With all my respect to my fellow Arabs, you should stop calling Grendizer "Greendizer;" "Ghrendizer;" and "Qrendizer!"
He has only one name and that's "GRENDIZER." Thank you.

But in Italy they call it Goldrake, and in France Goldorak, and it is pretty much their favorite Go Nagai creation. Not like here in the USA where they called Mazinger/Great Mazinger as Tranzor Z, and nobody gave a damn about the show (thank God)!

We have the Holy Qur'aan in 1 Arabic language, and messing with the letters and replacing 'em is just silly and pointless. If an Arab country changes the name of Grendizer into Ahmedizer, Mazindizer or Kingizer... I have no problem with that, but modifying the letters and spelling 'em wrong while they actually mean to call him Grendizer should stop now.

We're lucky to have those dynamic robot names.
Other heroes weren't treated as kindly, like in the movie "Dune" where they called the hero as "the Qzod Sadrach". ;D

The Grandizer word i seen it and heard it before here in Puerto Rico, we use to call Grendizer as Grandizer as well in Spanish because the word "Gren" was an abbreviation and altered form of the word "Great" that possible Go Nagai used for. he might abbreviated as Gren because there was already Great Mazinger using that so it would be awkward having Grendizer been called Greatdizer or having 2 robots called "Great" as there starting name. another theory of the word Gren where it came from is that Go Nagai could have use it from the word Grenade.
at least calling Grendizer as Grandizer is far more better than what the american translation did to Mazinger Z/ Great Mazinger calling them Tranzor Z.
that was terrible.

I never understood why the US versions of Go Nagai stuff went through so many needless changes from the originals.. The US Verson of "Getter Robo G" is totally unwatchable... and why did Mattel change "Getter Liger" to "Raider?? Mattel did a good job of keeping it close with "Great Mazinga", thats an awsome name, I wonder whos lame brain idea it was to change it to "Tranzor Z"?.. how is "Tranzor" more marketable than the name "Mazinga Z"?
I just dont know why the US never brought over the full leanth original versions of these shows... was it bc the girl from Getter G had metal nipples on her uniform?.. maybe because the female robots from Mazinger shot thier tits off??

The name Grendizer was inspired by Grendal from Beowulf, which also inspired the demon/Viking looking horns and his unique "evil" looking weapons. Just the same ad how Mazinger got its name, a combination of Ma and Jin.

im not even sure Grendizer's name was base from Grendel from Beowulf, the description of Grendel doesn't mention anything about horns of any kind on him nor Grendel use any weapons at all so it would be kinda out of place in a way.
but everything is possible, GoNagai makes weird stuff and makes them awesome.

It was more about just finding a cool monster name, the Mazinger family has always had that "demonic" connection with the whole power of a God thing to fighting underworld monsters and stuff. So take a name, give the robot giant "devil horns" and a weapon that looks like the grim reapers sickle on steroroids lol and there you go. Even in the story Grendizer is suppose to be inspired by the Fleedian God of War so its always had that dark side. But yeah Nagai did have a lot of influences and the ideas he came out with are impossible to know how he came up with them. Pure genius.

Interesting. Nagai has indeed drawn some influences from Greek mythology, especially for the Mazinger robots. Then he went for the "viking" and "barbarian" style, combined with a little bit of "John Woo" gun-slinging in the Mazinkaiser SKL oav flicks. zozo-mag It was more about just finding a cool monster name, the Mazinger family has always had that "demonic" connection with the whole power of a God thing to fighting underworld monsters and stuff.
