Guys, Perhaps you wonder why UFO Robo Grendizer is still considered the #1 anime in the Middle East till our day! Let me tell you that our Arabic language played a very important role in the magnification of this work. The Lebanese voice actors (specially Gehad El-Atrash who played Duke Fleed's voice) did a wonderful job in this show. I have seen the original Japanese version...the Japanese Duke Fleed's voice is a shame for such an epic. Now, thanks to our friend Wasim A. Wasim?! Yeah, I remember him, he was a true fanatic of Grendizer! I still remeber the huge argument about who would win in a fight between Mazinkaiser & Grendizer. Ha, ha... He truly came up with a lot of crazy stuff to defend his point that Grendizer would win. I think he even made a website just for that!
It was great getting him all fussed up back then!!!

In the clip above, there is no mono/dialogue (not to confuse anybody)...just a name and a sound of crying! Judge yourself which voice performance is the best: 1. Japanese (Kei Tomiyama) 2. French (Daniel Gall) 3. Arabic (Gehad Al-Atrash)  |

I like the original japanese voice better. The arabic one has the same deep tone as the Cuban voiceover for Koji Kabuto in Mazinger Z. Too deep for these young pilots. It is still better than the Bart Simpson voiceover they used for Koji in the Mazinger Z's Spain voiceover...!

Personally I always liked the voice actor for the Force Five episodes followed by the voice actor for the SRW games and then the original Japanese voice actor.

 I love that scene ... it always give me chills hearing daisuki (in Arabic voice) crying over Robina and end up usually crying with him!! eh ... man that anime have special charm well ... I understand that you guys didn't like the voice daisuke in the Arabic ver. but honestly to Arabs and middle eastern people .. this is what define a perfect voice for a Nobel young man!! it charming ,clear , clean just plain beautiful. actually that scene doesn't give Mr. jihad what he deserves in respect because it was all crying and screaming. his voice to us is better than a poet reading poems to audience! I am serious. jihad also used to make up sentences during the fights that sounded just amazing ! like shouting : curse the invaders..!! ah sweet plus the Arabic version respected all the name of the characters and the machines and the enban jue.

i think there just fine with me although i prefer the force five, is the one i grew up with it XD. although one thing is for sure the french one sounds a bit plain for me, like it had no soul to it.

Just a voice of a guy in the late 20's - early 30's...which suits Duke Fleed age perfectly in addition to the advantages I listed before. I have seen all the UFO Robo Grendizer versions...the Japanese is definitely the worse (too much sharp + weak voice)...and I find the Arabic one the best -not because I am Arabian- as for example the Arabic version of Mazinger Z is not good enough, IMO. Again, I chose the clip above because there is no conversation in it...but if you want to listen to the real Duke Fleed, just checkout the playlist on top of page. So true  In our Arab World "Spin Saucer" (al-Sahno al-Dawaaar), "Double Harken" (al-Razzatu al-Muzdawaja) and "Space Thunder" (Ra'aadu al-Fada'aa) are still ringing in our ears through all these years because of Gehad Al-Atrash's incredible voice and the way he used to say this! |

Let's try not to get TOO emotional about it, it's just a matter of preference. For instance I could never imagine anyone other than Akira Kamiya as Ryoma Nagare from Getter Robo since I love the tone and power he puts into his voice work. For me he is the definitive voice of a Super Robot pilot while others can't stand his "over acting" which is fine it's a free world we're all aloud to have opinions.

Yeah ... I am with chen on this ... it is really a matter of preference and what an individual is used to ! Dammage 7 was just trying to put you in the picture of how magnificent was Jihad's (Arabic daisuki ver.) was. and I love akira kameya in ryoma nagare !! his getter tomahawk and (gettaaaa beeeeeaaaammmma ) is just un matchable. plus I love daisuki's voice in the super robot wars games (it reminds me of the Arabic version ) fun fact: what makes the Arabic voice for daisuki so special that the guy who did it was a great actor ... but after doing daisuki he didn't work in dubbing any more!! which makes his voice sacred only for daisuki!! isn't that awesome? ;D |

I've never been too much into who the voice-actors are for Any version of whatever anime... for me, as long as the tone and delivery sound convincing, I'm cool with it. I do have to admit: the Japanese actor for Koji (in the Toei version original Mazinger-Z series) sounds kinda elderly, sometimes... in some episodes, he sounds even older than Tetsuya (Great Maz series). I never liked the high-pitched Spanish voice-over for Koji (who was That guy, or girl, or Kid?). I did enjoy the other Lower-toned Spanish voice-over (Mexican actor Jesus Barrero?) much more. It was made the dialog sound more like a Spanish soap-opera, which convinced me much better. The one voice-over actor who Really sticks to my head is America's Top 40 host Kasey Kasem; he did the voice of "Mark" in the US version of Gatchaman (Battle Of The Planets). I thought he did a wonderful job for that series in its time. But then, again, I was too entertained with animes to worry about who's voice sounds better in whatever series. So I really won't hold that up to debate. Just my personal opinion. Back on Topic... lately I've been seeing more pics of the Mazinger figures, especially the new Maz SRC line, posed with robots from other toy lines... ...Although the group line ups of toylines are mix-matched, at least they give a roughly better visual idea of the robots' scale sizes. But let's not forget that these are just visual renditions up to one's imagination of how the robots would appear, more or less, in reality; not set in stone. zozo-Magengar |

Yes, the SRCs are scaled at 14cm. What I meant was seeing pictures posted here of super-robot figures from various toylines posed together or photographed in groups. Like: an SRC Mazinger-Z, posed beside an SOC Great Mazinger,
posed beside an Aoshima Mazinkaiser.Or: SRC Mazinger-Z, beside SOC Great Mazinger, beside
an SOC or a Marmit Gokin Grendizer... etc, etc... ...you get the physical idea. This seems like a hypothetical example, but it's the best way I can describe what I see; and it gives Me a visual idea of how these three robots would look if they existed standing beside one another in real life. Off topic: - In Egypt, Astroganga, Grendizer, Mazinger Z and Transformers are the most known super robots as they have been on our TV networks (also, Gundam but not so popular). Anyway, last night I was so happy to see that there are t-shirts for sale with Grendizer prints on 'em at one of our biggest malls The show hasn't been on our TV since years 'n years but it's still remembered! |

Yup it comes from that bust below (if you can call it bust)... Well, they remember Astroganga too but for Grendizer it has been always unique to the Arab World! Ahhh, mentioning Transformers, I saw also last night, a GREAT action figure for Optimus Prime! The real deal...but expensive [about $145 USD].  |

That's a cool head bust of Grendizer,
with his electronic insides partially exposed.
I don't think I've ever seen either one of the
Mazingers's heads sculpted that way;
I would have to make lotsa room on my shelf
for that Grendizer head because of his horns.
His display base is really nice, too.
