I've been reading that the first one of these is coming out in May and have seen some pictures of the prototype on the internet. They are supposed to be fully transformable and feature a removable pilot figure. Anyone have further details?

Dude, I recommend that you wait a little before purchasing this toy when it comes out.
Check out different boards and websites for reviews about the toy.

Wait like after it bombs when EB sells it or software Etc sells it for MSRP and then figure out that no one will pay $80 for it and then adjust the price to $30. That's what I would do.

I guess if the history of the Toynami Masterpiece Valks is any indication, it would be worth it to wait a bit before getting one of these. I recall that they didn't exactly fly off the shelves. However, the idea of an updated Legioss... I still want one at a reduced price.

I'm still waiting for this one too but time will tell if it is worth it or not. Even if there are no competition in the market, still they need to make it a quality product.

I agree. Quality is important when you're spending that much money for a figure. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews of this on sites like Macrossworld and Toyboxdx. I can only hope it's decent and without too many glaring flaws. If only Yamato would make a 1/48 scale Legioss of the same high quality as the Macross Valks. Hmm.

Macross Valks? Not the MPC ones, right? The way I see it, this toy will open at $80, a few will buy it, die hard RT fans...we are in a recession after all. Then people on eBay will start the auctions at $50, no one will still buy it...this is the time to start getting it if you really want one. Then stores like GS and EB will close it out at $9.99 or whatever that's when all heck will break loose, if you are built like a linebacker, go ahead and buy it here. Then all the people who missed out and wants a Legioss will start looking for it on eBay and pay outreageous prices for it, definitely not the time to buy, unless you absolutely have to have it! LOL ;D ;D ;D

I read somewhere that a Tread will be made by Toynami to combine with the Legioss. Anyone know more?

I guess right now the Toynami version is the best Alpha you can get. But at around 7-8 inches and $80.00 it's very overpriced, I don't know if I should just get one now or wait sometime and see if the price comes down.

From what I've seen of Toynami valks, this might not be worth the attention its getting. Cmon Yamato make one!

Thanks for the link to the review! I'm not pleased with the way the fighter sits with landing gear down based on the photo in the review. Yecch. I guess I'll wait to see if the price comes down some in the next few weeks/months.

OK, I posted elsewhere, but I think I am the only dude on the board who now owns one. I love it! VERY heavy, very solid, great design. Sure it is small, but so are all my SoC robots with a few exceptions. Is a Getter Liger worth $100? People on e-bay thinks so. Is this Alpha worth $80? HELL YES! I am no huge Robotech fanboy either, but I think this is a very nice piece. I hope to see someone else get one and review it. I honestly think this is superior to the 1/48 Valks at this point (and I own 11 of them). Size isn't everything....

Wondering why you think it's superior to a Yamato 1/48 valk. Do you find that it looks awkward with its landing gear down? Thanks.

bbechtold, which number is yours? I have heard some QC problems with the Alphas, but maybe the later ones are better than the initial release.

Mine is number 2314. After looking at it more I found one thing I am not thrilled about, but it is probably 100% user error (meaning my fault). I cannot get the arms to fit correctly when transforming back to jet mode. The problem is I cannot get the fists to fit in a small enough space for the arms to properly collapse. Of course, this is probably my fault not a design flaw as the arms fit perfectly when it arrived.
On this versus the 1/48s. This has a MUCH higher die-cast content than the Yamatos. It has the solid feel of a SoC model. I find it hard to really compare it to the 1/48 Valks since they are different designs. I think the typical Valk design is more clean and graceful. This Alpha looks more "real" or functional to me. The details are great, quality seems much higher than the Masterpiece Valks as well.
Anyway those are my comments good and bad so far.
