One of the reasons people collect is because of the expected appreciation of an object over time. One of the 1st gokins I bought years back was a new GoDaiKin Dynaman. I paid about $300 for it. I don't plan on selling it, but I do get a kick out of seeing what they list for on eBay now. I love having things that are rare and valuable. That's one of the most appealing aspects of this hobby for me. I'm not an expert on KOs, but I do know that going back to the 80's, the LionBot has been produced more than just about any toy on the planet. There are some rare variants, but generally LionBots are worth less over time because the Die-Cast Metal factory keeps pumping out new supply. This takes the "collectability" factor out of it. Why hold onto something that's worth less year after year? I don't see how a KO GX-71 will be any different. So you buy to resell? Because I buy something I like, and to be honest, living in a third world country I think I choose the wrong hobby then. I mean, for those of you living in a develop country , could be easy for you giving us $300 for a figure, but for me , giving us $260 (preorder prize on wozzymoo) was a big effort. Most of the time, ko are released like a year after the original, meaning people who like to buy the og already have it. So ko comes in handy for people who wants the figure , but are unable to pay the outrageous secondary market prices. I'm good with ko as long you know what you are getting. Just to let u know why people buy ko's there's a example. Mp 36 megatron , us $225 Ko mp 36 megatron (exact same sh1t, with better joints , but logo miscentered, us $80 See why? Another example. Metal build 00 raiser us $750 Ko metal build raiser (better joints, same quality) us $ 120 Not counting the mp car robots, original going for us $70 overall, vs the us $33 of the ko. Even when your economy allow you guys to purchase everything you want, (most of the time you get on a week payment what we get in 2 months salary!) Doesn't mean people over the world can afford to pay these ridiculous prices . Even for voltron us $ 700+ on secondary market with no benefits to bandai. Peace

I will happily buy KO figures. In this instance, I want the SoC because it's the right GoLion for my collection (Icarus might be good enough when the color version is released,) but I missed it at retail, and I'm not paying double. I'm praying for another production run! The WJ might be awesome too. If both are readily available for decent prices, I'd want both. Original good. KO good. It's all good!
AND Shouldn't this be about playing with toys, and reimagining the fantasies we love? I'm psyched that some of my stuff is rare and valuable, but I would be a lot happier if this stuff was a lot cheaper. I wish all of our Robot Bros across the globe could afford all the toys they ever wanted!

To me i live in malaysia and USD300 for voltron is a big money but i gladly buy it because of the quality and my childhood memory (Voltron is popular at my country) and i do buy KO only those that is long sold out and super overprice on the market for it.

Wei Jiang is one of those companies that I wish would stop with the KO's and start producing some original or official stuff. Their quality and design work is top notch. Their KO Transformers have high die cast content and typically do something different from the ones being KO'd. For example they increase the size. They do great work. It would be wonderful to see some official and fully unique figures from them, rather than simply copies of somebody elses designs tweaked and scaled up.

If you ask me what I want from Wei Jiang right now is an up scale of SRC God Sigma to match the hight of SRC Mazinkaiser SKL or a little bit taller with more weapons and of course die cast.

I've got to disagree with you on this. The Icarus Dark Voltron is still readily in stock at LCM and on ebay and the price has been around 289 shipped for months. It's not selling out or going up in value. At least not yet, though it certainly may. Let me show you an example for this! Have you ever see Third Party Dark Voltron from Icarus Toys? Trust me, Its magnificent! Icarus didn't copy their design from Bandai. They based the design from KOB robots. Icarus launch Dark Voltron in small number and paint it black. With only a thousand pieces on the market, this item become rare and expensive. IMO both Voltron and Dark Voltron are on the same level. They both were difficult to find, and expensive.

the thing is guys economy is awful world wide
remember the good old days when we used to get the biggest and baddest gokin for less than $200
in these days $200 is the average price
we all need to skip some releases that we want to get other releases that we need, tough choices i know
well back to topic 2 more days

It has happened in the past and will happen again. U see, Third party robots or KO's is different with Bandai stuff in term of price fluctuation. Many costumer usually unaware about new product from third party manufacturers, so it takes more time to ensure they get same or even better quality than the original one. It become very reasonable why Third Party/KO's retail price increase a little slower than Bandai.

One year ago - I bought this guy from Tokyo - Akihabara Radio Kaikan - got lucky that I was able to grab one 2 days before the release (27th of December got him, 29th was the release) and I have been asking around some shops and people have been saying all sold out everywhere including pre-orders in Japan. I didn't know anything about SOCs but already seen Voltes V before and it was August last year that I took interest of owning a Voltron as I have never owned one before but POs were not sold out that time (majority of JP based online retailers) I was hesitant to pull the trigger for 36K yen cause the SRP is 32K yen and we leave Japan on the 30th - good thing I didn't hesitate and just bought one (didn't imagine that the price would sky rocket like crazy), good times indeed, can't believe it was already a year! I don't usually open up boxes until we got home, but man as soon as we arrived on our apartment, I just opened the damn thing and the first thing that I noticed was the weight, "wow black lion is heavy!" SOC GX71 is my first SOC Sorry for being too sentiment, it was my first SOC and I'm glad it was Voltron!

Man, time flies. What a great release this was / is. Crazy what the aftermarket prices are right now, but still nice to see a figure go up in value. Personally, I could not spend $700 for any figure. Some people do though, as stock continues to dry up.

Missed the boat on getting the SoC early. Managed to find a local seller who offered me a sealed set for 450 USD. Wondering if I should bite the bullet

Expect this to be up to $700 this year as remaining stock runs out. You could also wait for Bandai to re-Release this, but no telling when that will happen, what the price will actually be or even if it will happen. This is Bandai dealing with USA license. I would jump on it if I were you.

Actually us $450 is a excellent price if you consider bbts was selling the last batch at us $350 plus tax and shipping.
I'm considering selling mine in us $550 shipped.
