped inside a fkin hard-drive that still can't get recovered! The Photon Edition is nowhere available online, thanks to Selecta. I would rather buy an official DVD version from Diskotek before I support anything by SelectaVision. ......so, yes, I'm pissed at SelectaVision....... Who The Hell Are They! zozo-mag
