Welcome!
Those stores are the best. Anime Export to a lesser degree but YMMV...
Also you can resurrect or create a 5 recommended SOCs and 5 regrettable SOC purchases. I think that would also be a great topic for our newly minted collectors.

Relatively New collector here as well and had feeling GX-71 would bring more collectors Into SoC line. It's amazing line and I've already went through that crazy obsessed Phase myself and I'm caught up. I actually got some good pieces from local collectors, craiglist then eBay. If you seen somebody snagging good old items on eBay as they are listed it's probably me. Hahaha
Pretty much any of big GXs are good ones. I talked to couple veteran collectors And they steered me right way so I wouldn't buy bad ones. Watch and read lot of reviews. Yamato Danguard Ace, CM Goshogun, Konami Gurren Lagaan and Metallic Gordian are couple non SoC standouts That I scored recently that I really like. Good luck!
Oh yah don't forget the for sale section forum too.

Thanks all for the suggestions! Updated my original post.
Daizyujin is preordered. After that, I'm trying to decide between God Sigma, God Mars and Daioja. Would be all about Daimos too if I could find one for under a billion dollars!

Not just limited to SoCs, but anyone know a place besides nippon-yasan that takes Tamashii web exclusive preorders?
I know BBTS probably gets them eventually, but I mean more in the terms of middleman services that are actually located in Japan.

I have purchased some older SOCs from Amazon.com in the past with good results. If you are in North America and a Prime member, you get free shipping and somewhat of a peace of mind when ordering, since you can return for a full refund if there are any problems. Make sure the seller has good feedback.

Edit: Whoops, I was going by Amazon price where it's going for $1,000.00. I see it around $300 on used/damaged Japanese sites.

A suggestion maybe is to sort those website by country. US, Japan China. It can help decide where to order.

Is anime-export and good site to order from? Do they charge up front for preorders or wait till the item ships like bbts?

Yes, anime-export charge up front for all pre-orders. They also keep your paid items in their warehouse until you give them order to ship, so you can save on shipping by combining shipment.
I've used anime-export for 9 years. I never had any problems with newly released products from them. With used/ items though, I've had problems on almost every single one of them. Bought a Yamato YF-19, came with a cracked body, AE provided a full refund including shipping, and let me keep it too. With SOC Gunbuster (probably 9 years ago!), I purchased what they listed as sealed but it came used, and AE provided 50% refund. Other smaller problems I didn't bother contacting them and was able to fix myself. I've read stories about how their customer service declined over the years, but I haven't had to contact them with any problems for a few years now so I can't speak for it. For the record, I still order from AE regularly to this day, and they've been pretty good to me.
Bottom line, AE is fine for purchasing newly released products, but if you're worried about customer service, don't buy the "special product" from them, which usually are the used ones or ones they bought from private sellers at low cost.
To be honest, other than HLJ, no other Japan stores would give you any support should you buy a newly released product and have a problem with it. THerefore, even "if" customer service at AE really has declined over the years, it's really not all that different from everyone else (except for HLJ). HLJ is my first choice when ordering from Japan.
Lastly, I don't recall if AE ships item promptly or not. Other members may fill in. I always ship SAL small packet if available, and don't pay attention to tracking unless it's really taking a long time, which hasn't happened with AE.

im dealing with AE since 2010 and i didn't have any huge problems with them, 1 problem was damage box because of poor wrapping during shipping, last thing i bought from AE was Fewture Mazinger z Repaint, and i contacted them about the shipping address because on the order page it didnt show the full address
they replied kinda quickly and they fix it, so i guess they are working on their customers services

Agree with everyone here.
Do not expect ANY kind of customer service if somethings wrong with a new item. Used item i also had problem.....ordered used saint seiya and it stunk of cigarettes and stale cooking....had to wipe and air it out few days.
They do have a great price and they carry nice exclusives at a nice price. Their save warehouse ship system is great too.
But i dont order from them anymore....i go to Amazon (only for those who dont care oabout boxes) and AmiAmi.
