Yes, it's one of the best EVA figures. I think it totally blows the Revoltechs away. Only nit-pick I have is the aesthetic of the hips/crotch area. Everything else is great.

i will almost go as far to say as it is one of the best engineered action figure to date (where price is considered). Its capable of many action poses that about 95% of the figures out there just cannot do and that includes the revoltech version! The only figure i need to compare it to is the SCM EX version which i have on the way to me maybe by next week. but i was very impressed with this figure. of course it doesnt balance as well due to the smaller but more accurate feet, but damn can you get in into some interesting positions.
The leg mechanic is pretty unslightly though as you mentinoned cakefist, revoltech has it beat on looks but overall its the RD version all the way!! oh and the leg wont snap off as soon as you try to move it (though i did manage to take mine off (whilst performing a split of sorts lol) but it snaps right back into place lol)

Thats amazing! Seeing how you kept on complaining about the market being oversaturated with Eva toys and figures, this comes as a surprise that you actually enjoyed this Robot Damashi Unit 02 so much. I was initially on the fence about getting this figure since i have all the previous Revoltech incarnations of the Eva, but now that i look at it this thing does seem to have the Revoltech version beat on poseability. A few questions i have for you though mechmasterj. Question 1:The unit uses ABS plastic primarily. This is kind of both a plus and minus for me. A minus because Bandai didnt bother to use much paint over the toy and thus i am a bit worried that its a bit cheap looking. With some plastic ABS limbs or fins being semi-transparent? Question 2:But since the figure is made of ABS plastic here I assume the Damashi version of Unit 02 is more durable than the Revoltech version? Is it also heavier too? Question 3:You said there were issues with having the figure stand up by itself? Is it as top heavy as the Unit 02 Revoltech? Question 4:How are the joints? One of my primary concerns with Robot Damashi was the fear of the joints getting loose....very loose over time after playing with a figure for months, to years..... Something i'd never have to fear with revoltech figures. Do you foresee your Unit 02 Robot Damashi figure getting loose joints anytime soon? Question 5: How does this Robot Damashi Unit 02 compare with the Revoltech evas scale wise? I've never seen a detailed toy review that compares the two different evas, issued by two different toy companies. A By the way....accessories also look bad ass. I want that Lightning lance the gun with the bayonet on the end. Heh heh heh. Would be great if you could answer these questions Mechmasterj. If all goes well i might just consider ordering this new Unit 02, 01 and 00. Oh yeah....Unit 00 even comes with that crazy N2 rocket from the movie? Awesome! ;D

LOl I know i talk a lot of ishh huh lol but even though i am tired of eva i cant turn down a good engineered toy.... in the end i may sell off my revol eva..... But actually, i am more upset that eva took a slot for a character that deserves some sort of representation ( or cheaper in the case of SRW!!) still i am a sucker for cool highly articulated toys...... so i just had to give it a shot!
I am planning on doing a fool review but ill answer your questions now!
1: Its a mix of ABS and PVC and its heavy on the PVC, very few parts are ABS actually and yeah they are abit transparent if you hold it up to the light. In terms of paint ap, the figure does not look cheap and is accurately detailed and painted, however, Revoltech version does have it beat here as RV has that beautiful metallic coat and RD has matte/flat coat, but its well painted none the less.
2: Yes it is heavier but not so much that it affects its balance. Hes more durable then the RV especially since my RV 02 broke a leg as soon as i tried to rotate it. RD leg can come off but you wont need super glue to put it back on lol.
3: My issues lie in the feet not so much the figures overall balance. You can get him to stand fine but not as easy as the RV version due to the smaller (more accurate) feet. So you have to spend a bit of time balancing the figure since he doesn't have the huge duck feet of the RV.
4: Well i dont know how much you play with your toys but I dont do much to them beyond my initial posing (as you can see i do a lot in my reviews) and I have never experienced any loose joints. Thats not to say that it can happen (I have bought revoltechs off of others that had loose joints) but it hasnt happened yet. The joints are very tight and sturdy and supports the figure just about every position you can think of, no problem with holding various weapons either (he can use revoltech weapons too). So i cant say that it wont become loose, but i have yet to experience such a problem.
5: RD is a full inch bigger then RV! however, RV has a more sleeker sculpt, its much sharper then RD, but RD is a lot more "user friendly." He can also get to those hard to reach places that RV just cant touch.....
As for that Lighting lance, Im a bit disappointed with that. the bayonet should be able to flip out like a switch blade, but its fixed. Its more annoying because the gun has the hinge molded as well as a slot for it to fold back into the gun.... but bandai decided to leave that option out ...... not sure why. Other then that, I really think you should get it. Hopefully ill have my detailed review up this weekend.
Another thing to note is that the this figure is more of a cross between SHFiguarts and Robot Damashii and something else in its own right, it seems to borrow from SHF the most though, but no diecast. ...... one more thing...... dont forget about the SCM EX eva's too...... i have some on hold for me so i have yet to compare them which im pretty excited to do so.

Thanks for replying to my long winded questions mechamasterj. I certainly appreciated the time you took to go out of your way to do it.
Well your own critique of the figure sure helped me. I guess i should try out the Robot Damashi version. Now about 65-70% sure that i should get this. Hmm. If the Damashi Unit 02 is larger than the Revoltech version.....would that mean then the Lightning lance with bayonet would be too large for the Revoltech version to hold in its hands?
Hmm...i'll probably get the Unit 01 Robot Damashi just for the large AT field lol.

No prob sachiel one thing i love doing is giving reviews and helping people out when i can, thats what RJ is all about right!!?
yes if your a fan of eva you wont be disappointed and even if your not a fan, its a very cool figure with very real human aesthetics!!
So far I have tried the rV katana's with RD 02 and they work well, the guns work too but the are smaller (another note, RV weapons are more detailed then RD) you really cant go the other way because RV hands are too small........ youll see in my review lol

Guess the Robot Damashi weapons are molded too large near the handles for the Revoltech figure to hold it..... Aw.....looks like the Revoltech Unit 02 will continue to be Lightning lance-less..... Meanwhile i cant wait for your review with in-depth photos and comparisons with the Revoltech and Robot Damashii versions of Unit 02. Looking forward to it! ;D LOL. And yes i am a big Eva fan. I watch the blu ray over and over again. I collect the figures. I visit Eva-centric discussion boards. I even bought that huge Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 artbook that comes with a film strip. LOL. And yeah im going to pre-order the Eva 2.22 blu ray soon. Import FTW!

Picked up the Robot Damashii KMF Shen-Hu and VF Queadluun Rea the other day - fantastic figures!
Every day I offer up a prayer that Bandai incorporates the SRW: OG franchise into the Robot Damashii line. that would truly be glorious.
