Lurker has some good points. For a jumbo sized figure and considering that it combines and fits action figures, it's as well done as anything I've seen. Maybe not perfect, but then I don't think I own a figure that I didn't wish there were some changes.

A combiner that doesn't combine just doesn't do it for me. Where is the fun in that? The whole purpose and the reason some of us like combining super robots is because we get to relive the show by combining the figure. Sure a soundbox is cool and all but what I remember most about Voltron as a kid, was that great looking gift box. Five lion separated, kept inside a styrofoam tray. Say what you will about the MPC Voltron, but it is probably the best 120$ I've ever spent. Great diecast content. Great looking collectible display box with great looking artwork. That SOC GodSigma might have a lot of bulk but is made of mostly plastic, cost nearly double that of MPC Voltron and probably weights a lot less than the MPC Voltron. But going back to the Mattel almost two feet tall Voltron, I still don't like the big gaps on his hips. I agree. Part of the importance of having an actual combiner vs. an action figure for me really depends on what the ships themselves are. When it comes to Voltron, the lions have at least as much of an iconic value to me as does the final combined robot. I mean Voltron IS the lions, that's what made him special among the plethora of other super robots. With other super robots the individual ships seemed like more of a side note than they did with Voltron.

to me a good voltron is what i want, dont really care if it breaks into five parts because i dont care for the lions, only voltron, so if making it a combiner is going to ruin how the figure looks, then i prefer it doesnt combine and is given better a scuplt and articulation instead. hopefully when bandai makes it, it will be in the src line and the soc line too. That's exactly how I've felt about Genesic Gaogaigar and many other bots. Voltron happens to be one robot where I do like the individual lion units, maybe because it was fairly unique in the early days of super robots in having animal shaped ships. I lusted over the black lion as a kid and I just can't shake it, so for me it doesn't feel complete unless it combines. But I do know what you are saying..

Of course the action figure sculpt would look better... I mean this particular figure doesn't even go as far as to detail in the folded legs of the individual lions, and there's no engineering to it at all. It looks fine, but I'm not sure if comparing it to any of the actual gattai robots really means anything? to mw it means that it looks better, and for persons with little money to buy figures like me, we will purchase the figure that actually looks like the tv robot and not like a smiling clown or a month old cadaver. Well sure, but to be fair with what looks better you have to compare apples to apples. That was my point. But then it depends what you're looking for too. Comparing the Mattel action figure to the gattai figures could make perfect sense for some of us.

I don't think the 24" Voltron is ideal, but the issues people are posting about odd proportions.. I just don't see it. Looking at the pic and comparing it with the Toynami pic, the proportions seem very similar. But it's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Other than that, I love it!

It's the white on the figure that really makes it look a little too plastic-ish. It might have looked better if they put just a drop of grey in the white mix to tone down that white?

I'm liking it too. Where this is an actual toy I'm sure the spring mechanism will be solid. The only time spring mechanisms tend to suck is when they get put into collector figures. And based upon the pics all over the web, all the lions are still very posable. Personally I go for the gimmicks, but granted this is a toy, it's not really a "collectable". I mean, it's made by Mattel.. woohoo!

If you watch close you can see that you don't actually need keys for any of these activations. Those are all just push buttons. The guy is just using a key for added effect.
I like the spring loaded button idea though. Very cool!

Yeah, the pilots are where they will really make their money. Nice strategic planning. You pretty much have to get them..

Simple... $$$ To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't announced the black repaints already. Simple money maker and all they have to do is change the paint and call them exclusives. Tons of people will bite! }D Yeah, it's fairly straight forward. The fact that Fewture waited this long is likely because they sort of know it's a breach of their integrity as to the Ryoma being a "limited edition".. but if you need money, this is the ticket. They know buyers are basically guaranteed, and the need for new molds to put this thing out is minimal. Easy money.

Is it me or does the Black Getter 1 just look meaner than the Ryoma version? With these mix and match parts I can't wait to see what people come up with to make their own personalized Black Getter. I think it looks better. The added details give it a bit of a tougher more high tech look. I'll be interested to see what this does to the secondary market of the semi-limited edition.

You know, I'm liking the new version of Voltron. It really does looks pretty good. ;D }D sexy mtfk, show sucks but the figure ownz! im getting this one for sure, where to pre order? I look at this and I see cheap Americanized animation design. It just looks so non-tech, more like something squeezed out of a shampoo bottle. But that's just me of course, and to each their own! Lol.

One thing that I like about this on first glance is that the legs of the lions look relatively beefy. I wasn't too happy with the Toynami lion legs on the red, green and black lions. I kind of hope to see these in the stores just to know that kids have a shot at these things.
