The Mattel one looks like the toynami, just oversize. Look the waist, the desing, everything

not everything just the waist, the rest is completely different, paint, sculpt and materials
both are awful but between the them, Toynami is light years better

I can understand back in 2004, that the Toynami was a pretty good toy despite the fact that they really didn't understand how die cast worked. It's just a shame that they kept recycling the mold for the next ten years without fixing the glaring issues it had.

I don't know about you guys, but I think an 8" die-cast Voltron that looks similar to the SOC would completely kick ass. I hope Playmates makes a miniature version.

I really like the size of the SOC one right now. It's cool that it is about the same size as the Combiner War combiners. I have the Metal Defender and I feel it's just a tad too small. But since I have that, I would totally buy an 8" die-cast classic Voltron that scaled with the Metal Defender.

Man some of the pictures of the Mattel one really makes it look like a sh*tty toy when it's really quite alright! It's difficult to photograph because it is so huge. Depending on the angle the Mattel Voltron is often pictured in a way such that it's dis-proportioned. Anyway, I think the Mattel one while flawed is better than it's gotten credit for. I like it's sculpt better than the Toynami Masterpiece. Comparison with the SOC

The Mattel one is just and upscale toynami one, with worse folding legs and color, but the chest, the waist, the arms, the legs, even the head and the face are the same? The only difference I see are the wings, this time are proportionated, and with the white color added.

The proportions are entirely different! I'm not sure where to start! Definitely not an unscale toynami. Edit: found a comparison online, not mine: Face is completely different, upper body shape and proportions are very different (Toynami much more angled and to me more derpy), Toynami waist is slimmer, lower body thighs are wider but skinnier in the Toynami, and each lion look different as well.

I don't care what anybody says - the Matty Voltron is awesome. I think it took a lot of flack from chogokin collectors when it released because it was not what anybody had anticipated. The bottom line is that it's HUGE, highly articulated and has polots. Mine has no QC issues and the ratchet joints are still perfect after years of gentle play from my children. It's definitely one of the first things people notice when they see my collection. Here it is with some of my Voltrons. I think it's a standout piece: Here it is with my daughter. My kids LOVE it! I don't think there will ever be another Voltron like this. I'm glad I've got one.

Thank you for sharing my sentiment about Mattel Voltron! Finally someone agrees with me on this! LOL. All Mattel Voltron gets is hate all the time, but it's a really fun figure (that looks NOTHING like the Toynami MP)!

There was honestly something to offputting with the Toynami masterpiece's face sculpt. I wouldn't doubt that Mattel took some cues from the masterpiece while making there's, but the Mattel Voltron's face looks way more appealing.

the Mattel version is not that appealing for me, the face is wrong, the paint looks cheap, and the sculpt is also wrong, but i think they took some design cues from the Toynami version, back in the days Toynami was the voltron to get so why not copy the best, just like playmate took the SOC design
if you guys are happy with it then thats great because its hard to find a figure that truly deliver these days
for me best Voltrons figure ever produced are
SOC KOB Blazing Sword and Toynami the 30th anniversary
the rest are not that good for me

I have the one pictured above, and one that's never been combined. I display that one in lion form. I can honestly say they are my favorite pieces in my collection. The quality level is astonishing and all of the missiles fire like clockwork - even after 35 yeasrs. GoLion/Voltron is POPY/Bandai's top selling Gokin of all time for good reason.

That's where it all began and I consider them works of art. see bro, this why i return to this hobby lol as a kid i wanted a Voltron toy more than i wanted my next breath, but sadly it was very hard to find and i couldn't find it anywhere, years later and when i got the Toynami it was like a dream come true, i showed it to a friend and he told me he had a vintage one and he paid about an insane $135 for it ($135 in the 90s) was that the asking price for it back in the day ? or its just greed from sellers ? so for me i cant relate to this vintage release (its awesome no doubt) but im very happy with the SOC and the KOB

No one got the Toynami Voltron Ultimate EX? I asked my wife to get me that for Xmas since I didnt want to pay for it myself I heard the hips sucks because theyre on balljoints but nothing some future cant fix. I just got one for $299 w/ free shipping from TF Source. It arrived yesterday, but it's gonna stay in the package until my kid opens it on Christmas Morning. There's no way it's worth $400. But for $300 I think it's going to look killer in my Voltron display. I'm gonna put it in the back - between the Matty and the Giant Trendmasters. I wasn't going to get it unless the price dropped drastically; and it has. I'm somewhat of a Voltron completionist, so I didn't want to miss out. It's not a work of art like the SOC. But it is HUGE. And I am drawn to the unique sculpt. I'm definitely looking forward to adding this to the collection a few weeks from now.
