Ypsilon wonders why Bandai did not give RD Tachikoma an accessible pilot cockpit hatch feature like in the actual show...

Revisiting this thread got me buying the B2five Brutishdog. Good that I can still find it at decent price on ebay. Hope I'll like it as much as others. A more play friendly Brutishdog is always welcome.

Since this line excels in playability, and we never got a DMZ Brutishdog, I thought this would be a great entry piece. If I end up liking it a lot, maybe Marshydog next?

Just opened B2Five Brutishdog. Overall pretty positive impression with a few clicky joints and pretty playable as advertised. Though one thing really bothered me is the fitment of the pilot (Fyana) in the cockpit. No matter what I tried, there is just not enough leg room for the figure to sit down properly, and trying it a bunch of times wearing out the joints on the tiny figure. Eventually, the only way I could make her fit is to remove both her feet (pop off ball joints). I browse a few youtube videos and they all seem to have trouble with it and just cut out the process LOL. A little disappointed in that aspect, but otherwise a pretty good buy. Sturdy chubby little guy, well, not that little. Update. Finally found a review that shows the pose the figure needs to be in to fit. The thing is, my Fyana's hip joint normally can't bend that much, unless I really force it. It works now, but it left stressed marks on the hip socket pushing pass the 'stop' to reach that angle. Well, it fits now, with some more wear and tear...oh well. She does not look comfortable at all, sitting like a frog LOL. Gotta say though, there are plenty hidden extensions and multi hinged joints that made this little chubby fella very poseable. More so than my 'higher end' DMZs by far. Very fun desktop figures to fiddle with often. Super stable.

Impressive articulation and balance. For my DMZ scopedogs to pull off this leaning pose, they all need feet surgery to add in weights inside their feet to keep the figure from toppling off. Not this chubby guy. Just straight out of the box. I can even push it a bit more, if I don't mind a little wobble, but feet perfectly flat on the ground at this point. Very nice. Attachments:

Another piece of Votoms goodies dropped from the mail, the Votoms Complete Collection Blu-ray set! Got it at US$35 at BestBuy, what a steal. Having my favorite Brutishdog on the cover does help sway me to buy it, even though I pretty much have the whole collection in various format, DVDs, imports, some parts in blu-ray...etc. Nice to have the whole thing in Blu-ray in one nice compact form, with some nice graphics on the discs and cleaner disc menus. For folks that never got into the Votoms show, this is probably the best deal to get everything. Honestly, it is among the top real robot shows to date, though a bit old and animation pretty dated in the TV series. Normally, it will cost more than $35 just to import a single DVD back in the days (with only a few episodes of the show). This collection is like crazy cheap to a point, if you go to Amazon US and look at the customer reviews, like 80% are in Japanese, because all the Japanese fans flocked to buy this set due to the HUGE price difference compared to the Japanese available releases, flaws and all. Get it before it goes out of print. Though a couple big drawbacks on this set: - The Pailsen Files OVA disc (12 episodes) was printed in the wrong aspect ratio. The show is 16:9, but Maiden Japan made a mistake on this set and printed it at 4:3 with side black bars, making the video on that OVA series all squished vertically. Very disappointed, as Pailsen Files was printed correctly in their earlier OVA Part I disc in 16:9. However, because they cramped more shows in 1 blu-ray disc in that previously release, the single Pailsen Files OVA disc in this Complete Collection visually looks a little better. Still SD quality, but a small improvement over the previous release. - The entire collection has yellow English subtitles hardcoded into the video, so you cannot turn the subtitles on and off. While I do watch these with subtitles, it would be nice to have it separated with the option to turn on or off. Oh well. - Don't expect the video quality to be very good, as this is a cheap release unlike the premium remastered stuff from Japan, that literally cost more than 20 times as much. Most of the shows are in SD definition varies from grainy VHS, LaserDisc, to old DVD quality. The newer shows (last 2 discs of the 9) are HD, much cleaner and sharper. - This collection while almost complete, still missing the side story Mellowlink OVA. On the other hand, the B2Five figure has some awesome shoulder extension, as well as a 90 degree wrist bend that let it replicate the front cover pose, very impressive! Attachments:

Still don't know if I should get the Marshydog, since most likely there will be better variants of the green Scopedog (red shoulder turbo customs) as long as the toy line survives. Though my Brutishdog might be very lonely without a Chirico counterpart to hang out with...not sure what to do.
