Based on the above order of operation, I would love to see someone with an original POPY or Dairugger XV knockoff sword make some resin swords for those of us who are not fortunate enough to have the scaled sword that was omitted from the U.S. released Matchbox Vehicle Voltron. Then I could send it off to my vac-metal guy to have it chromed!!
Anyone with an extra Dairugger XV sword? They never show up on Ebay....at least in the past two years that I have been searching.

Actually, our member chachipower has a possible project in the works for a diecast dairugger XV sword. There is a thread here if you use the search function. As for resin ones, there is a guy on eBay that sells swords cast in resin (I believe) from the bootleg sword (same sword). They are available plain or painted.

I can actually make the sword in silver or brass or both if I had the proper size measurements. The sword doesn't have a complicated design so it's very easy to replicate using traditional jewelry smithing methods.

I have been on that thread and it appears the project died some time ago with nothing further in the works. I have searched Ebay up and down with every possible search word combination and have never seen a guy selling resin swords. Would purchase one if I could locate him, provided the pricing was reasonable...

I wouldn't need a precious metals version, but something in an inexpensive metal that I could send out to be vac-metallized would be preferred...

I can't make a proper quote without knowing the dimensions of the sword and also I have to estimate how much work that's needed to make this . I could recommend brass since it's a cheap metal but it's also strong enough for a sword and can be vac-metalized easily.

Maybe someone else on the board here that sees this and owns an original would be kind enough to upload a pic with dims.

How tall is the Matchbox Vehicle Voltron? Perhaps we could use that information as a reference to figure out a good scale size sword for that Voltron figure.
Example: if the Matchbox Vehicle Voltron figure is 10 inches tall, then a 7 inch sword or slightly larger might work for it.
The sword on the MP's Vehicle Voltron is almost as tall as the figure itself... the VV is 12.5 inches tall, and its sword is 10.5 inches long.

I'm sure there are specs online somewhere. Currently scouring the web for some info on the Popy sword...The most accurate scale would most likely be MP Voltron and the accompanying swords. I'm vague on what the math would be...off the hip, the sword would probably be longer than the MP Voltron versions but by how much? 11"? 13"?

I believe the DX dairugger sword is at least 10 inches long.
I don't think the project is dead, he is assisted by a friend that does the casting and they are both very busy.

For some reason I can't post any images, it keeps saying the Forum has exceeded the size limits for images, even though my images are under 150kb in size (web viewable). Anyways, on Collection DX there is a decent pic of the Matchbox Voltron under Josh's review with the sword in hand. Still can't really get a sense of scale though, it would appear to be at least half the height of the DX version, again 9-10"? But maybe that scale isn't correct either? I would still put faith that MP has the right scale because they really did their homework on designing the MP Voltron and it would be a matter of scaling it up to pair with a 15-16" Matchbox version.
If Josh sees this, maybe he could throw his opinion in on the size, or just measure the one he owns....

Upload your images to Imageshack... as soon as the image is done uploaded Imageshack will provide you a direct link to the image... copy the direct link, and paste it here in the thread, then highlight the link with your mouse and click the Insert Image icon... the link will appear in the popup dialog box and just click Insert Image... then the image will appear here in the thread. As for that Matchbox Voltron... damn, I thought I had almost found one with a sword... www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/1984/voltron_1_deluxe_warrior_set...according to JoshB's review of the toy, the U.S. version didn't include a sword, for safety reasons... ...However, the bootlegged version which came out in 2004 and was sold at Toys-R-Us included a sword with it. Perhaps the sword from the bootlegged version can be used as reference, if all else fails with the Matchbox version. zozo-mag

That one is the same as the original and that is what the eBay guy used to cast his and also what our guys were using as a base.

Dang, those swords are quite the elusive lil boogers. lol Would be nice to see them more often so anyone who is missing a sword can get one. Not just in one material type, but in various other material types (Vac-metal, resin, plastic, chrome, etc...) zozo-mag

I was kinda bored in this wee hour (4:44am EST), and so I cut up some plastic tray molds from stuff my roommate bought a few months ago.
The plastic tray molds had previous original products in them, as part of the original packaging. The molds are vacuum-formed in a manner that resemble low-level boxes... low enough for me to pour Durham's Water Putty into them to make some mock-prototype Display stands.
As I'm typing this, I had just got done pouring the last mold (I had cut three molds, a fourth mold is actually an old plastic square sandwich container.) ...The water putty supposedly sets fast, but for this batch I used too much hot water, and the mix was a thin consistency. I added more putty as I stirred.
The original putty powder to water mixture ratio required is 3:1 (3 parts powder to 1 part water)... ...I mixed about 15 scoops of putty powder to 10 ounces of water as a base reference for me to see if I could cure the putty faster by adding more powder and less water. I cannot change what I had just poured into the plastic molds at this time, because I'll distort the shapes I want to solidify.
This isn't even a real project. It's just to keep me in practice with casting stuff until I can afford to buy more resin supplies in a couple weeks from now or as soon as possible. I'm jonesing to get back into casting resin objects since I hadn't done it in almost four years.
