hmmm i need info about this photo
why Dairugger is Voltron I, Albegas is Voltron II, and Golion is Voltron III ?
according to the wiki
Golion was aired first (March 4, 1981)
Dairugger was aired second (3 March 1982) Albegas was the 3rd one (March 30, 1983)
so the numbers are way off
its just wired for me because technically and originally those 3 are not related by any means, however they going united under the name of Voltron
all are under Toei Animation, both of Dairugger and Albegas are from the same director and thats about it
Because of how US afterschool syndication worked and the number of episodes required to sell a show for daily afterschool rotation some of the importers took several Japanese shows and more or less re-edited them to merge them into a single show. The best known example of this is how Harmony Gold (/shudder) took Macross, Super Dimension Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada and recut them into a basically a single three part Space Epic known as Robotech. In 1984 WEP, World Events Productions, a St Louis TV station licensed Beast King GoLion, Dairuger XV and Albegas with the similar intent of making Voltron, having three robots. Voltron I, II and III, each telling a different story in a single series to run up the episode count. Originally Dairuger was Voltron I, the Voltron of Near Earth space, Albegas was to be Voltron II of Middle Space and GoLion was Voltron III. So when they licensed the toys from Bandai for Distribution by Matchbox they put all three into production. However for some reason they aired the GoLion series forst. The kids went NUTS for it. But when it switched to Dairuger the kids revolted. So instead of going to Albegas WEP instead commissioned Toei to make them another season of GoLion. (Which really confused the hell out of the Toei people as to them most of the characters were dead!). But that forst Christmas all three robots were available in US toy stores as Voltron I, II and III. By the following year Albegas toys were gone and they were simply Lion Voltron and Vehicle Voltron. Albegas never actually aired. (the poor kids that got him for Christmas.) So weirdly there are substantially more episodes of the American Lion Voltron then there are of Beast King GoLion. To add to the confusion of that picture, both GoLion and Albegas (Voltron I and III) were also sold as individual component robots, in addition to being the big combiner set. The Matchbox Voltron's also suck a bit compared to the Popy/Bandai Japanese versions. The year before a few kids had choked and died from shooting spring fire missiles from Battlestar Galactica toys down their throats. As a result sudden new Toy Safety Rules came into play and the robots were stripped of all their firing missiles and anything sharp. GoLion even had the cats teeth safety blunted. Even more hilarious to all of this. WEP got GoLion by mistake. In what has to be the most weirdly karmic late night international language barrier screw up. WEP had wanted Daltaneous to be Voltron III. But this was back in the 80's. When these things were delivered on tape, and took weeks to ship. So in a final late night call while packing the boxes the Toei late night intern or janitor doing the shipping called to confirm in bad pidgeon English "Which one do you want" to which WEP replied "The one with the Lion!". And following instructions the clueless shipping intern threw GoLion in the box. When it arrived WEP was in a panic. They didn't have enough time to get the correct one before it aired. So they watched GoLion...

Beautiful pics. Miracle produced just that a miracle when they released their figure almost ten years ago (how time flys) with all the controversy surrounding it. This will be the definitive VV/Dairugger we were hoping for back then and not a place holder for us to keep dreaming of this.

BTW... I think I have a problem... I'm looking at my wish list to Bandai... and it's getting real empty looking. And really really obscure. With this they have produced almost every single thing that used to top my wish list.
Now what?

Interesting. They went with the big front bumper on the feet trucks. (A bit TOO large, IMO, but I like it anyway.) I don't see anything between it and the front wheel – you get a slightly better view of it on the video. Maybe it's retractable so it won't be so prominent in robot form (and maybe serve as a wheel lock).

Ya that over sized bumper is not sexy. Not sure what’s going on there

Remember tho this is a prototype and things will change.... The paint is crappy and pretty sure rushed for this fair... they have to present this bad boy in this fair to put the other shops down.... pretty sure things will change for good and the will deliver a fantastic robot

is odd that i wanted the defender of the universe Voltron more than this "Defender of the Universe" is the 80s Voltron. I thought you already had that one. Do you mean "Legendary Defender"? (2016 DreamWorks Voltron)

I need an arbegas since it's my favorite mecha. But I couldn't make up my mind between ET and AT... now I think I should wait for bandai knowing it may never happen (although it is in the voltron universe it was never aired). The thing is I wont be able to sell it once I get one... Legendary defender from DreamWorks would be great but I don't know how popular in Japan is... I have the metal defender version, it was the best i could get...

The show may not be big in Japan, but it's MASSIVE in the US. American demand had a big role in the GX-71's popularity. VLD would also expand the SoC or MB market in the States. Pacific Rim wasn't well received in Japan, but Gipsy Danger sold well. I even bought all of the Robot Spirits figures in retail shops. There must be some kind of agreement between Bandai and DreamWorks, because the Legendary Defender logo is on the Super Minipla box. So, let's hope....

They gave sh*t more chance to way WAY more obscure license and characters..
