Hello Tex!
Once again, you have supplied an indispensable link. Everybody, check this guy’s website. It has some beautifully undertaken photo stories, all done with GI Joes! This is the kind of thing I’m hoping to do with my digital camera and Cyborgs soon, only mine will never be as slick, as I don’t intend to devote the kind of painstaking attention to detail and laborious time that this gentleman has obviously put in. Also, my stuff will be much weirder.
This website also has the old GI Joe comic strip ads from the 70s. I was reminiscing about these on a thread recently: “Stranger, You went through that mountain like a bullet!” “You even look like a human bullet!” “That’s why I’m known as Bulletman, the Human Bullet!”
Do you think they were trying to get the message through to us thick kids that Bulletman was, like, a human bullet?
It’s interesting to see that Atomic Man looks nothing like the weird guy with the afro that we all went out and bought. Either the strip was drawn before the toy was ready, or, more likely, the artist decided he looked stupid and drew what he should look like.
And the Intruders! My brother collected Marvel comics, and so we saw these strips long before the toys came out here in England. My dad went on a business trip to the States and I asked for an Intruder, purely on the strength of this strip. What a disappointing, undersized, under-articulated piece of plastic crud! The Evel Knievel strips made the product look much better than it actually was, too.
Happy memories of misleading toy promotions from childhood!

Wotcher Tex! Transparent action figures, eh? Hmmm……… Maskatron doesn’t really count as he was opaque grey with just those “circuit” things, which were transparent plastic but painted on the back. But the spare arms and legs for the Steve Austin figure were full-on transparent. Atomic Man was obviously inspired by Henshin Cyborg as much as Steve Austin. Pre-dating HC, the Visible Man, Woman, Horse and I’m told they did a dog too. Can anyone confirm this? Were there any others? These were model kits, not action figures, but I always maintain that they influenced the design of King Walder. In the Adventure People series by Fisher Price they did male and female robots which were transparent green and owed something to Time Traveller. I’ve got one of these if you want to see it, but it’s nothing special. The Tron figures, recently reissued. Not dissimilar to the Adventure People robots. I’m not sure which came first. Star Wars style articulation on both the Tron and Adventure People figures, ie goose-stepping, heil-Hitlering chunky plastic figures that will survive a chewing by the family dog but don’t pose for toffee. Stretch X-ray. Have you ever seen this one? I had Stretch Armstrong and Monster when I was a kid, but I didn’t see this one ‘til years later. He looks pretty good from the photo on the box; he has a weird alien head with a big brain and a sort of beak if I remember correctly. In fact he resembles the psychic octopus from Alan Moore’s Watchmen. And he has lovely guts inside. I don’t know how they did this and made him stretchable. But the Stretch figures don’t stand up; they’re un-displayable, so I wouldn’t buy one. Recently on Yahoo Japan there was a little green figure which was clearly a knock-off of the original Barefoot Microman. I’ve got the pictures on my hard drive at home; I’ll bring one in and post it if you didn’t see this. GI Joe is jumping on the bandwagon a little late with a transparent figure. At least one of the companies that do 12” collector figures did transparent versions recently. I got a bulletin from Fantasiatoyz a year or two back about a male and female transparent figure set, but I can’t remember the make, and they were beyond my price range at the time. Those 12” collector figures are a whole other world of collecting and I’m not really in on it, but I’m sure someone who reads this will be. Also out of my league are Kubricks, but I saw a transparent one of these recently. I think it was a bear and it had its innards painted on the front. It looked pretty good for a Kubrick. There were also those Medicom Cocobat 12 inchers. Highly articulated, I seem to remember. And pretty scarce too.
There's those Takara SCF Kubrick-like Cyborgs as well.

here I am, super busy at work, bit I see this message string and get all excited (not in a Muton 3 headed sort of way!). Anyway, Tex - thanks for that link - I bought it now! Yeeoow - $12 for a cool clear Joe. I don't collect Joe's but this guy plus accessories is way cool! Also, the clear kubrick you mentioned is acually a TOY2R Qee Series 4, chase figure called Visible Dog, with his innards on the outside...yuummm! Here are some more recent figures: As well as Cocobat, Cocobat Joe Repro and Skullhead Joe, there is Cocoboy, Cococroc and Cocoboy base zero version. I have the last four, and they totally rock. Do a web search on medicom and pushead (the designer) to see them. Medicoms RAH220 series also used a transparent base body on one of the series, it's the shocker guy with a white cape and a shield, around number 28 or 29. The body reminds me of Android - black clear plastic. Also from Medicom, and design team Cro-mags and PassGuard, comes the villains of Cocobat Joe, Rumina Borg and MachRoid. MachRoid packaging actually totally steals fomr the UK Muton box, down to the same graphic and box design!!!! What a homage. Mach Roid is a clear deep read. Rumina is clear deep blue. Medicom also homaged all the above figures in their bearbrick series, with three version of Cocobat Joe and SH Joe in the new series 8....all clear. Also, have you seen Fishman and Cyclovillain from Medicom? More in the above series, but under the RetroAction banner. Fishman is basically a copy of the Henshin fish guy/Uk Amaluk, and Cyclovillain is Dukuro King with cyclops head and cloved feet, plus a pink jump suit - awesome disco monster!!!! they also did a devilman retro action which looks exactly like the HC devilman. Also, TWIM's clear series of henshin style suits for 12" figures springs to mind. Fewture also did the Devilman series in some nice transparent versions, but they aren't very articulated, but look great...and so did Marmit come to think of it. Anyone have any pics of the new Henshin Devilman repro?

Mutonis, I’m so glad you posted this post! Some time ago I was told about a skull-headed Muton figure. This was before I even new Muton’s Japanese name. This was about the same time that I learned about the Neo Henshin Cyborg, so I assumed it was part of the same line. I had a contact who visited Japan regularly and, on the strength of a black and white photocopy of a Neo figure that you could hardly make out, I asked him to acquire some. What I got was a nice Neo and two of those cruddy vinyls, the Skeleton King and Invader Z. Fortunately I was able to sell the vinyls on at cost. The guy who told me about the skull Muton insisted that this wasn’t what he had seen, and he mentioned that he thought it was called Skull Headed Joe.
I got a bulletin about the Micro Batta figures when they first came out, but I had no idea they were related. More recently I saved some pictures of Skull Joe with the croc costume from Yahoo Japan. I didn’t know what he was called, and when I ran the text for the item through the babelfish translator, it said “Alligator Mysterious Person”, which wasn’t much help. Thanks to your post, I now know what the figures are called and can run searches for them, save pictures and dream about another toy line that I’ll never be able to obtain.
Are they good? How do the bodies compare to HCs, Neos and 99s? Is there any machinery or guts inside, or are they just transparent? Are you prepared to divulge what you paid? Is YJ my only chance to find them? I’m looking for good close up pictures of their heads.

Hey Hipster! Glad my info was of use to someone!
The Cocobat Joe series of figures were apparently super limited - like 500 of each - and in the last five years on ebay I've seen one Cocobat Joe and two SkullHeads come up. I bought the last one I saw for $200, BuyItNow, one came up a couple of weeks ago and they wanted $315 BIN. In Japan they are expensive too.....I thing Toyshop Rough had them on their site. I don't kn ow abouy YJ, as my only link is to Henshin cyborgs. As far as internals, they are basically clear versions of the standard Medicom bodies, which are licensed from Takara, and a GI Joe shape - altho, they have cut outs at the calves. The Mach Roid had the newer RAH300 body (RAH=Real Action Hero), and mine snapped a leg off 10 minutes out of the box when I tried to switch outfits on him.....arrrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!.... Cocobat Joe is based on a character that Take-sh*t (really), bass player of thrash band Cocobat designed alongside Pushead for one of the bands CD's. the Microbatta are microaman size versions, as you know. Pushead`does , and has done, lots of Metallica sleeves. Medicom's website has all figures displayed - all teh one I've mentioned here. Unfortuneately, since they converted it to Flash, its harder for non-Japanese speakers to navigate.
By the way, the 8 inch RAH220 (22cm) Cocoboy and Cococroc are better (in my opinion) than the larger harder to get figures. toytokyo.com has them for $150 each.....altho they are less on YJ.
CCJ is totally based on Henshin Cyborgs, another homage. In fact Medicom RAH series is to a large extent based on HC as well.
So far I have about 50-60 RAH 12" figures....and a a large credit card debt.
By the way, I'm up to 29 wins on YJ. I now have two of the Alien Invaders - YAY - and all versions of Android, a green Walder, and the cyborg riders set....none of which I have yet....but they're paid for and coming soon I hope.
Keep on rockin the Henshins!

Hi Mutonis,
Thanks for all the info. I’ve done quite a bit of searching and I’ve got quite a few pics now – the skull guy looks great. And those glasses, I take it they aren’t removable.
I’m not sure about this heavy metal angle; when I get these toys I’ll educate them to enjoy Prokofiev and Throbbing Gristle.
Mach Roid and Rumina Borg – I’ve got one picture of them undressed but you can’t really make out the heads. Are they unique head designs, or Coco or Skull heads? The blue and red colours look lovely. What about Cyclovillain and Sharkman? Colours? Heads?
The “alligator mysterious person” ie Cococroc that I saw on YJ was under the Cyborg search, and I see a lot of other Medicom stuff there too, but I suppose they only appear if “Cyborg” is mentioned in the description. The Cococroc was broken at the hip, so it appears they break easily. If I ever get one, I’m warned.
What is Cocoboy base zero version? And what is TWIM?
I still haven’t got bidding on YJ, so I’m jealous. I saw some beautiful condition Invaders last week. I’ll be checking toytokyo.

Hey Hipster, Man, I am bidding on those MIB Alien Invaders - they are sweet, but were at 22,000 yen each when I looked last night.
Anyway, onto your questions:
MachRoid and Rumina Borg have Japanese humanoid faetured clear heads, both with tin-tin esque comb forward haircuts. I think they are based on Shooto competitors ....Shooto is a Japanese wrestlng/martial arts sport I guess. They come with a little pair of sexy shorts and for the ring. They also look good in their Torg-style wolf and bear outfits
The coco glasses are a trademark of Take (next word rhymes with HIT, but was cencored as Nuts last post), who wears these style glasses. They are not removeable.
The base zero version has clear costuming unlike the regular edition.
TWIM is a cool Japnese designer toy company. Stands for The World Is Mine. A lot of their designs are very Henshin Cyborg influenced.
Fishboy and Cyclo are not clear, they have regular asian featured dudes under the outfits.
Where are you in the UK by the way? and....any ideas where to locate a CyboInvader?
Bye for now!

Tally Ho, Mutonis!
Apologies, but I must bleed you dry for all information regarding these toys. I have worked out a list; would you be so kind as to check and correct it?
Cocobat Joe - 12”, ltd. 500, transparent clear, grasshopper suit Skullhead Joe - 12”, ltd. 500, transparent smoked black/grey, grasshopper suit Cocobat Joe Repro - same as Cocobat Joe but more pieces made, presumably? Cocoboy – 8”, transparent clear, crocodile suit. Glasses? Cococroc – 8”, skull head, transparent smoked black/grey, crocodile suit Cocoboy base 2x0 – same as Cocoboy but transparent crocodile suit? Rumina Borg – 8”?, transparent red, shooto head, wolf suit? Mach Roid – 8”?, transparent blue, shooto head, bear suit? Sharkman - 8”?, opaque, asian head, shark/Amaluk suit Cyclovillain – 8”?, opaque, asian head, cyclops/Torg suit
Have I missed any? I can’t remember which out of Rumina and Mach has the wolf suit and which has the bear. It’s of little consequence to me as I would display these figures without suits, to see their transparent bodies. For this reason I’m not interested in Sharkman and Cyclo, only transparent figures.
I checked out Toytokyo and Toyshop Rough; thanks for the leads. Toyshop Rough has a set called “Cocoboy vs Skullbonz” for 17,000 yen. This appears to be Cocoboy and Cococroc sold together. They also have something called “Rumina Sato Fila Version” but this appears to be some opaque character figure. Is Rumina some famous character?
Toytokyo has “Cocoboy Gold” and “Cocoboy Grey” at $199 each. These appear to be Cocoboy and Cococroc, respectively. Quite a price difference, if I’m right.
So, my priorities are Cocoboy vs Skullbonz, Rumina Borg and mach Roid from Toyshop Rough. I just need lots of money before they sell out.
Oym in the west country, ooooaaaahr! Not far from Bath and Swindon in the beautiful English countryside.
The last Cybo-Invader I saw was £500, with Cyborg, from Mister Star Wars Stevenson at Memorabilia. He has sold it now, to Jonathan Ross, he claims. I’m not aware of one currently on sale but I’ll let you know if I see one.
Good luck bidding on those Invaders. I’d go to 30,000 yen if I was a rich fellow. Invader J would be my priority with the whacky insect head. I thought you already had two of them. If you’re buying them again to have them mint, would you be selling on the old ones? Pardon my cheek for asking.
Thanks for your invaluable help.

Top of the morning! It’s me again!
I’ve spent too much time on the internet today. I was going to do some work, honest, guv! Anyway, I downloaded Flash so I could look at the Medicom site. It’s a bit disappointing; I was hoping for close-ups of the inner, transparent heads. I’ve found the answers to some of my questions, though.
It appears that I’ve been getting Skullbonz and Cococroc mixed up. Cococroc is an all-vinyl, crouching croc. Skullbonz is the mutonesque figure I want. Was Skullbonz only sold as the “vs” double set with Cocoboy? Have Toytokyo split this set for individual sale to make more money? I want the double set anyway.
It also appears that Rumina Borg and Mach Roid are 12” figures. Rumina is the bear and Roid is the wolf.
Rumina Borg costs more on his own than the “vs” double set! Is he rarer? Released earlier?

OK, here we go!

TEXT Was Skullbonz only sold as the “vs” double set with Cocoboy? TEXT Have Toytokyo split this set for individual sale to make more money? I want the double set anyway. Out of interest, I'm planning on putting up an extra NRFB base xero version on ebay sometime soon.
It also appears that Rumina Borg and Mach Roid are 12” figures. They certainly are! Rumina is the bear and Roid is the wolf. I really prefer Rumina, he has the old body style, whereas machroid has the inferior new one. Rumina has a nicer head sculpt too. Rumina does seem popular, even on YJ he starts at 15,000 yen.
Rumina Borg costs more on his own than the “vs” double set! Is he rarer? Released earlier? Rumina came out first.
I didn't get the MIB alien invaders - I bid 25,000 and the one I was after went for 26,000. Yeah, I was trying to get better versions. The one I have, hasn't arrived yet. I paid $186 for him, plus shipping to the US, so the minty boxed version was probably a better buy.
I go to a collectors fair near LA, sometimes, and a Japanese guy has both MR and RB for (I think) $145 each. I've bought a lot off him, and he has given me good discounts....so maybe I can see what he can do next time I go?
Bye.

I like it better than the original cocobat joe!
You lucky dog Muton!

I would be buying those colored borg if I was there!

Hey Texster, I'd be happy to get a RB or MR next time I go (it's a 60 mile roundtrip) for you or the Hipster. The guy only has one of each, or did last time.
As I mentioned earlier, I plan to post CocoBoy Base Xero version on ebay. His outfit/croc-armor is a mixture of silver and clear, and really is totally ruling!
One of the items I got from Celga was a cybo-jaguar in robo doberman mode. I cannot believe the amzaing intense color of the blue armor, and how new it looks. Do you have one?
I can't wait to get my cyborg rider set.
Bye.

Hello gents, I’ve ordered the “Cocoboy vs Skullbonz” set from Toyshop Rough. I’m very excited about finally owning the skull-headed Muton that I heard about so long ago, or at least a version of him. It was the last set they had, so I’m glad I did it. Thanks, Mutonis, for making it possible. It’s a good job my wife is so good about my robot spending. It’s my only vice, well, the only one that costs money. Thanks for the info, Tex. I’ve done quite a few searches and I have a handful of pics of these figures. I keep looking at them, zooming in until they become too pixillated to make out. I would like Rumina and Roid too, but the skull figure set was the big priority, and probably the rarest, so best to buy first. I’d like the Microbattas too, but there are so many things I want, waaah! I’ll give the brick figures a miss, though. At the risk of adding to the list, what’s this RAH220 transparent base body shocker guy with a white cape and a shield, around number 28 or 29, Mutonis? And Tex, forgive me for being so uncultured, but what is the difference between Metal and Hardcore? Hyp O’Crit

Hi Tex, I got a call from the missus earlier (I’m at work) and my parcel has arrived but the postman wanted a further £24 customs charge! Ouch! The set already cost £100 with post. Double these numbers for approximate $ value. She was not pleased; it’s our family holiday next week. Good job she loves me. I’m looking forward to getting home and seeing them, though, and I’ll get some pictures taken, maybe tonight if I find time. I’ve already heard about these things breaking, so minimum handling would appear to be essential. I haven’t heard of knee bighters. Is this kids, as in they bite your knees? My daughter bit me on the chest once. There is an Australian expression that has always foxed me: “sparrow’s f**t”, which apparently means “very early in the morning”. Perhaps some Aussie robot fan can illuminate us why. I don’t really follow sport, but I thought our greatest Cricket adversary was India. Watch this space for Cocoboy vs Skullbonz pics, Hypno
