Personally I loved G1 as a kid but looking back on it now it was pretty poor in almost every department excluding the occasional stand out episode. Beast Wars and for me Beast Machines (controversial I know!) are the best TF series to date. Beast Wars 2, Beast Wars Neo and Robots in Disguise were just plain silly in that way Japanese kids anime can be sometimes, the western versions of Armada, Energon and Cybertron were ruined by bad editing and crazy/bad voice acting and accents but the original Japanese shows were not too bad, especially Superlink which I though was pretty darn good, and I enjoyed Animated especially the way it looked but it was to shallow and derivative of previous TF series to bring anything new, interesting or particularly rewatchable to the table. Please Hasbro give us something fans both young and odd can get their teeth into! Preferably non-movie in aesthetic

Personally I loved G1 as a kid but looking back on it now it was pretty poor in almost every department excluding the occasional stand out episode. Thats about how I felt. I thought G1 was the best thing in the world till I watched it again a few years ago. Or at least tried to watch it. It was far better in my memory than it really is. Honestly, other than the style, and character personalities I have no love for the G1 cartoon. It was one bad car part pun after another, and the writers were in bad need of a general science class. It will always have a place in my heart, and I love the characters but I could care less about the show. On the note of good TF shows. Beast Wars was great. I hated it as a kid, and loved it as an adult. I also think the last season of TF Animated was great. I think if it did not have the cheesy human villains and the "Animated" style it would have been an even bigger hit with everyone. As for the toys I liked them, but I bet if you changed the head sculpt to be more traditional G1 some of the toys would translate over pretty well. I think it would be pretty cool if Hasbro had a few different TF shows on their network. They could treat it as the TF Power block and run three different 15 minute TF shows. (Got to leave room for commercials). One could be based on the Movie Universe, another could be a G1 Classics show, and another could be made for the younger kids by using the Animated Style and stories. I imagine that Hasbro would not be that forward thinking, but by doing that they could target a wider range of fans and market all their toy lines.

Well I can still sit down and watch G1 and thoroughly enjoy especially the first two seasons but mostly the first one. Of course I can see that it's dated and the stories were formulaic but it had heart and characterization but mainly scope. You had a real sense that this was a RACE of beings divided by war and not your typical handful of Autobots and Decepticons that get screen time. Plus I loved the almost militaristic aspect of the show, Optimus was Supreme Commander and for the most part no one challenged him and there was a clear chain of command which would make sense since the Autobots and Decepticans were armies. It also had characters that performed different roles other than just a warrior or medic, in a way it kinda reminded me of G.I Joe in that each Transformer had a role or function. Plus it still has the most varied kinds of Transformers ever, from cassettes, to jets, to combiners, to cities, to a freaken planet.

If Bell gets the voice it's going to be really strange hearing Prowls voice coming out of Ratchet. Some people have pointed out that this casting proves that this wont be a return Animated or Beast Wars/Machines as has been speculated. The presence of a general in this series does give some credit to the theory that the new toon will be based on the movies.

Whatever it is its probably gonna suck devistators hanging metal ballz.
Beast Wars was aweome... not sure why they crapped the bed on Beast Machines though. I wanted to slash my wrists after I saw that.
I didnt mind Engergon, I watched all the subbed episodes of that but it still wasnt THAT great.
Animated, watched one episode and thats about it. I wont get that 22min back.
Track record thus far is pretty hurting. I think the di-hard fans are gonna be to hard to please in my mind and they arent really giving a rats ass what we want.... they care what todays children want. Target audience people. A remake of the G1... Id probably jizz in my pants.

So it would seem the designs will be movie inspired. Sorry for those who hate the movie. Based on speculation this will be about how Optimus became prime, so I assume it will just be an extension of the movie lore. So I can only assume that the toys for the cartoon will be movie styled designs. I was hoping for something new. At least there are some new lines coming out as well. I like some of the movie toys, but am still a bigger fan of the universe style. I would like to see some simplified figures that might look more like the animation just like Animated did, but from a marketing standpoint I think the movie theme will continue. See BB in the link. tformers.com/article.php?sid=13158

I don't think it'll be all back story. That BB seems to have an Earth alt mode and the casting call included human sounding names (General Fowler being one). I think it'll jump a lot between past and present if it is indeed movie based like how Animated did.

Damn movie! I'm happy that it expanded the fanbase and popularity but I HATE the designs and how everything has a movie inspired look to it now, that's why I ONLY but MP's.

I have really enjoyed all the discussion with this thread. My thoughts are along the same line as most of you. G1 will always be my most favorite series b/c it's what got me into collecting Transformers. Until I got a transformers guide book that showed all the figures from the various Japanese Transformers series,I didn't know they existed.
Although most of the Japanese series have pretty bad dubbing and storylines, they did produce some really great action figures such as Overlord, Black Zarak, Grand Maximus, Star Convoy, Densarus, Road Caesar, and Dai Atlas to name a few.
I have all the various Japanese Transformers series on DVD, but had to order a special DVD player that would play them. They are all in English too. If I had to pick one Japanese series that was tolerable to watch, I would pick Masterforce.
The series Robots In Disguise had its good moments. My favorite scenes in this series was when Fortress Maximus came to life toward the end of the series run and kicked Megatron's butt with all of his firepower! He used ALL of his weapons, leg cannons, waist cannons and arm cannons! And I did like the merging of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnes.
I truely loved Beast Wars! Beast Machines was ok...it had a environmentalist feel to it. I just hope the next new series is CGI and has a good and solid storyline behind itlike BW.
