So I wanted to have a thread that we can use to tell each other about games that you can either play as a robot, or there is a good bit of mecha piloting in the game.
When you list the game, note if its action or strategy or simulator etc.. Also list what the robot aspects of it are as well as what platform they are on. Maybe with this guide we all can learn about other great games.
Here is a list of ones I like so far.
• Transformers Armada PS2. Action, 3rd person. Play as a transforming robot. Lots of roboto carnage and a good challenge.
• Front Missions PS1, PS2, DS. Turn based strategy. Lots of customizing and cool mecha. Decent gameplay. Use mostly mecha in battle.
• Metal Arms PS2, Xbox. 3rd person action. Play as a robot, and fight other robots. Lots of carnage and a great challenge.
• Megaman Series, Tron Bonne. Sidescrollers, some 3d. (Unsure what the battle network games are) Play as a humaniod robot. Classic challenging game, some mecha piloting.
• Cybernator SNES, Wii console. Remade for PS2. Side scroller action. Great game with cool designs. Pilot a mecha to destroy other machines and mecha.
I'll add more if this thread get moving.

Robot Alchemic Drive (RAD) for the PS2 was a funky game, The game plays like commanding a giant RC toy with weapons (think a la Tetsujin, the pilot controls the robot via remote control box). You can also "switch" between being the pilot and driving the robot anytime during the stage. you can choose your pilot to be 1 of 3 kinds of personalities( a Girl, cool and calculating guy and the hot head guy). There was also a fun minigame involving your "girlfriend" (best friend, if you're playing as the girl pilot). You can screw with her when answering her questions (go with the mean or rude answers) and then, by wrecking her apartment, her place of work (twice I think) she eventually commits suicide! ;D Getting the answers right and not destroying her house and places of work during the missions will make for a happy ending (kinda...) Another game I really wished had a port to another platform was Capcom's "Tech Romancer". Fighting game with ripoffs of EVA/Ultraman, Gundams, Getter/Voltes, Mazinger, Mech Warrior and Macross! This was only released in the arcades and for the Sega Dreamcast. The controls for the Sega Dreamcast were a bit wonky compared to the arcade IMHO. I wonder if Capcom will ever release this for Ps2, Ps3? For an idea of this awesome game check out the opening cinemas and fight demos. There are even super finishers reminscent of popular finishing moves (big blazing "V" for one ) click for youtube link

Complete carnage.. lots of stuff to blow up. A lot of fun weapons. Pretty challenging despite its kiddie looking exterior. Story wasn't bad either.

There is Zone Of Enders (Z.O.E.) and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner for the PS 2, you pilot Jehuty, its a mecha action game. Created by Hideo Kojima, really great game too.
Next, Another Century's Episode and A.C.E. 2: another mecha action game, still in Japanese but you get to pilot a slew of Real Robots like Gundams, LFOs , and valks to name a few.
Another is the Super Robot Wars series, a tactical role playing game (multi-platform). Wish they make an English version of it though.
For an old PSX game there is also Omega Boost, another mecha action game, just volleys and volleys of missile firing and dodging.

Mechwarrior Mercenaries was awesome. The graphics were a little flat by today's standards, but Microsoft had really perfected the simulation part of it. I don't think there has been a better mech piloting game since as far as the piloting part of it goes. The customizing section was well done also in the way it balanced mech size with available guns, sizes and missile types. I used to play this online for hours everyday.

• Metal Warriors SNES, side scroller. Sequel to Cybernator. Same type of game with some extra abilities.
• Metal Tech Win 95, MSDOS. Simulator. It was a fun Mecha simulator. Graphics are a bit dated. It was pretty much the Skynet concept except instead of Robotic Skeletons they were giant mechs. I need to find more modern simulators.

Michael Wilson for President. This was a japan only game but he has my vote. The game is about the President of the US going on a rampage in a mech.

For me Mechwarrior 2 did it best first. Despite the derision it gets today for "making Battlemechs slow" it really captured the feeling of piloting a giant mechanical beast.
For another mecha game that was clearly inspired by anime but was not anime, I second Otaru Ikari on his Omega Boost recommendation. Yes, it was repetitive but it got the dizzying Macross feeling down right!
Right now I have a thumbs up and thumbs down. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm kind of a Gundam sleeper. I know a crappy game when I see one, but can't help buying the Gundam games just to have them in my collection. With the PS3, I have Gundam Crossfire... which follows in the Mechwarrior2 footsteps by making MS's slow as hell. And unfortunately, as it is a 3rd-person mecha combat game, it kind of sucks. The other Gundam outing available in NorthAmerica is Dynasty Warriors Gundam... which is very amusing. It takes the running 3D beat-em-up play of DW but subs in Gundams where you expect to see legendary ancient Chinese warriors. It's just... funny. And as far as button-mashing goes, the Gundam tie-in breaths a bit of fresh air into the DW franchise.

I loved Tech Romancer. Such a great game, though some of the bosses were just frustratingly, annoyingly, cheap.
Another one: Phantom Crash, for xbox. Sort of Japanese pop culture meets Mechwarrior. Kind of fun, very action-sim-y, but the plot left me snoring and I ended up giving up on it.
On the PC, from the same era as Mechwarrior 2 were the Earthsiege and Starsiege games, which played and were set up much the same way (Simulations) but had lots of fun technology you could play with (Electron Flux Whips were a particular favorite), and in my mind a better damage modeling system.

I used to have the Gundam fighting game. It was slightly too shallow for my taste. Once you beat it a few times it old cause al the buttons do the same types of move for everyone.
I think the next Capcom vs (fighting game) will have mecha in it.

i could never figure out my Gundam Super Famicon games. But i love the Turbo Grafx and Sega shooters with robots, like Gairaes and Musha and Aleste, etc. I always wondered if those games had Animes they were designed after, or visa-versa.

Here are some the Robot games I have for various systems. All the money I've spent on imports. Right now I'm playing Super Robot Taisen A for the PSPIt has Voltes and Daimos together along with Combattler. I can't read anything but the game fun. I just love figuring out the menu commands and watching all the attack sequences of all my favorite anime robot shows. I also was playing Macross VFX 2 and DYRL Macross both converted Ps1 iso I put on my PSP but the DYRL wouldn't work right and I'll be stuck flying with nothing to shoot at forever. In my SNES emulator I have Macross Scramble Valkyrie, a side scrolling shooter game. I don't play it much because it glitches and sometimes runs slow on the PSP. On The NDS I'm playing SD Gundam G Generation, Gundam 00 and Super Robot Taisen W because it has Go Lion (Voltron) in the line up. Ps2 games I used to play but sometimes bust them out for nostalgia are Transformers Tatakai. It had bad english dubs but had most of the Generation 1 and 1986 animated movie characters in it. The modeling looks dated but it was fun to a point. Got repetitive in the kicking and puching. I have to admit the Armada game is a better game. I also had my share of Gundam games like Seed and G-Savior. Another game that was like a SRW but didn't play like one was Real Robot Regiment. It had the big guys like Mazinger, Combattler and even Daimos. It was more of an adventure game where you had a 3 man team and blast your way through the enemy using all the signature moves. I love using the Double Blizzard and chop of Daimos. Macross is a fun shooter game. You can choose TV story or Do You Remember Love Movie campaigns. Don't get this mixed up with the Robotech Battlecry game. Battle Assault 3 featuring Gundam Seed. Gundam fighting game that had many mechs from the different series. I still have Part 1 and 2 for the PS1 and the US Battle Assault. This one was cool because it didn't have generic pilots like the import one did. Choukou Senki Kikaioh. I love this game for the Dreamcast. It's like Street Fighter with parody versions of Super Robots. I thought it would never come out in the US but then Tech Romancer hit our shores. Another Capcom game with Street Fighter mechs I have was Cyberbots. Not as good in moves and character selection as Kikaioh, but still fun to play. Gundam Side Story 0079 was a good mech sim. It was cool being a grunt and not an all powerful Gundam. Macross M3 a 3D mech shooter game had Max and Millia (Miriya) as the main characters along with some Zentradi teen they adopt and she's gifted with Ace piloting skills too. N64- I still have one with only one game, Super Robot Spirits! This is one of my all time favorite games. It's fighting game which has Super Robots and Real Robots going at it like Street Fighter. I love using Voltes V and the V Slice finisher move. Wii- I have two games Gundam 0079 and SD Gundam Scad Hammers. Using the Wii controller to control the beam saber is really fun. I can't wait for the new Macross game to come out for the PSP. ;D

RAD is a difficult game. It gives you the feeling that you are controlling Tetsujin 28. The rocker buttons are the control for the arms and legs, if memory serves.

RAD is pretty tricky to get a handle on. The shoulder buttons each control a leg, the analog sticks each control an arm, and you can adjust the waist using the D-pad. The biggest hurdle (and appeal, for that matter) is the perspective, because you'll always be from the point of view of a bystander, whether on top of a building or at street/foot level. Lining up a rocket punch is tricky business, and you can't help but go "ahhnooooooooo!" when you see it flying too far left to smash through one of your sponsor's corporate offices, who then dock your funding.
One I had forgotten: • Robotech: Battlecry • Released on xbox, cube, and ps2 respectively, 3rd person action. Yes, it's the loathed Robotech instead of macross, but it's still digital Valkyrie piloting action. It's hella hard, too, so those who enjoy failing escort and defense missions over and over again will get a kick out of it.

Slave Zero Dreamcast, 3rd person action. Just a cool mecha game. Get to smash some building and stop people as well as fighter other cool robots.
