Well, it does seem to say "Made in China". So much for the rumors, then!
Guess it's too expensive to produce toy robots in Japan now.

I am waiting to see a review of this before I plunk down over a c note for this. The only thing that I am worried about is the paint job, because honestly, the paint jobs on most GFF are terrible. Hopefully Bandai has better QC with this one.

Guys, don't worry about the paint job. This time, Bandai did good job on this Metal Composite. The paint job on this figure is comparable with the modeler's resin kit. So, it's no longer an issue. But the only things most GFF collectors complaint on this figure are: 1) Vertical gaps on its front lower arms are not covered 2) Unmoveable waist 3) Unremoveable caps on the top of its shoulders Other than those, it is still worthwhile to be collected! A Japanese's review of this figure can be found on the following website: f52.aaa.livedoor.jp/~gffm/lineup/1001.html#top

Cool, Bro! Thanks for the link. Is it possible to make a movable waist with the removable core fighter construction? I've never look in details at the MG kits, so I don't know if the waist are movable in those products.

Hi, I just got this earlier... GFF #1001 Metal Composite RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. Ka w/ G-Fighter Everybody wants to know how is the diecast content of this new line of Gundams. Well, all I can say is, "THE DIECAST CONTENT IS MINIMAL." Like only 20% for the figure itself. Lots of metal screws but they are all hidden, you will never see a screw, all covered up. EDITED Diecast content is about 50%-60% I guess. So it is not minimal. Sorry for the wrong info. Here's my own observations: Good: -Very good paint job. Matt finish. -Highly detailed just like its small counterpart GFFs. -Diecast parts are the whole bicep/tricep part, and the ankle frame. On the G-Fighter, the whole part of the wheels (the grey color) except the wheels itself are diecast. Also the joints are metal like the shield's joints, and other moving parts. The whole inner leg frame is made of metal too.-Moving treads and wheels. -Good quality plastics were used. -Lots of weapons and accesories. -Rachet knee joints and the G-fighter's blue part of the wings were racheted. -No loose parts or joints. -Basic articulation for a GFF figure. Bad: -Small amount of diecast parts. Sorry, my bad, this is not true, it has a decent amount of diecast parts.-Some paint chipping will occur if not careful. -Manipulators are hard to insert on the hole. But not all of the hands though. It might break if forced so much. -Lots of plastic were used. Comparison of the 1/100 GFF with the 1/144 GFF RX-78-2 Gundam W/ the huge G-Fighter Core Fighter (very detailed) Comparison with the core fighter included on 1/144 GFF#0007 G3. The same size. Transformable to core block. Legs' articulation. It cannot kneel fully though. Arm's articulation Thrusters can be moved and the Bazooka handler behind can be opened. Nice. Height comparison w/ other SOCS That's all for now! Overall I like the figure, eventhough the diecast content is no match w/ SOC's. Gundam fans will truly appreciate it. Thanks! vic01

Wait, I made some discoveries... I opened the plastic armors but be careful opening the covered parts. The whole inner frame of the leg, the upper grey limb goin down to the ankle are DIECASTS!!! This grey part is diecast except the knee joints: The inner frame are all diecasts except the hydraulics and the connection to the ankle (where the white ankle armor is connected is not the diecast part). Sweet! The grey part except the center part where the clip-like is located are all diecast. So the whole grey groin are diecast. That is why I was thinking, how come it is a bit heavy. They hide the metals, hehe! Cool! More diecasts were used! vic01

Now that's a nice Gundam figure, so it seems most of the inner frame is diecast, nice. to bad it doesn't come with a stand or something since there seems to be a lot of accessories. Plus it's larger than I expected. I'm just not sure if it would fit in my "SOC Scale" collection since it's a little larger than it "should" be compared to the other SOC's. At 1/144 scale it would fit in better just like Xabungle but still this is a great figure and right now is probably THE definitive RX-78-2 for diecast lovers.

Great Review Vic01. Especially on the size comparison. Now I know what to expect. Finally, a GFF Gundam without sloppy paint job. I will see if I can pick one up today at the convention.

got mine yesterday for P6000 ($120) its a very good model with lots of accessories. the only thing i dont like are the hands, especially the hands that can hold the beam sabers. the hands cant seem to grip it properly. they should have made the hands like the MG kits. otherwise, its a great buy. hope they continue the line with future releases like zeta, strike, wing, nu, gpo1.

Vic01: Thanks for the review. My question is, how can the 1/100 Ver. Ka and the 1/144 G-3 have core fighters in the same scale?
Kid: You from the Philippines? If so, where'd you get it for P6,000?

D@mn! That's awesome review and pics Vic! Mine is still stuck in HLJ's shipping ...
Some questions: Do you have to remove those core fighter parts (landing gears etc.) for transformation?! Can you open the cockpit (both core fighter and the Gundam)?! Will posing cause paintchips in the diecast parts?!
You know, I think I'm really going to like the GFF Metal 1:100 Series!
Edit: One of your pics already shown that the Gundam cockpit can be opened. My bad.

Chen: Thanks! A must buy for a decent Gundam diecast figure. supergetterv: I got this last friday on WonderCon. MazingerC: No, you cannot since there are no optional parts included the same as the 1/144 GFF RX-78. kid: It's true, like a pain in the arse. But mine can hold it decently. paladin: Thanks! Just take a look at this... The core-fighter included on the 1/144 are just 1/100 replicas. Just like a bonus item for the 1/144 GFF RX-78s. The one included on the the small GFFs is big that if ever it can transform, it won't fit the belly of the 1/144. nikodiablo: Thanks man! Its for the others who wants to know this figure, hehe! For your questions: Do you have to remove those core fighter parts (landing gears etc.) for transformation?!-- Yup! you have to, it won't fit the torso if the cover for the landing gears are connected. Can you open the cockpit (both core fighter and the Gundam)?!-- Yup! But the core fighter's and G-fighter's cannot be opened. Too bad. Will posing cause paintchips in the diecast parts?!-- I don't think so. No contacts mostly on the plastics and diecasts. Great design. BTW, when you transform the core-fighter to core block, there is a mechanism that when you fold the nosecone/cockpit, it will automatically fold the tailfin. Also the contact points of the upper torso and the waist will not result to paint chipping since the rec belly part is molded already in red color. Thanks! Get get it!!! I can't wait who's next! Ex-S? vic01

vic01: thanks for clarifying the facts bro! I'm soooo impatient for mine to arrive! You know, it's been 5 days since release, and everytime I check my order status at HLJ, it always said "Item being processed for shipping. Should leave our warehouse in a few days." Is this item selling like hotcakes or what?!
