Really bummed that so many of the Mecha in the book do not seem to be appearing Haven't read the book. What Mecha are in the book? Too many to list. Have read 5 times. But highlights are Voltron, Leopoldan (main hero mecha), Raideen, Macross Mecha, Mecha Godzilla and a ton more.

Here is another awesome fan image and represents a lot of the things in the book. Sadly many appear to be missing from the movie

Hope its a surprise present for everyone when Ultraman, Reideen, Mecha Godzilla and Lepardon show up. That would be a real treat! I sure would want RP1 inspired SOC Leopardon!!
If approached, I cant imagine the license holders saying no to Spielberg for a chance to make SERIOUS money as a cross promotion.
Can you imagine? "no, we dont want our property used in major blockbuster holywood movie directed by non other then Steven Spielburgh..., because you know, that would expose our property to even more wider world market...and that would mean success...no, i dont think i want that." WEP would really say no?

Well, I am pretty sure Iron Giant is replacing Leopardon

Saw the movie today. There aren't many mechas in it. But a piece of pop culture it is really amazing. There wasn't one scene that I couldn't find references to things I love. Is a very straightforward movie, not in the bad way, and really fun.

I saw it on Wednesday night. I was very sad. I felt it was poorly paced and completely lacked the soul of the novel.

Well, the movie does need to cater to the masses. And that includes mainstream movie icons seen in the U.S. and not the popular Japanese robots which we have a passion for.
I haven't seen it, and will likely enjoy it, as I haven't read the book.
