I don't have a G1 Rodimus anymore but if anyone does and have any of the MP's could you post a pic just to get an accurate size idea? Here you go: shamelessly stolen from juise @ TFW: linky

That's a little misleading because they're standing at an angle and the G1 RP is further back than the MP. The G1 version should be a little bigger and the MP should be a bit smaller perspective wise which should place him exactly the same size as Grimlock. Now that the figure is in magazines we should be seeing some new pictures with better scale references soon.

EDIT: sorry, I've been perusing TFW boards so much I thought your disagreement was that MP Rodimus was bigger than Grimlock. Sorry about that. No, you're absolutely right, he's probably going to be basically the same size. The above picture demonstrates it a bit more clearly.

It's fine, and that image does do a much better job illustrating the sizes. Looks like they'll be pretty close to the same size (Grimlock could come forward a bit more, he has bigger feet so lining up the toes isn't right). Just goes to show that bot scale really doesn't exist in MP.

Is TAKARA going cheap now? I just hope this is not the final scale Prototypes can occasionally be bigger than the final product, but they're almost NEVER smaller. This is how big Rodimus will be. And Takara isn't going cheap. Manufacturing has gotten a lot more expensive since the days of MP01. This is probably as big as the figure can be while staying in the target 16000 yen price range.

Yeah it's only a couple thousand Yen more expensive than Grimlock with what looks like a more complex design and a "bigger bang for your buck" deal with the trailer. I've seen smaller prototypes like for the SOC Ideon but for the most part there either bigger or roughly the same size as the production toy. It's just a shame though, I'm finally getting a Prime that will be smaller and thus look good with MP Grimlock, and along comes Rodimus Whiner and he's gonna be bigger than Prime. Oh well Rodimus still couldn't polish Primes wheels lol.

Give 'em time, I'm sure they'll shrink down Rodimus, too.

Probably but I'm cool with only one version. It's such a shame that we only got to see the whiner Rodimus while in Japan he was a bit bolder and self confident. I always thought that with the flames on his chest and the whole look he should have been portrayed more of a biker/badass leader. I have this one pick by a Japanese artists of both Prime and Rodimus and he actually looks pretty cool in it.

I'm very excited about MP Rodimus! The design looks like it has some very interesting engineering implemented so at least on a design level, I'm sure the figure will impress me. Aesthetically, though some criticize the figure for being to skinny/lanky and for having a gaunt face sculpt, I think those features give Rodimus a more regal and statuesque appearance befitting a troubled leader.
Rodimus is certainly deserving the bad rap for being whiny/emo/angst ridden/etc., but I always had a fond spot for the character. I think the intent of the character concept was good, which was to introduce the cartoon's viewers to the inheritor of the Matrix who faced struggles while trying to learn how to become a true leader. I also like the way we see a less than perfect leader in Rodimus rather than the mostly confident and somewhat pedestrian cliche portrayed by Optimus Prime(though I am a big fan of Optimus!) Unfortunately, the concept of the Rodimus character was largely pushed aside by poor writing in the G1 cartoon. Putting aside my nostalgia for a moment, I have to say that the G1 cartoon's writing was horrid for the most part!

Hot Rod would have been cooler, but I suppose its finally time for Rodimus to get a good toy.

Now that we see scale and more detailed pics, I gotta say I'm more interested in this figure. The original Rodimus Prime was pretty much a downgrade from Hot Rod as far as toy design went (I mean serious, look at Hot Rod and look at Rodimus with his "trailer"... Rodimus Prime kind of sucked by comparison). The "future" of autobot leadership deserved so much more.

You mean it is being speculated but not yet confirmed that it can be converted to and from Hot Rod (according to the comments on the Seibertron post). I kind of find that hard to believe... although, I might find it easier to believe that this will be a 2-pack of some kind. I keep looking at the photos we've seen and while the argument was made that he's as tall as MP Grimlock, he's nowhere near the same bulk... and he'll retail more than Grimlock? Hmm... I would settle for two simpler designs than one tiny robot-mode (although, I admit, it's unlikely).

The height extension seems to come from the hips. Face change is probably a head swap or a swiveling head like the MP Seekers.
MP Roddy is starting to look good, but I'm still iffy about that price tag.
