Can you imagine Bandai dropping the mic by releasing both a classic SOC voltron and a SOC of this modern one? Good lawd! Why stop at 2? You gotta throw a SOC Dairuger XV into the Nyquil induced fever wish list.

So watching the new show. I'm really liking the design aesthetic of the ships, robots and vehicles. About the only thing I am not crazy about is how the wings sit on the Black Lions back. Voltron itself has far more grace and power than I was expecting. It moves really well on screen. It really is a far better design than I was expecting. Not my classic Lions but very very likable in it's own right. It almost has a Mazinkaiser feel to it in motion.
Oh and neat Easter Egg. Did anybody notice that the Princess's outfit is a rather distinct homage to an EVA plug suit?

The wings are something I really actually like. They serve a purpose now. I had tears of joy when Voltron pulled out his sword. It was an epic moment. All the cheezy talk when they combined is gone.
There are some nice Easter eggs to be found.

then i guess we like different things the new story is kinda good judging on the first 1 hour even tho i dont like couple of the new elements im not going to mention it so i dont spoil it on the other guys also i noticed everywhere the show is listed as 13 episode not 11 episode !? what happen to the last two ? to most Voltron fans there isn't any figure that worth the name of Voltron so if Bandai did the classic one it will be a dream come true to most of us, the new design isnt bad but like i said we need the classic one more Same here. I got them at Frys Electonic when they were on clearance sale. And not the Voltron series but the beast King GoLion DVDs. And I have to agree, I am liking the story of this reboot a lot more. The heavily edited Voltron, most of the episodes, they from Voltron and with one swing of the sword the episode ends. There isn't really any content. Now that work for kids and back then, kids just want to see their hero come out and kick butt. So that formula worked. This new version is really well made. Dreamworks studios and the animation team did a really good job. The lions look good. Voltron, while different, is nice. The writers wrote this for us old time fans. And the story telling is intriguing enough to attract new audience. You don't need to be a Voltron fan to like this new series. whats the point of a hero that dont kick butts i dont know what did you watch, but it wasn't always form Voltron Form blazing sword and thats it, in some episodes Voltron really struggle to win the battle also i guess they put every thing they got in this show since the last Voltron related shows was a huge fail

With this much positive vibe, i ll check it out as soon as i renew my Netflix stream. Be warned it is a bit heavy in the modern teenage snarky comical banter. But it is well done for what it is. From the opening moments you can tall the series is done by the same guys that made Avatar, The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. A lot of their normal character tropes carry over. If you are familiar with those shows you can definitely see shades of Socca, Mako and Bolin in the main cast. With a few touches of Toph in Pidge. It's not as dark as the original show. But it is well put together with some good writing and good characters. Hey and they even explained Pidge! So bonus!

Only thing I wish it had was the original theme music. I find myself humming it during the intro and the combine sequence complete with "I'll form the head" narration. I know that's cheesy now but it just seems lacking without it. Like somebody hit the mute button. Overall I do like the show and it's very well done. I really do hope bandai comes out with an SOC.

I would have loved if they had used a Peter Cullen narration at the beginning. And the newer music is fairly unremarkable. It works for what it is, but doesn't stay with you beyond the episode.

I just watched the whole season, pretty damn good. I like it a lot! Oddly, Voltron seems like an afterthought, with the primary focus being on the pilots and their interactions, I'm okay with that, as the writing is solid and the script is witty.
Like what the other said, I do wish Dreamworks was able to put the original theme song into the series. The new opening is good, but pales to the original theme.
Wonder if we'll see the toys unveiled from Playmates this coming SDCC in July?

The new designs IMO is geared towards the younger generations. Thou I welcome this reincarnated Voltron but still not jumping up & down for it. It would be interesting to see a new toy.

for me i found the classic Voltron better in design and story but that doesn't mean the new one is bad at all i like it too i finish watching the new show couple of days ago i like it honestly even tho there's some elements that i dont like at all, the show also suffer from Shin Mazinger z syndrome which is less mecha fighting and more talking about the characters and their background this last statement may content SPOILERS for some they end the show right in the middle of the action, if season 2 got confirmed and approved it will be a good way to end it, but as far as i know season 2 is still pending

the chest and the horizontal part lines on his lowerlegs.....they look out of place, too simple, lazy.
Get rid of all the lion heads and he might as well be yet another iron man design or a gundam. And im not doing ironman or gundam any justice by saying that.....
Do the same with the classic, youd know its Voltron from miles away. Even his sword looks like he could have stole it from any ten dozen anime characters.....

also i noticed everywhere the show is listed as 13 episode not 11 episode !? what happen to the last two ? A normal "half hour" tv show is 22 minutes long. In this case the Pilot episode is technically 3 episodes and clocks in at 66 minutes. So it all counts as a full 13 episode season. It's just three of them are glued together.

If so I would suggest holding off final judgement until you watch it in motion in the show. Some elements that seem gaudy in the still pics really come together when it's in motion. The animators did an amazing job with this one. On screen it moves like we have always wanted to see our giant robots move. It all works well. Is it as good as the classic design? No. But likely nothing ever will. But here's the strange thing. After seeing the show with this thing in motion. I no longer want a SOC of it. What I really want is an SRC. I want the pose ability. I want a Chogokin form that moves like Diazrujin or Dekaranger Robo.
