Decided to revive a project yesterday. I had plans to make a popy version Grendizer chest piece to fit onto the mattel version, but when the mattel chest was the same size or slightly larger, I didn't pursue it any further at that time. Well, I am starting to look that over again and may have something in the next month or so. I will be doing a few weeks of work travel soon and won't have much free time. Here is the page I started on it. www.teambac.com/shogun_warriors/Chest_Piece_Mattel.html

Been traveling this last week for work, but I brought along some mold making supplies and resin.
HERE is the new, custom part for the mattel version Grendizer to apply onto the chest. When I get home (in another week), I will shoot some photos of it on the mattel Shogun.
With my custom left fist for the mattel version Grendizer and now this piece, the mattel shogun is getting closer to the popy looking version.
Yes, I know, "need the lower legs" yet. Not sure if I will ever go that far for reproduction.

I need to upgrade my Mattel Goldorak one day to try to get a boxed one and if I'm able to do that, I will clearly customize the one I have right now with all your custom parts. Love the idea and can imagine the change of look it can give. Nice work.

I'm real curious to see how this looks on the Mattel version. Since you made this, any thought to an "athletic supporter cup" instead of a sticker?

That chest piece looks awesome, and I like how it's hollowed like that (the back side) as opposed to a solid mass of material: it shows you used the material sparingly, and achieved a great result for that custom part. zozo-mag

The hollow part on the backside is just to fit over the mattel chest part. It does use a decent amount of plastic resin as trying to make the rest hollow and not have air bubbles or bad spots with how the mold was built, just wasn't practical. So, I am using right around 55 to 60ml of total resin
On the popy Grendizer chest piece I made for its restoration, it is hollow as that part didn't have any thin walls that required any filling. With that part, I believe I used around 40 to 50ml of resin to make it. Otherwise, would been around 100ml or more, for a fill.
Thanks for all the compliments, guys. I will get a photo of it installed when I can and start making it available to anyone that would want one.

And I am now really starting to consider about making molds of the popy Grendizer legs to make a close upgrade package for the mattel version. This Grendy may have to live without the larger, and tilting back head though.
Oh, and the above is just press fit onto the chest. I didn't glue it on, but if moving around somewhat, I would use a small amount of shoe goo on the edges to hold it in place for sure.

I think it looks cool, but I know not everyone will be in the same boat for changing an old toy's look. But, I do believe the cheapened up Goldorak is an exception for wanting it to look more like the popy cousin.
And you can always take it off, if one wanted to later on.
And, yes, MODIFY !!!!!!
