i came up with a huge measurements every one kept telling me its not going to work or at least make two cabinet and put them next to each other but the idea of dividing it from the inside is much better and neat for my case, i did not worry too much about the measurements, i informed my designer where i want the cabinets to be build and he worked out the proportions for me (i was even provided with 3 dimensional drawings before i approved its construction). however, i made mine so high that i used a ladder to access the top tiers of my cabinet, small proce to pay in order to store more stuff haha.

S-Gokin, the height and width sound about average but the depth seems a bit deep though. You might not be able to see the items at the back; unless you are thinking of an all around glass case. :-)

I'm all for the custom cabinet approach. For a time I was into the Detolf's but I found their limited size was such a hindrance to display a wide array of figures. I ended up giving them all to my parents.
There are a number of companies that sell large cabinets and, while it's been some time since I last looked, they can be had new for approximately $4-500ish. Your best bet is to scour Craigslist and look for small stores closing. This is where I bought one of mine for like $150 or so but well worth the hassle. Moving a built cabinet is no easy task but totally worth it once placed in the area you plan to display. As some have mentioned, it's definitely for a set-up in which you plan to be for a while since moving it can be a pain.

I display my toys.... in the closet It keeps them safe from the sunlight and dust hehe yours is a nice idea,, of somewhat kind of display wherein your collection has the option of being NOT ALWAYS VISIBLE. sometimes theres an instance wherin collectors dont wanna show thier collections.. specially that instance is.. when there are "hot girl guests" around.. and youre too shy about it hehe.. perhaps a remote controlled tint in the glass(Tony Stark's windows in IM 1) .. which u can hide or unhide your collection.. but ofcourse that would be expensive.

yes i did, and i found out i have alot of space for even two more cabinets with this same measurements luckily thank you this is exactly why i created this thread to seek other collectors opinions my old cabinet was 45cm (17inches) deep but the actual shelves are 38cm (14inches) deep since i will custom build a new one i thought it will be a good idea to make it deeper and yes the sides will have glass (like a window) but the back will be wood to over come the crowded look i thought of adding a tiny shelf inside every shelf (like stairs) yes i remember now that give me an idea about it, but mecha-mecha cabinet is the exact thing, i even draw some thing like it couple of weeks ago, i would like to share it but it will make you guys LOL

Detolf is good and convenient, as you can go buy it yourself and put together yourself (maybe with a little help since hauling those are real heavy). But it is not the best use of space. There is quite a few inches of dead space inbetween each detolfs, even when you have a bunch line up side by side to form a wall (I have 4 in my old set up). Custom cabinets are nicer. Just more work and money, as you need to find and research what you want and who to build them. In my newer place, I went with these IKEA Stuvas kids cabinet. Having 5 of these white ones running side by side filled up an entire wall of the toy room. My wife want something not see-through, so the room still look nice and clean without being too busy. But still an awesome display with all the doors opened. While the drawers and shelves are adjustable to your liking for specific figure heights, parts and boxes storage. Just another option out there, less conventional. www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19873733/

I have IKEA Expedit (now redesigned and renamed to the Kallax). I have 2 of the 2x4 units. Unfortunately, they no longer sell the glass doors for them though. www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/27534/EDIT: I wanted to get the Detolfs, but I was vetoed by my girlfriend, as she didn't care for how they looked.

FYI, kallax is NOT EXPEDIT quality. the sides and shelves are much thinner. and they have a lower weight rating. I bought a kallax and was afraid to use it as a detolf riser. luckily I found an EXPEDIT on Craigslist and that's what I use now.

That wont harm the plastics of course. the regular ikea led puck lights work great. the light is not as cool as I would like. it's pretty warm. but it still looks pretty clean. they're only like 25 bucks for a set of 4. m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/00119424/

Well I finally built my second shelf and mounted the two of them to the wall. My son is gonna be crawling and walking around soon so my wife was worried about him pulling the whole ordeal down on top of himself. I opted for the highest rated anchors for drywall (Right around 240 lbs) and with two per shelf those bad boys are rock solid. All that's left is to fasten some slideable plexiglass to the front of them and I'll have a semi-professional looking setup working. The shelves are the Perfect size for displaying my jumbos, with the other cubbies filled with the adjustable height spacers to allow me to display the rest of my junk comfortably. I'm really pleased to far. As soon as I get the plexi in I'll upload a couple pictures, for a budget friendly option these things are really quite well put together.
