Its def not easy.... In fact it takes REAL talent to outdo the original.
But all the Voltron redesign pales in compare to the original. Thats just my opinion ofcourse. And on the record, I am not sh*tting on redesigns just because its not the original design.
There are example of modern design out doing the original classic. For example, Iron Man suits. But there are many more cases that classic is far better then any redesigns. Mustang, Corvetts, 280 Z, any classic CAFE bikes all will beat out any of the modern redesigns. Just speaking of the visual design..
Its takes real talent to out do the classic. And design wise, the original Voltron so far, by far is still the best.

I honestly do not like the design of this new voltron. I'm really disappointed since if you're coming out with a new design then you should make it look better than the original. You say that like it is easy. There's way too many people who will sh*t on ANY Voltron redesign simply because it's not the original design. I didn't say it was easy, I'm just saying the design isn't as good as the original. You can consider Great Mazinger and Mazinkaizer as redesigns of Mazinger and they look better. Mazinkaiser SKL is a redesign of Mazinkaiser and he looks totally bad ass. Mechagodzilla Kiryu can be considered a redesign of the old Mechagodzilla and it really is an improvement and shows the modernization of the concept. I'm not hating redesigns because it changes the original design, I'm hating some redesigns because it doesn't look better than the original. Even Greengetter gave an example of the Ironman suits. They should have just used the newer voltron chogokin since it looks a ton better as a Voltron that is modernized. I just call it as I see it, I just simply do not see the design as an improvement but it doesn't mean that the show would suck. It's not fair to call me a hater of redesigns, I may be a bit of a purist but that doesn't mean I'm not open to it especially when I see something that looks really good.

not really. if the design sucks. it sucks. there are lots lots ways to make an upgraded design and still make it look cool. ever heard of generations line or what FP is doing with transformers.. they dont look like 80s of the old.. but still look cool. upgrades or modernize were suppose to be an improvement... not the opposite hehe.. i think they just overdesigned voltron.. to the point of alienating hardcore fans a bit.

I'm still not quite sure where the best place to put this is (beyond a deep yearning for a new diecast Voltron). Here's the latest trailer of the new show I'm mostly moderately impressed. Yeah it has that TeenNik / Disney XD snarky kid tageted vibe going on. But at least it feels a little clever. (OK throwing up in the robot amused me). I'm mixed on the character designs. The regular pilots look great (Still no idea on sex/gender/species of Pidge), the aliens and Princess? Meh! They are lacking some spark that the originals had. As for the Robots? This is our first good look at the Lions in action and motion. They look Fantastic!!! I'm still undecided on the main Voltron Robot. It looks better than the last few versions. But still lacks some of the charm of the original. He's a little too rounded and roided up to be quite right. But he's not bad.

Oh one thing I had not realized. It seems this show is being made by the same team that made Avatar the Last Airbender? If so than my hopes went up a few notches. They are known for writing good characters and fun clever dialog.

Entire season comes out tomorrow on Netflix. Only reason I am keeping my Netflix subscription. Gonna cancel after watching this. So far, I am liking what I am seeing.

Watched the first episode. So far...I think it's pretty damn good. Rhys Darby as Coran is freaking hilarious.

Pretty entertaining first episode. And now the pilots uniform matches the lion color. The designs of the lion isn't bad. Voltron also looks pretty nice. Would definitely be interested in a Gokin version of it. This series, from the looks and production value is already way better than Voltron Force.

The new netflix voltron series is good. The old voltron series was ridiculous in the story and the japanese version was not that good either. The netflix voltron looks super good too!

of course if you watched the heavily edited WEP version you are going to feel something is missing and there is no plot, however the Japanese version was good, complete and funny to watch, its still early to judge on the new show i hope Bandai isn't playing with our minds again, also hoping its not voltron from new show we want the classic one for now, and an SRC version too would be awesome

No, I own the original japanese golion and the story is stupid. I mean, is good for children and thats it. This new story is a lot better, and like i said i already watched the full 11 episodes.
And I like the old golion but i rather hsve an soc of this new one. If bandai is going to make one, i want something that nobody else has already made.

Same here. I got them at Frys Electonic when they were on clearance sale. And not the Voltron series but the beast King GoLion DVDs. And I have to agree, I am liking the story of this reboot a lot more. The heavily edited Voltron, most of the episodes, they from Voltron and with one swing of the sword the episode ends. There isn't really any content. Now that work for kids and back then, kids just want to see their hero come out and kick butt. So that formula worked. This new version is really well made. Dreamworks studios and the animation team did a really good job. The lions look good. Voltron, while different, is nice. The writers wrote this for us old time fans. And the story telling is intriguing enough to attract new audience. You don't need to be a Voltron fan to like this new series.
