Thanks for the reply Mechanical Flesh. I haven't read Ota's version yet. I have a few volumes of Nagai's work from different years of publication. I'm confused on which is the original or true ending. Is it the one where Mazinger fights King Hell Gordon? How does Ota's version end? In Ota's version, after the major battle between Koji and Dr. Hell, Koji is severely injured so his father turns him into a cyborg to save his life. After he reunites with Sayaka, the two travel to America and Tetsuya takes on the matle of "defender of the world" with Great Mazinger. It's probably quite similar to Nagai's ending (I'm assuming) but I don't think Nagai turned Koji into a cyborg at the end.

I really have to read Ota's Mazinger. In Nagai's endings, after the fight with King Hell Gordon, Koji comes out relatively ok. Mazinger is badly damaged (all that was left in one piece was the head and torso) but apparently because of Juzo Kabuto's brilliant engineering and alloy z, Mazinger is still serviceable. In another version, the one without King Hell, Mazinger gets out with only a few scratches and dings. I dont know which ending is canon.

Wasn't it yellow for Gataiger? Or am I misremembering that? I think the only place I ever saw that in color was the HLPro Gataiger box?

For Gattaiger the helmet was blue, so I have no idea why they would make it yellow unless it's from a manga cover or just because they want to.

So in that Tamashii video where they showed off the GX-70, I learned that the Mazinger Z vs Ankoku Daishogun movie hit the theaters three whole months before the TV series actually ended.
It's actually kind of weird to think about because it's easier to just assume the movie is a more pumped up version of the TV finale - but at the same time not really, because they did the same thing with Galaxy Express 999, and in both cases, the TV finale more or less suffered because of it because they couldn't just do the same thing again.

Bumping this thread for a change.
I was just watching episode 38 of Mazinger Z, the one where Minerva X appears, and I swear the music that plays when she's hit with an arrow is the same as the opening credits for the first part of the 1966 Russian film adaptation of War & Peace - unfortunately IMDB has no data for the music in that film so I can't determine whether it's a classical composition or if they actually use the music from the film.

In the UFO Robo Grendizer anime, Duke Fleed's space helmet was yellow and sometimes white. Mostly, it was --and should be yellow.

Didn't know where else to post this, but I just realized, this is the first time since I got Aphrodite A that I actually have the whole gang together, so I had to take a picture.

Such photos could be posted on robotjapan.proboards.com/thread/7300/omni-existence-toys-action-thread and, if you can add Great Mazinger, Venus A and Robot Junior, then, a Grendizer in the middle...that would be AWESOME!

I might - but I might also supplant Aphrodite with Diana for such a group shot.

Sometimes it's a yellowish white, but most of the time it's an off-white ivory color. It's that way on my DVD set and most of the official art that come up on Google. The clips on Youtube tell the same story : Yes, you can probably find a few frames where it's a more saturated yellow, but it's FAR less frequent. Ivory mask in Super Robot Wars too :

I think it only appears yellow in the anime because the old film stock doesn't reproduce colours as accurately as it used to - indeed, I've seen a lot of old anime having a slight reddish yellow tint, giving it an almost sunburned look.
And as for SRW, well, they obviously just used screenshots from the anime for the mugshots.
