They also informed me the BANDAI SOC LICENSE Has expired. Oh snap! Hold on to your voltrons! So no reissue of Soc anytime soon? Gotta consider the source here...

Ok. I did not email Icarus. I've been communicating w them via FB messenger. They've been responsive and transparent. They read these forums for fan feedback and saw the guys questioning their license. I recieved a message asking me to please clarify the licensing question. I don't work for them and the information I've been given was completely unsolicited. Since these forums are limited I invite you all to join the HALL OF CHOGOKIN Facebook page where I've posted screen shots and copies of our conversation.
Why do I care? Why am I on Team Icarus? Because this is one of the most impressive Voltron products I've ever owned and they have put a lot of effort into making sure this product is legit. Wouldn't it be great if WEP recognized their efforts and stopped giving licenses to crap companies like playmates?

Here's my correspondence with WEP:
"Is the ICARUS Dark Voltron an officially licensed product?
I love Voltron and so does my son!
Thank you,
Cole English"
Here's their response:
And there you have it....

This Voltron is licensed by WEP and believe it or not Dreamworks HK. It was a limited event license. Icarus sent pics of the event sent me an explanation. This is not an illegal or unlicensed voltron. You can all purchase in confidence. No, no it's not. That's not how it works. The Mad Toys guy had 1 single e-mail exchange with a Dreamworks low level marketing drone wherein he sent a picture of the robot and she basically said "That's nice, sure apply for a license and we'll look at it". But what Dreamworks can license as a sublicensor is very very different. It is extremely specific to the Netflix show. Also if Dreamworks was involved the Trademarkings on the box would be different. They would look like the ones on the Playmates toys look. Oh and Playmates has the exclusive license for the Dreamworks stuff. Also Dreamworks as the sub cannot issue a license that is in conflict with WEP issued ones. Which were held by Mattel, Bandai and Toynami throughout. These are all well known facts. This is how these things actually work. Yes Icarus is lying. It's what they do. It's what they have done steadily throughout this. It's nice that he answered you. It doesn't mean that he is not lying. (Oh and before you dig out the strawman of "well WEP could be wrong or lying" no in this set of circumstances they cannot. They are the Trademark holder. They are who determines what is and is not their authorized product. Whatever they say in this regard carries the indisputable presumption of truth. If Icarus wants to claim they are lying he better produce the signed contracts.) If you go back through MadToys facebook posts you will find where he outright said he had to sell out because it was completely impossible for him to get the license ever. Everything that Icarus has told you is a lie, for the same reason it has been going all the way back to the first page of this thread. It Doesn't Work That Way. They would never be granted a "Limited Event License" because the license was already held by others. And more than anything else why on earth would you believe the fool from Icarus with regard to the status of Bandai's deals with WEP?

So to sum up:
KOB is a good product adored by many Voltron fans
Icarus claims it's licensed.
WEP, the sole license grantor, says it's not as confirmed by at least four sources.
I deduced that KOB was not, is not, and likely will not ever be a licensed product.
Therefore, Icarus lied and still lies to their customers.
Some fans don't mind and love it anyways.
Let's move on! Have a good one guys.

Have a good one guys. Concise and accurate. I love the KoB v2 (not the v1 though, small head, no wrist swivel), and as a gokin, it IS impressive. That being said, lying about licensing is unethical. As a customer, while we want the best Voltrons out there, we must be careful not to morally support companies that misuse/lie about the licensing they have. The license holder is the legitimate property owner, and we must respect that.

I got it the black one. Love it! It’s my favorite version of Voltron right now. I will be getting the regular color version as well. After the Playmates classic version I’m gonna have to chill for a while. Until Dairugger gets a worthy release.

maybe its just me...but I've never thought this product to ever be licensed. Its a 3rd party item, developed in china (or wherever). they can put whatever stickers, trademarks, logos they want on it. Its not going to change my mind on getting it one way or another. If i like it, I buy it. Given the history around the original King of Beast, i'm surprised anyone actually thought this one was licensed. and within the robot toy industry and so many independent parties making stuff, its no surprise and common place to have KO's. personally I could care less its not endorsed or licensed by WEP.

actually both MT and WEP were talking about licensing it, after the huge success of the v1 KOB
but nothing happened, IT says they got a licenses, WEP says they dont
