With the 35th anniversary of Macross coming next year in 2017, I was wondering if Bandai has any plans to reissue any of the vintage 1/55 scale Valkyries.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last set of 1/55 reissues we got from Bandai was from the "Origin of Valkyrie" releases from 2008, right?

Let's hope not. Those are garbage compared to the Yamato 1/48's and 1/60's IMHO.

That's your opinion. The 1/55 has its charms and I'm hoping for a reissue! They are retro and durable and nostalgic!

Exactly, that's why I said in my opinion.
I thought they were pretty cool when they first came out but then the Yamato 1/48's came out and those were amazing.
That being said I still like the Bandai 1/60 offerings. They made a lot of nice stuff for that line.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last set of 1/55 reissues we got from Bandai was from the "Origin of Valkyrie" releases from 2008, right? I don't recall the Origin line offering more than a couple of Valks. I didn't get any b/c I already had the 1/55 Bandai from before. Anyway HMR is doing well right now and the price range has been decent. If 1/55 did make a comeback - how well would it do competing against HMR? Will "new collectors" care for the blockiness of the 1/55 or go towards a more "accurate" scuplt? As much as I love the 1/55 I only want/need a representation of the Ostrich and Elintseeker. I'm already vested in the HMR and I'm hoping that these two Valks will be available in the 1/100 line.

Let's hope not. Those are garbage compared to the Yamato 1/48's and 1/60's IMHO. I wasn't comparing them to Yamato's 1/48 or 1/60's. And on the contrary, I have almost every 1/48 release, so there is no love loss there. But I happen to have a very strong appreciation for vintage toys especially from the 80's. And like locidm stated, they are retro, durable and most importantly nostalgic for me. As much as I love my Yamato 1/48's, they are NOT retro, NOT as durable NOR nostalgic from the 80's. "Garbage" is a harsh term. That's like comparing Masterpiece Transformers to original G1 Transformers and calling the older stuff garbage. I hate it when people have extreme absolute do-or-die fanfare for only one brand. lol

I love my 1/60 v2s as well, and have most of them. It doesn't take away my fondness of the 1/55s though. Thanks Mr. Clean for articulating what I was trying to say.

I think the 1/55 Takatoku Valks are one of the greatest engineered toys ever...there is just such satisfaction and joy in transforming the toys. They were just so well-made and you could transform them forever without ever fear of breaking the toys...that is something you can't ever say about the Yammys (which I also bought up to the point they went belly-up)...
And +1 to mrclean's comments...apples and oranges to compare with today's toys which places a premium on poseability and "look" versus I suppose -- that "soul" the toys had -- that us kids of the 80s grew up with...Most of my newer toys I need to read the manual like some technical case study before I even attempt. The toys of yesterday, intuitive to play and transform.

Let me preface this by saying I hadn't starting drinking for the long weekend yet before I made my initial comment but...
It wasn't until someone mentioned Ostrich and Elintseeker that I thought "Wait a minute, did they make an Ostrich and Elintseeker"?
At first I was thinking the post was about the 1/55 Robotech Masterpiece Collection line. Now this may not make a difference to some of you, and that's fine, but that line was, in my opinion, garbage.
I think it was because I was looking at the for sale section before coming to this thread, saw the Voltron in the similar book style case that the Masterpiece line came in, and had that stuck in my head.

I have one of the 1/55 VF-1J reissue wearing my Takatoku GBP-1S armor. While chunky as hell, its still a very special piece in my collection. I don't have much high end toys back in the days, but the GBP-1S armor was one of the few treasures I had as a kid, bought it with my extra lunch money I saved for months. Took me some serious cash to repurchase a sample back more than a decade ago when I got out of college. By the same token, I can see some of the rare sets can still be popular among collectors as reissues, as they were never re-released previously.

I'm so glad to hear about love for 1/55 chunky monkey! There is a reason they go for high dollar in the used market still.

If they re-issued the chunky monkey 1/55's I'd totally support it! Pure nostalgia for me! Macross and Voltron/Golion is what got me into anime back when I was a kid in the 80's and the 1/55's have always held a special place in my heart. They were definitley ahead of it's time.

Lol if you are talking about the toynami masterpiece Valkyries then garbage would be the appropriate word!! As you can see calling the chunky monkey 1/55 bandai/takatoku valks garbage would have quite a few people upset! I'm glad we cleared that up.

I've got a vintage, mint VF-1S and I've only ever displayed it in bot mode. Tried to transform it once, but the tail fins (one of them) didn't want to cooperate, so I let it be. Would therefore love a chance to buy a new reissue. Hope it happens...

I have the Bandai reissue VF-1S Super Valkyrie. Even though I prefer the Yamato/Arcadia 1/60 V2, the 1/55 chunky monkeys will always have a special place in my heart. I remember being so amazed at how the toy can transform into all three modes back in the day.

My life would be complete if they released a Super Ostrich and Elintseeker...cuz, goodness knows, I just can't justify the prices on eBay for the vintages.

The vintage VF-1S was so mythical to me as a child. I never saw one in person or in any local toy import toy stores in Los Angeles either. I did know of some fellow classmates in elementary school who supposedly owned one, but for one reason or another, I never got to see it in person. I got the Bandai reissue of VF-1S and Super Strike VF-1S just last year. It was such a joy to finally have one in my hands and to see with my own eyes in person. I prefer Fokker's gray VF-1S versus the bright white Super Strike VF-1S. These toys are so well made that they are timeless. I would faint if we could ever get an Elintseeker or Super Ostrich reissues. I also wish they could somehow reissue the vintage Takatoku Destroid Conversion kit. Had one as a kid, but foolishly traded it away.
