honestly since i saw Voltron design, im not excited about it any more, maybe its just me but how do you compare this to this You don't. I look at it as two separate things. It's just like people who hate the Michael Bay Transformers and every Transformers after G1. You got to separate these thing. That old Voltron, it's a classic. It was great for its time. It still brings back memories. Everything time they try to bring that back, it damages the legacy. Like that awful 3D rendition of it. I alway welcome new design. Whether it be a Goofy oddball design, classical influences, I like seeing new stuff. This is new Voltron. Not to be confused with the old one from the 80's, which is how I see it.

You cant compare, because theres no comparison. The classic is infinitely better.. I too welcome new design and takes on my favorite characters. But to me, he has to look good, not just different.
i dont like the this iteration because i find it too trendy with arbituary tech junk design and just plain old ugly. Currently, There arent ANY Golion that can out design the classic original. Thats because the power tobe wont spend a real change and hire the real talent to do a proper job.
Atleast Macross property tries....Voltron franchise is not even trying. But if you want to see who is doing excellent at updateing the look of character franchise, its the comic book industry. Look at most of redone comic book superheroes...Most of The current one looks superior to the classic customs.

I don't mind the new design, and I'm curious if, mechanically, it was planned with figures in mind.

for me the classic Voltron is the best the rest are just insults for the king of beasts, if they cant out design it when they just dont use again ? they just keep trying to give him a human like face or something close to buzz light year which is not a good mix look to Mazinger Z for example, every robot came after him took some design cues from the original design and to improved it this new Voltron is trying so hard to be a Voltron but its not working specially with the lion helmet looking kinda like Cobra logo from G I Joe but again this is just me and my honest opinion

Not a fan of the chest piece design but aside from that I'm willing to give this a chance, I just hope it will be a reboot and not a sequel, the last 2 sequels (Voltron 3rd Dimension and Lion Force) were not really that good. On a side note, since Playmates toys got the master toy license for this series, I think there's a good chance we'll see pilot figures and possibly a Castle of Lions playset. Gold

You know what I see? I see a bunch of animators and designers who watched GGG and stole a bunch of the combination sequences. I totally see sequences that are almost direct copies form GGG and King J-Der combination scenes. Still I'll give it a chance if the story and animation is good, but I have a feeling this will be a watered down cartoon for kids instead of something both kids and old fans can watch like Transformers Prime or the like.

Oh Gosh yes! Lol.. I thought I was imagining that. The way the lion legs shaft in, it's almost a copy of GGG's combination sequence. That said, I hope the new Voltron will have the same level of drama and excitement as GGG, I don't mind if it's a little watered down, as long as it can be a good example for kids, heck cartoons nowadays are so neutral, kids don't learn anything from them anymore. Way to be all "NOT GEEWUN ENOUGH!!!11" guys.... *eyeroll*
It doesn't look bad as far as a modern retelling goes, at least way better than the other stuff that came out before. And a lot of the key staff worked on Korra, so if you liked that this might be up your alley? I'll reserve judgement until I see it for myself.

I don't think it's fair to use Macross or MazingerZ as comparison. Likewise, modern day comic characters. I say this because these modern day updates on those franchise title are still worked on by their native talent. Trying really hard not to use Ethnic or Race on this. It pretty clear, that WEP wants to stay away Eastern influence and wants to use local talent. It's their way of saying Voltron is American. I don't thinks it's fair to call these designs water down. Aesthetically, it may not be to the liking of all. Animations are from teams that worked on Korra and Avatar last Airbender which is a styling that I like.
I actually like Voltron Force and would have love to have some merchandise for it. We got over 30 years of merchandise for the old classic design and are still getting new release, like the 18 inch Ultimate Voltron. Time for some new stuff for the non collectors. Actual toys I can buy for my son to play with.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we are mature adults as you pointed out, so we should be open-minded enough to give this a chance instead of just yelling that it ISN'T Go-Lion and therefor bad. That's the kind of toxic attitude that runs rampant in the TF fandom. I don't agree with some of their design choices for this Voltron either, but I'm willing to wait and see and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Yes, there are expectations associated with the name "Voltron" that need to be met, but its not 1984 anymore and we should be able to move forward.

Is that show out already? I was watching a terrible Voltron show with lots of CGI on Netflix this past summer. Was that it in the trailer? Or is this a different terrible CGI Voltron altogether?

I think that's the one from Nick toons? Voltron Force, The one where each of the lions can become the center/ body unit and grants Voltron a different weapon and there are new kid pilots on the scene? If so, this is an entirely unrelated show (I hope), Voltron Force ran only 26 episodes (1 season) and was cancelled due to low ratings. The cliffhanger at the end of the season was never resolved. Gold thats a new idea, it kinda make Voltron like Albegas its cool tho i think the animation is what make the show, old animes had soul and passion even with the characters doesn't look the same from scene to scene, i just really enjoyed it

I honestly do not like the design of this new voltron. I'm really disappointed since if you're coming out with a new design then you should make it look better than the original.

You say that like it is easy. There's way too many people who will sh*t on ANY Voltron redesign simply because it's not the original design.
