It's toynami who decided to re release the same toy for 10 years. So can't blame us if we compare it to other contemporary releases.

That comparison with KoB really show how skinny the waist is on the KoB, not to mention being too elongated too. As much as I don't like the Toynami Masterpiece engineering build (floppy and all), it does have a good proportion when it comes to the waist area.

Yaeh, looking at them all more or less side by side vas an anime still I can't believe anyone is complaining. The Bandai is worlds better than either the Toynami and the KoB in terms of proportions.

the chrome need alot of polishing, also from this angel the green lions looks like hes wearing a huge collar the KOB is more like a moderns design, maybe those proportions is what making it a rock solid figure

I gave up on anime proportions on some combiners and some robots that don't even combine. Notice how the lions become more streamlined with some parts like the head of the blue and yellow lion getting also bigger when combined. If they follow those proportons when the lions are separated it would look odd. People only see the combined form but forget that the individual lions have their own proportions when they get separated. Also I don't find the face too bad looking at the picture with another angle.

Manually or hand painted. You can tell from a few of the edges. Paint masking from manufacturing looks a little different. Look at the red/silver of the ear on the Blue Lion. That's from manual painting and masking. Also so the chrome in those pictures doesn't look quite right. It's either a quick vacumetal test shot or somebody was way over correcting things in Photoshop causing some strange textures on the chrome.

The KoB does have a very clean look, both the lions and Voltron. Love the way the paws tuck neatly.
For the Soc, I find the chest coat of arms strange, the cross itself has spanner like ends. I don't remember it being that way in any media.

The KoB, while good is not worth the $250 plus that I paid for it. While it has some nice engineering it is also cheaply made. If you ever had to take it apart to fix something on it you'll see how cheap the plastics are. Both rear legs on my green lion became loose after leaving it in the display cabinet in combined mode. I took it apart to fix it and thought all it needed was a coat of nail polish and come to find that both joints are broken. The pegs had broken off and I had to use plastic weld to fuse them back together on both legs. There are other issue I won't go into but the impression I had is that the plastic is really cheap. The screw heads are also super soft and will not last very long with a few disassembles. Although the lion's legs can be better tucked away in Robot mode, in lion mode there is an unsightly hollowness in the front Legs of all the lions.

Damn....sorry to see that. I think most of us have that experience, and it sucks.
Mine is CMs Grendizer. It broke right in half.....tried crazy glueing the metal universal core joint to no effect. Its just supported by weight now.
These kind of material defects are detrimental to smaller companies. Havent seen material defects on Bandai or Takara Tommy. Thier stuff is tough as nail.
Nice collection btw.

sorry to hear & see that man guess yours is one of the first production units, if i recall it right they rushed the production in the middle of it before WEP shut them down thats why some units have alot of problems i disagree with you on the KOB doesn't worth the asking price, it came with ton of accessories and alot of diecast every where and not to mention some new ideas for Voltron along with solid articulation, i understand if you get a figure with ton of QCs you will totally hate and feel it doesn't worth it but thats not the case if you get a QCs free unit mine was one of the first units and almost three years later it still solid, its totally durable i even dropped it on its back couple of times lol and if Bandai didnt release theirs i could go for the improved version

Its a great looking toy. But gotta admit, i never watched the anime and have zero knowledge of it. But as a robot fan, i like how it turned out (the prototype on display that is) and being a combiner its always going to be something special. Hope it does have some heft to it though.
