You have the US Matchbox repackaging of GoLion as Voltron, which had the GB stickers but all the missile firing mechanisms were disabled. Also, the lions' teeth are rounded off.

Sorry Dude, looks like a Bootleg. The early bootlegs had the white hinges on the black lion wings as well.

The Godaikin version will have the stickers shown on this page. www.dxtoy.com.tw/http/lion.htmlThey also have working firing mechanisms, like in the Black Lion shoulders, Yellow Lion ears and back, etc. And they have longer, sharper teeth than the US versions.

The name of the company that put out the Convertors line was Select. In addition to the animal type convertors they put out (birds, insects) they repackaged about every one of the 1/80 scale 5" mecha cheapies that Takatoku produced from Orguss, Macross and Dorvack.

I would like to get a decent trading figure set of the Getter pilots. It's amazing they've never put one out IMO considering all the crap figures they do make - like the umpteen thousand Reis and Asukas.

I would so love to get ahold of that prototype. Wonder what ever happened to it?
Bort's gimmick was that he could transform into any type of machine, not just the plane. The airplane mode was just how he was stored in his recharge chamber in the aztek pyramid.

On one of the letters pages in the comics, a reader asked the same question as to why they used Reideen, Combattra, and Dangard instead of Great Mazinga, Dragun, and Gaiking. The Marvel editor responded that those were the ones that they could get the licenses to.

Go Nagai did a 1-shot Mazinger painted Graphic Novel for First Comics back in 1987 or 1988. This is the Mazinger design from that story. It was also later used in a Sega Genesis video game. In the story, it is a barren future earth where 2 warring factions use large mobile suits to battle each other. Most of the designs are very 'real robot' style rather than super robot. Koji is on one side and Mazinger is his battlesuit. He is blown into another dimension during battle by a big explosion. In the other dimension, he encounters people who are the same size as Mazinger. They think he is a knight and ask him to help him fight some lizard people, which he does because the Princess of the people runs around with her tits hanging out and Koji is hot for her ( although she's 20x his size). He blows the hell out of the Lizard people but the explosion blasts him back into his own dimension and runs back into battle where he left off. The End.
The story was kind of lackluster but I really do like the Mazinger design. Koji sits in the chest behind the Z symbol. Also in the story, Koji has black and pink punker hair.

Microman suffers from the 'exclusive' problem too. Espacially the Japan only magazine or show exclusives that would be hard to get.
I would say a line that is complete-able and still just a little challenging enough to make it interesting would be the 1980's Bandai High Complete Model series. Most of the more common ones can still be snagged for $10 - $15 MIB. A few are more challenging like the Valkyries but even those have dropped in price since Yamato. Then there are those pieces like the Auge, Vifams, Nu Gundam, Reideen and MKI Lgaim to provide the search element. Even those are popping up on ebay nowadays.

You can still score some of the Astroboy toys as well as the Megaman toys at BigLots. The ones near me still have the 8-9" figures of each and some of the 5" ones too.

Wasn't there a new Reideen anime back in 1996 that spawned the God Reideen toy? Anyone know where I can get/download that one?

Anyone got more info on those cool looking Zeta and ZZ DX figures in pic 7? Those are from the DX Gundam series released around 1984. They are about 8" tall, fairly poseable and all plastic. The Z and ZZ transform, kind of like upsized High Complete Models of the same time period. The line also included a Gundam MKII and became the foundation for the Musha Gundam Cloth series which featured the same base robots but with snap on Samurai armor. The Musha Cloth series also added 2 new robots in the form of Knight Gundam (Gundam MKIII with snap on knight armor) and Command Gundam which was a totally new design with a buttload of snap on armor and weapons.
