Bandai keep releasing new ones in this line because they keep building 1:1 statue wherever they can. This Freedom I believe is in Shanghai.

I didn't take the time to compare, but wondering if it is same sculpt as the MB Freedom 2.0 with new tampo markings.

It was also announced that mobile suits for the new TV series The Witch From Mercury would be getting entries in the Chogokin series. Also the pics of the Chogokin Freedom look pretty different from either version of the Metal Build Freedom, so I think it may be an all new sculpt. I wonder if they'll do a Unicorn also.

In general, what distinguishes the Chogokin line from Metal Builds? Are the Chogokins supposed to have more die-cast? Are they about the same size as their Metal Build counterparts?

They are 1/100 so they scale with GFFMCs and metal builds (they are about the same size). In terms of die cast content, I don't own any so I cant confirm that..

Though you can say Metal Build are sometimes not true 1/100. Like the F91s, which supposedly are very small like this photo comparison, but the Metal Build F91 is on par, if not a bit bigger than the RX-78. But they at least scale well enough as a collection.

In general, what distinguishes the Chogokin line from Metal Builds? Are the Chogokins supposed to have more die-cast? Are they about the same size as their Metal Build counterparts? They're pretty much the same as a GFFMC or MB figure, they just aren't "optimized" by a specific designer like the other lines. GFFMCs are designed by Hajime Katoki only and MB designs are based on slight redesigns either by the original mecha designer or a special guest designer. Since these Chogokin series designs are based on pre-existing statues rather than a specific designer's vision, they were put in their own category... is what I'm thinking. It's pretty frustrating to have 3 separate lines of 1//100 gokin Gundams running at the same time, and it seems like the new series Witch From Mercury is going to have chogokin Gundams right out the gate too.

What I heard from a buddy in Japan, CHOGOKIN (超合金) is one of Bandai's most globally recognized brands, and because these Metal Build style figures are sold at tourist sites, Bandai used the CHOGOKIN brand instead because it's more appealing from a marketing standpoint. No one usually has to ask what is a CHOGOKIN. The Kanji explains it all, literally "super diecast". Most Asian tourists will see that 超合金 logo and understand this is a diecast toy.

Thats makes total sense. It is in fact one of their older brands. Anyway this Gundams seems to have their own style (aside from MB and GFFMC). It may have something to do with the Statues their represent. But, the chogokin logo also appeared (next to robot damashii logo, which is already at PO) when they introduced the new Aerial gundam from the upcoming anime The Witch From Mercury, so it seems we will have other gundams other than the statues... I'm curious abot how far it will go. Im not interested in any of the releases so far (I was interested in their RX93 until they showed it in a small clip with amuro piloting it, Id rather wait and have the CCA version)

Yeah, it does make sense from a tourist marketing point of view. Just that for us toy enthusiasts, knowing all major current sub-brands within Bandai, the CHOGOKIN line hasn't been the prominent toyline for Bandai for decades. It was, when back in the days that predates SOCs during the POPY era, but only random releases on and off these days (Hello Kitty Chogokin e.g.), and I suppose the Macross DX line can be considered as part of it. But at the same time, it doesn't bother me one bit what toyline it belongs, as I collect base on how much I like the product, not based on completing a toyline. And all passes for me so far. That can change when the RX-93 Nu repaint "Fin Funnels ver." happens.

Me neither, I try to keep my collection in scale though... so This being almost 1/100 like MB and GFFMC (except for the psycho gundams which I dont own because of that) makes me happy. Im still angry at bandai for releasing barbatos lupus rex in the metal robot damashii collection...

Have a feeling this show is not for me. Take off the red white and blue color scheme, and it can be anything instead of a Gundam.

To me it looks like a kit bash from the G gundam (head), an astray (chest) and barbabtod (limbs)... Big eyes, tiny chin, skinny arms, narrow waist, thunder thighs, pointy feet. This Gundam is a "she", alright. The show might still be good. Just that the first impression and the mech designs are not my cup of tea.

I'm getting a 00/Exia vibe from it, it looks like one of the Gundams that get's upgraded weapons pack instead of something like a Freedom that is a all-in-one unit.
