The razzie would have to be the Maya Sterling Alpha Fighter that came out way back in January and was so bad, it's the first time I've ever heard a toy company issue a recall... It's nothing personal (because I never even got mine - my pre-order was cancelled in the midst of that confusion)... and the fact that the promised reissue never came out is another story altogether (whoever heard of a physical product reverting to "vapourware?") Maybe I'm just bitter. I have no nominations for TOTY since the only robot/anime related "toy" I added to my collection this year is the ridiculously over-priced 1:1 scale Macross helmet. That pretty much took up my entire toy-collecting budget for 2009. I don't think it qualifies because I believe it's a reissue from a past year. I suppose I could nominate Macross Quarter from Bandai's chogokin brand. Technically it qualifies but mine hasn't even arrived in the mail so I couldn't even vote on it if it were nominated.

My TOTY (<$150 + non-transforming) is the Bandai SOC Getter Dragon. Great articulation, no-frills, and nice metal content. A durable fun toy based on a great bot. No transformations, not a ton of accessories -- but that's why I like this TOY. The GX-45A came a close 2nd, but the Dragon edged it out.

ARRRRRRGH!!! My bad for not paying Attention! Ok, I'll nominate it for next year's TOTY. Back to This year's TOTY: Getter Dragon, latest version. It looks better colored... and although I'm not much of a Getter fan, I would Definitely buy this version for its looks. Simply an awesome and beutiful specimen. ;D zozo-magengar Ok... my vote for TOTY goes to: (drum roll......................Crash!) SHIN MAZINGER-Z JumboAre you referring to this one: www.hlj.com/product/BAN959002If that's the case, it actually hasn't been released yet. Release date has been pushed to February 2010. Keep it coming guys. I am keeping track with a spreadsheet. I still need more TOTY candidate. Please nominate!!!!

any more input guys?
BTW, I would consider mospeada cyclones "robot", since it requires power and even transformation. EX-gear would count too. Saint seiya will not count because it is more a "cloth" than anything.

No new toys here. Carry on!

Actually, I wouldn't consider owning the toy to be a requirement. You can base your vote by reviews / photos / opinions as well.
Post #2 - list of 2009 bots - is continuously updated. So is the spreadsheet. So roam around. Let me know if we are missing any.

Here’s mine:
Group 1 (>$150 and transforms):
1st place Danguard Ace (Silver chrome Metallic ver. ) goes really well with SOCs with chrome part. Fantastic solid Godaikin-like toy
Runner up: GX-46 D&A – Inspiring stylistic aesthetics
Group 2 (>$150 but doesn't transform):
I don’t believe I got any in this class….still playing catch up from previous years releases.
Group 3 (<$150 and transforms):
1st Place GX-49 Shin Mazinger – for lack of competition….and I did pick this one up, it does have a lot of retro appeal never mind that it lacked diecast.
Group 4 (<$150 but doesn't transform):
1st GX-45A Mazinger Atami Night Version – Its metallic grey colors and dark styling put this baby over the top.
GX-47 Shin Energa Z – Somehow its red color scheme grew on me, and now I wouldn’t have it in any other color.
Group 5 (<50)
The only figures I bought in this category were Titanium Transformers Target exclusive Thrust and Titanium Transformers Target exclusive Optimus Prime
I’d proudly nominate them if they hadn’t been re-colors from previous years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On a separate note, where are all the Bandai Macross Frontier DX chogokin nominations?
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone nominate them, and we’re on the 2nd page, are they not worthy?

Transforming, more than $150: Yamato Danguard Ace, 1/10 Beagle/Toynami Mospeada Ride Armor, Macross VF-25 (any of them, but Ozma Armored and Michael were the best) or Macross Quarter
Non-Transforming, more than $150: I don't think I got any!
Transforming, less than $150: GX-49 Shin Mazinger Big Bang Punch, Yamato VF-1J Weathering version. Just looks AWESOME.
Non-transforming, less than $150: GX-51 Getter Dragon

macross quarter is looking so good that I am tempted to nominate it for TOTY.
the bad news is that now I am also tempted to shell out $200 for that thing.....and my budget has been blown for December already.
Any nomination for overall TOTY or individual group TOTY are still welcome.

you can't have a TOTY thread without the Prime Jumbo machinder. it's like having a marathon and not inviting the Kenyans.

but also like inviting heavy weight boxer to a feather weight fight, it's just so different than everything else list, no?
It does look very impressive with the LED. Technically it's a speaker tower???

then it really isn't a TOTY thread. just an SOC of the year thread. we might as well move this thread to the SOC BB.

hey man, just different point of views here. No need to start with me.
The prime is a jumbo 3 feet tall speaker tower, while everything else being nominated here are no more than 13 inches tall, and it's close to 2X the price of everything else listed. I'm not taking away the Prime jumbo's place in toy history, it's just that it's rather out of place along everything else that has been discussed.

I really could care less if the speaker tower Jumbo Optimus Prime is on the list - is that thing a toy anyway??? Who in the world would play with it?!!! Bah! Who cares. It will probably get a vote or two... maybe. Funny, nobody has nominated the GX-50 SOC Combattler yet!!! }D

were Fewture jumbos excluded from previous TOTY threads? they were also 2x the size and price of most anything else released.
it just seems like if this is a thread to nominate our picks for what was the absolute best release of 2009 then it should consist of exactly that. our nominees.

LOL. Okay, your insistence paid off, I'll add the jumbo to the list of nominees. That will make it eight and I will start the poll. I still think it's very different from everything else, but to each his own.
I guess not too many got the GX-50, or at least it hasn't arrived yet.

The poll has started! We have 20 days to vote until 1/13 3PM PST.
THe more you vote the more legitimate the statistics are, so please vote!
I modified the list of nominees a little (took out GX-46 and Yamato VE-1 and added Robotech Cyclone and GX-48) based on results from the spreadsheet.
