I have to second everything Magengar said, this is truly amazing steel fabrication, concept, abilities, overall blown away by this project.... Curious are you self taught, and what would be the basic advice for someone who wanted to break into this field, most simple foundation if you will, on a much simpler project? Like for example what was one of the first thing you built, a gun perhaps? I saw the main article on this on the main page, as many have forum page saved in favs, and they miss out on all the great articles and OTHER categories on the home page.. Books on subject perhaps, maybe you should write one, I would buy it? I imagine gettting the tools and work space would be the key foundation to ever consider such an endeavour.... You know we have all probably watched the bike building shows like OC choppers, I imagine what you do is not very different at all from what they build, you just obvioulsy build robots as oppossed to cycles?

Lastly, I think the word "creative genius" is fitting here, and has the military secret weapons developement department contacted you yet with a job contract? That thing looks like it is ready to roll of the assembly line in mass production of a future robot army, lol.... Anatomically speaking of its ability to walk, if it had the computer programing, I believe it would bust right of of that nice custom case, open a can of whip a-- on somebody. Good thing it is not connected to SKYNET!!!!

You know we have all probably watched the bike building shows like OC choppers, I imagine what you do is not very different at all from what they build, you just obvioulsy build robots as oppossed to cycles? I started making radio control monster truck chassis when i was about 22 and then moved into custom airsoft guns about 2 years later. the chassis and first gun were made using just basic hand tools like hacksaw, files, pilar drill and a vice. Then I started to get a bit more complex and bought a little micro mill and made the other 3 guns. From there I have since bought a little lathe and been making parts for people over the last couple of years mainly for airsoft guns and rc vehicles. all the trucks can be found here www.ukmonsters.co.ukall the guns can be found here www.ukmonsters.co.uk/oldmadwebspace/WA2000%20Build%20pics/wa2000.htmskills/experience, as I have said before I dont have any training in engineering, I was not taught how to use the machines I have. When I was little my fav toy was technic lego, i'd build new things out of what I had almost daily. Then the radio controlled stuff, I used to make odd bits and pieces, nothing very adventurous. After wandering around on the internet trying to find that first gun I wanted to buy I found a website of a chap who had made his own out of wood and I remeber thinking it was ok but after going through his build pictures I could see lots of corners that had been cut. It suddenly occured to me that if I tried to make it BUT made each piece perfect, not as good as I could but perfect then it couldnt look anything but perfect. Its hard to explain, this was like a vision for me I was about 23 and all of a suddon it just made sense. I imagined building the first gun piece by piece, first I made the bulk of it in cardboard. Now this in itself can be done to look good or bad. I measured every dimension, scored every fold, allowed for the thickness of the cardboard, made all the corners 90 degrees and it looked good. The metal was just an extension of that, start with one piece and make it as good as it needed to be. Back then I didnt have anything more complex than a hacksaw, vice and pilar drill. It made things slow but the project I had chosen was fairly simple in its shape. The robot is a long way from that, but it had still been made by men. So if I copied each piece it should look the same. The amount of pictures I have are essential on a model this complex, then it just comes down to guessing the dimensions which I seem to have a knack for. I dont think I can answer your question, I am able to do these things and I dont know why. Tools I have now are a Sieg X1 milling machine (£300) a C2a lathe (£350) lots of cutters and 2 vices (£200). then the basics vice, hacksaw, pilar drill, drills, taps and dies, files (about 30!) digital calipers. these are the 2 machines, mill and lathe.

No you answered all my questions very well, thanks that is great info. I haven't taken the time yet to go back and read all 18 pages of this thread, but I plan to. Your picture taking is so good, that you really don't need many words to describe what is being done in each step, as the way you listed the pictures, they tell the story and order of construction I noticed. One could learn a countless amount of info, just by studing the pictures. But, to be able to apply different story. Truly a gift you have their my friend, well done and I know I for one, can't wait to see what you come up with next.... By the way, the robot you picked was the best part of the Robocop series IMO. Was it not the mad scientist who had his brain put in that robot frame you built in the final film, seems like anyway if memory serves me correct, been a long time since I saw those films?

Awesome job! The next project should be the Mark 13 from the movie Hardware, I think you could really do a great job with that one.

Candyman, This thread is my favorite thread ever by far. If you ever want to sell this build please contact me. As far as I am concerned this Robocain belongs in a museum. Simply amazing. I feel like we should be giving you an award or something............

I was just stopping by..... Can't get enough of that Robocain. And... .....O M G!!!..... Those monster truck chassies are the Wickedest! I love their "tribal" shapes and asymetories... the frames remind me of them "Scorpion" knives I see at sword gift shops in my area. Fken AWESOME! And those guns!!! I like that one thick-barreled pistol there (silver barrel with the brown wood hand-grip)... ...it reminds me of the guns from Mazinkaiser SKL's chestplates. Bro, is there Anything you Can't machine-shop-create? You are Phenomenal!!! zozo-Magengar

WOW, that was an amazing amount of machining work and geometry to keep all the parts in scale and fitting together.
INCREDIBLE !!!
