Note regarding different SR eras appearances: I find Great Mazinger always a cameo as a supporter actor outside his own show, while Grendizer as a lead actor inside or outside his own show - right? Classics: [Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, UFO Robo Grendizer, Getter Robo/G and Kotetsu Jeeg] Moderns: [Great Mazinger, UFO Robo Grendizer, Shin Getter Robo, Mazinkaiser and Kotetsushin Jeeg]. Your forgetting Psycho armor Govarian in the classics..

Apparently, the Top 5 are re-represented on the new Robot Girls Z, with 5 girls portraying Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Getter Robo and Kotetsu Jeeg. See the attached image. The 5 Nagai creations on your right hand side. Gaiking is famous too and might would have been inc. among Nagai top 5 but you know the legal fights about it between Nagai and Toei Animation...

Coming on DVD April 29th 2014. Japanese language, English subtitles. I have only watched the series in spanish and I really looking forward to see this in Japanese. That's good news! Hopefully the English subtitles will be readable and understandable. Now the question is: How good are the English subs... are they good as far as the Grammar and punctuation is concerned? Or will the subs look anything like that crappy Hong-Kong DVDrip that permeated the internet a few years ago? I've got my own English subbed version which I worked on for five months almost two summers ago, translated from the original Spanish subs. Word for word I tried my best to stick close to the anime; and all the character names remain intact. My subs were later used for the HD fansub project "Edición Fotoatómico" which was shared online a couple years ago, but not many people were interested in it because it was >multi-language sub/audio set >most folks thought it was just a Spanish project >the box set was way too large to download entirely (16gb) >and it was heavily bloated with all sorts of Extras which were really unnecessary and made the download time painfully longer, thus corrupting some files during the download process. I admire the way that project looks (superb video/audio quality). But if I were to release my own version, I would just release the anime series by itself -- no bullsh*t Extras and no unnecessary stoOopid junk. Here's a sample of my English subtitles, for the OVA movie MZvsAnkoku...... ........Back on topic. I would still buy this new DVD set, because I like the artwork on the cover, and the quality will be much better than the old videos I have. Thanks for the good news! zozo-mag

Distocotek Media usually does a good Job with subtitles so I hope this release gets a good job in that department, but like you I am still getting it regardless, the video quality must be a good upgrade compared to what we have right now.

Thanks, SuperChogokinZ! That 45-minute Maz OVA was a headache by itself with trying to have the translation AND grammar fit into synchronization with the time codes for the duration of the character's voices. After careful proof-reading and checking for errors, I was sure there were no flaws, and so I hard-subbed it so that I wouldn't lose my subs! lol As for all 92 episodes of the series... man, THAT was five months of work every day and night during my time off from my day-job, gruesome tedious work, lots of coffee, and ash trays filled with MOUNTAINS of cigarette butts as I worked on it. Then having to proof-read the subs for each episode and checking for spelling and grammar. I still find some spelling errors to this day. But I can't RELAX to even watch the series past the first few episodes; because in my mind I'm thinking I am "still working on it". Call it "post traumatic syndrome". My series subtitle version did go to the extreme with foul language... I figured if I was gonna do all the episodes, I should just go nuts with it. And I did. So, I'll keep an 'adult' version for now. Later I will go back and edit the foul language so that I can have an "all ages" version. That way kids can also enjoy it without all the bad language. lol As for this new DVD set by Discotek Media, I believe it would be a very good video quality. Either high-definition or Bluray. That's the media format everyone is watching these days. Even the fan-sub groups have been sharing their stuff in HD or Bluray these days... they no longer use any of that old DivX AVI compression stuff from the past. zozo-mag

Latest chapter of SMZ vs AK has Great Mazinger unlocking its evolution by docking with Great Booster to become Great Mazinkaiser. I started reading that particular manga, but it really got just too weird for me. I stopped reading it after a "beaten and 75% destroyed" Shin Mazinger Zero just suddenly regenerated on its own, and stopped Ankoku Daishogun's ultimate sword slash with its thumb and index finger. That was pretty much it for me... }|
