heads up! VOTOMS BD (region-A) is coming out soon! amz updated their po-page with what seems to be finalized pics of the bd-covers and some screenshots: www.amazon.com/gp/product/631764232Xhowever, the covers still don't give details or titles of the "6 compilation movies" it's including. At any rate, the remastered TV-episodes should be still be nice to get. Especially if you missed out on the now-ancient CPM ammo-box dvd-release. Currently down to US$33.19 po-pricing and a March-release. Get it! Outside of Macross-DYRL and Macross-Plus, this is the BESTEST mecha anime ever! View Attachment View Attachment Thanks to your post, I found their Ideon Blu-ray Collection that just came out, also one of the BESTEST super robot show of its time. Votoms I do have the original TV DVD set. But what those "6 compilation movies" are may sway me to buy it. Please post more info if you find out, or when you get your blu-ray to verify what those movies are. Thanks. And I get my anime from Rightstuf (free shipping, no tax), as Amazon keep getting my discs package damaged going cheap on packaging, with my discs banging around inside the shipping box with little to no stuffing or plastic wrap, all the time. Terrible. Not worth saving the couple extra bucks.

Very confused on yet another Votoms blu-ray release. What exactly are these 8 OVA episodes + Pailsen Files? What are the 8 OVA titles included specifically? I want to get this, but want to know at least what I am paying for.

That's a good question since none of the spinoff OVAs are eight episodes, and the amount of standalone OVA episodes don't total up to 8 either. Big Battle? Last Red Shoulder? Roots of Ambition? Surely not Shining Heresy?

Surely not Shining Heresy? Shining Heresy does have 5 episodes. Does that mean the 8 OVAs are exactly the ones you mentioned all added together, then add Pailsen Files on top? That would be a good collection. Pretty much all the old classics and Pailsen Files, but minus the newer OVAs and movies that came out the past few years. I have all those older stuff on Japanese DVD, but definitely would get them on Blu-ray and subtitled, if my speculation is correct on what they are.

I kinda doubt Shining Heresy would be included, but if it is, it'd be silly to leave out Alone Again. I think most of the other OVAs don't even follow Chirico and some of them take place in another continuity entirely. But if I were to pick one of those, I'd choose Mellowlink every time.

My titles-speculation for this OVA-1 are:
-- LRS -- RoA -- BB -- Shining Heresy -- Pailsen Files TV
The following below have native Blu-Ray editions so they may potentially show up in an eventual OVA-2 collection:
-- Pailsen Files Movie -- Alone Again -- Phantom Arc -- Case:Irvine (non-Chirico/parallel universe) -- Votoms Finder (non-Chirico/parallel universe)
That said, the biggest elephant in the room is which offering does MellowLink gets included (TV? OVA-1? OVA-2? completely separate?), assuming it was licensed as well.

fyi. Votoms-TV BD released. Disc-1 and Disc-2 contain the 52 tv-episodes. Disc-3 stuff: The "movies" are just compressed 60-min versions of the arcs and stuff. The highlight of disc-3 was pretty much the "re-animated" op-themes using either some 1/48 ActicGears or prolly even ancient 1/24 kits. I'm a bit peeved that amz canceled my ova-1 order, so i'll prolly resurrect my acct at TheRightStuff-shop if MaidenJapan didn't cancel their OVA-offering altogether...

Just noticed this, but the always-venerable and always-reliable Mike Toole (at least from old-school anime fans) recently wrote an article about VOTOMS: www.animenewsnetwork.com/the-mike-toole-show/2019-03-11/.144186For anybody interested in VOTOMS anime universe/legends/myths, and would like a more solid background writeup on it...

fyi. Here are some quick comparo-snaps i took between this new BD-release (left-side) and the old fansub of the remastered r2-dvd version (right-side):
You may notice the obvious graininess, softness/unsharpened and other stuff from the BD-release in comparison with the old fansub-version. I'm not sure if MaidenJapan got the older original video-source or the recent remastered-video source to produce their BD-version. If they got the remastered-video source, then it prolly just shows the limitation of it when MJ converted it to BD format. I'm not sure if the fansub-group did some additional video cleanup and stuff on their version since I don't own the actual R2J remastered-boxset of VOTOMS-tv (it was/still is way too expensive!) to verify their video. Who knows? :shrugs: I didn't bother taking snaps from the old ammo-box r1-dvd from cpm since that was an even older non-remastered version, anyway.

fyi. Just got VOTOMS-OVA Blu-ray dekivered today and here is the menu-content: Oh snap! It got all the ingredients I want! Need to get myself a copy now. Thanks for the heads up. Seems so ridiculously good when it cost me more back then to just get 1 episode of the OVA on DVD from Japan, but now getting the 3 OVAs, all Shining Heresy, and all Pailsen Files, with subtitle and on blu-ray no less. So strange...

OVA-2 preorder now up at amzn: www.amazon.com/dp/6317849846/ 7/23 release. stupidly shocking expensive po-pricing at US$60??? it should go down in pricing. At any rate, let's see. I do hope these are the native bluray versions instead of the yet-another-sd-versions. 9 episodes should be: -- six for Phantom Arc -- one each for Case:Irvine, Votoms Finder and "Chirico's Return" <-- gotta be the "Alone Again" ova. -- still no Pailsen Files Movie nor Mellow Link. WTF, MaidenJapan???!!! <_<

Rightstuf is a good option if Amazon is not any cheaper. They ship their DVDs way better than Amazon's crappy packaging for sure, when it comes to movies.

welp! Just couldn't resist the 10k-yen pricing at sahra, so finally got me Fyana's DMZ-Spacedog... That's a very good buy. Indeed that's a really good deal. I personally feel these are some of the most underrated toys for the Scopedog Votoms series that were ever created. Really good hardware used, nice sculpt on the mini-figurines that comes with the bots, plus the accessories for the toys as included is a really nice touch by Takara. The paint apps are really nicely done I might add, something that is not seen on toys as common these days. Congrats on picking it up at a very very good price. I just wished Takara had done a few more variants of this toy line with some of the other mechs but I shouldn't be complaining given the ones they did produce were quite stellar.
