However, none of the "old stove" finish parts are diecast. Not even the legs. There's metal underneath, probably, most likely, but the shell is made of plastic. It looks good anyway, real good, but there's no "old stove" feeling to the touch. Thta's quite dissapointing. I would have imagined those would have been the parts in metal, given that old beaten up metal look. Totally agree! To pay around 500 USD for a chogokin robo ... but without being able to feel the diecast parts .... Someone has missed the essential point with the "Diecast love"! It's like putting a Ferrari engine underneath a Toyota .... not so fun.

I've fetched some stuff to do a quick photo shoot of Max Gokin and SOC Big-Oes. I just need to clean up my desk a bit and I'll do it. It should be all done and posted later this evening. For now, some weight-in stats : Max Gokin Big-O, according to AmiAmi's description, was supposed to weight 1050g. With bare minimums, no car in the foot, no batteries, no chains attached and the default poseable hands on, mine weighted in at 1076g (2lb 6oz) on my little kitchen scale. Soul of Chogokin Big-O, in the same conditions, weighted in at 534g (1 lb 3oz). Fewture's Black Getter (original version, of course) weights 1108g (2lb 7oz), with the cape and snap-on parts on (mostly everything except the tomahawk). Without the cape, it drops down to 938g (2lb 1oz). | weight | height | Fewture Black Getter | 1108g (with cape on) | 24cm | Max Gokin Big-O | 1076g | 30cm | SOC Big-O | 534g | 21cm |
| weight | height | Fewture Black Getter | 2.44lb (with cape on) | 9½" | Max Gokin Big-O | 2.38lb | 12" | SOC Big-O | 1.19lb | 8½" |

Ok, here they are. It took longer than expected. I went a little experimental, a little overboard and ended up with 49 pictures to upload. You can see the rest here : photobucket.com/bigosocvsmfI had lots of lighting troubles and I'm not pleased with the results. Not at all. Fortunately, I also shot the pictures in RAW, so most of them should be salvageable. I'll try to turn that into a little review later. Just don't expect Gold level of quality; not even Gold-plated.

Nice pictures. I think I will skip this one. The paint job for this Gokin is not good compared to SOC Big O.

Can't agree with you there. Yes, some parts could be better, like the lines on the face. These wouldn't be tough to fix if it bothers you that much, but for that price they could have done a better job. Some chromed parts like Bandai did on their SOC would have been nice too. But despite that, the Max Gokin is a more impressive piece overall, in my opinion. The old iron texture is not just a silly gimmick. It gives the figure a lot of presence. Bandai did a great job on their Big-O (I just don't understand why some persons hated it), but it looks flat next to Max Factory's, literally.
I my opinion, it goes like this : quality/price, the SOC wins, but ignoring the cost the Max Gokin is the better figure. It's a great figure, well done and impressive, but I would really hesitate to recommend it at its current price if you don't LOVE Big-O, because it is really quite expensive. Though if it does go on sale for around $200, do not hesitate.

Sorry to disappoint but I will not be doing a video review for Maxfactory Big-O simply because I do not own the figure. It was too expensive in my opinion and I was happy with the SOC one.
However, I do agree that the finishing is very well done, just that I would love it to have a lot more metal at that price point. Had the arms and torso been diecast, honestly, I might just ordered it on impulse.
Like some of you here, I will wait for it to go on sale before buying it.
It is a great figure, just that the price point is a major deterrent.

It looks awesome! I also would like to see this figure go down in price before spending money on it, but imagine if due to lack of popularity a second batch wouldn't be produced? It would certainly sky rocket in value. It's got a very classy packaging, and one thing I always liked about Big-O is the old school design. There is nothing that comes close to it. Now what's left is for you to get Roger, Dorothy and the two vinyls.

kwill probably wait for that next to impossible $200 sale tag... hahaha Yeah, $200 is probably too much of a wishful thinking. I just took what I paid at AmiAmi and cut it in half, forgetting that they had already chopped %20 off the MSRP. $250, %50 off MSRP, would be more plausible; slightly under the $300 mark might be more realistic. I kind of see this Big-O like a repeating of the CMs vs Yamato Ingrams. Yamato's Alphonse looked absolutely stunning, but cost between $350 and $400. It was marginally less expensive than Max Factory's Big-O, but at the time CMs' Brave Gokin Ingrams, including movie-style Ingram 1, had been on clearance at HLJ at obscenely low prices for what seemed like forever, so the parallel still holds. I like the Ingram design. It's sleek, classy, classic. I like it a lot. But not as much as I like $400. That I already had a bunch of CMs Ingrams, which were beautiful little gokins, didn't help Yamato's case. So I passed. Later, HLJ put it on sale at approximately %50 off. It might have been %40 or %45, I don't remember precisely, but it was roughly half price. I hesitated. The sale ended and I deeply regretted it. But it had not sold out, so HLJ put it back on sale a few days later. Then I jumped on it. When I got it, I was amazed by its size and the overall production value. Though I still couldn't see myself paying $400 for it, I understood why a Patlabor fanatic would gladly do. Now, I'm on the other side of the fence with this Big-O. As amazing as the Max Gokin Big-O is, I completely understand why someone would be baffled by its price, especially with the SOC around. The two Ingrams are sold out at HLJ now (the blue USA version is still in stock at $52 off), but you can still get them on eBay for relatively low prices. Their value hasn't exactly skyrocketed, though. You could get the Yamato Ingram 1 for $280 (shipping included) off eBay right now. I don't know if History will repeat itself with the Big-O, but I hope for you that it does. Personally I just didn't want to take the risk. Yeah, I'm repeating myself... again... I'm getting old... ;D Ignoring the limited color variants, has any Max Factory figure ever gone up in price? They sometimes get rare, like their Full Action Max Dann of Thursday, which is quite difficult to find these days, but they don't seem to go for insane prices when you do manage to find one. Mazinkaiser fetched some high amounts for a while, but then it got reissued. PS: Woah... wall of text. Posting it anyway. ;D

Now what's left is for you to get Roger, Dorothy and the two vinyls. I got Dorothy, Roger is on preorder and I'm strongly wishing for a Norman Figma, but I think I'll pass on the vinyls. They're just not expensive enough. ;D Nah, I'm passing on the vinyls simply because they're vinyls. They look good, but their pose is too static for my tastes. I know, it's common with vinyls. Just not my cup of tea. Mmm... some tea would be nice right now...

It has great packaging and the size of the figure is so impressive. Althought I am not into the texture finishing, I still hope they will drop the price... then I will jump into it!

Haven't seen cheaper less expensive than at AmiAmi. Slash that. Maybe I just did see it cheaper on eBay. One seller is selling it for US$398 plus $67 for shipping. At AmiAmi, it's $393, but it cost me a hundred bucks to have it shipped to Canada, along with a D-Arts Zero figure. I don't know how much it would have cost for Big-O alone. That Zero comes in a pretty small and light box, so it may not have had much impact on the total cost of shipping. Though it did force them to use a bigger box, which may have been a good thing. Like Fewtures' EX Gokins, Big-O comes in a brown box. But unlike Fewture's boxes, there is absolutely no padding between the outer brown box and the "real" box. Nothing, unless you consider a slim sheet of onion paper as padding. Also, Big-O's box has no markings that would indicate its content, just generic handling warnings (this side up, fragile, etc.). So a seller might be tempted to use it as a shipping box, which would be a disaster in the making. Well, a disaster for the box. The figure itself would still be very well protected.
