Nice! I wish my mom didn't get rid of my Castle of Lions. I could do without the Panosh Place lions and pilots as they haven't aged well, and we obviously have better versions now, but they just don't make playsets like that anymore.

Now that Matty is doing a castle Greyskull playset maybe they will do something for Voltron too! I miss 80's playsets!!

Something I left out of my initial review that I want to point out is Voltron's knees. They move only one ratchet backwards, and it's not even a big ratchet. We're talking maybe 15 degrees of movement. They bend forwards almost a full 90 degrees though. What the hell Mattel!? They did the same thing with the pilots. Do the people working on this line not get the simple principle that knees are supposed to bend BACKWARDS? Now that Matty is doing a castle Greyskull playset maybe they will do something for Voltron too! I miss 80's playsets!! Considering they aren't even gonna make any additional figures I'd say there's a snowball's chance in hell of us getting a Castle of Lions from them.

Picked up my Black Lion today and finally formed Voltron... TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!! ;D I did have the Yellow Lion front left leg springing open issue, but I already fixed that (gotta love those clear rubber bands the lions come with)! ;D The Voltron is impressive and so cool! An excellent action figure! Very proportionate too! The pictures floating around really don't do it justice. I'm very happy I got it! }D

Wow great pictures. Was he stable in those poses??

As stable as it can get. ;D I set it on top of a glass picture frame just in case, but it stayed up all by itself. About the 15 degree leg movement springloaded mentioned above, I tried turning the thigh around 180 degrees but the way the leg folds and the shape of the comparments in the Blue and Yellow Lions don't allow for it to go in backwards. A shame because that would've fixed the limited backward knee articulation issue... }D

Too many other grails I'm after, especially the DX Maz. Damn too many grails, so little time, they come along so fkn fast! Congrats to you all who have your fully-formed Voltrons; I'll slam a brewski toast for you all! zozo-mag

Wow, that eBay seller pulled a cut-throat job on you. At least he refunded your money. But then he relisted it for over double the amount you were originally paying him for it... ...looks like he's a Scalper looking to make top-dollar by taking advantage of all this excitement over the Mattel Voltron. Greed makes an eBay seller like him do such things. Hopefully this specimen will come easier later on in the aftermarket phase. zozo-mag Just as I suspected... the seller who refunded me my payment for a $99 BIN auction has one relisted and is going for $180+ now and 17 hours more to go. Oh well. I will take Mr. Xiombarg's advise. I will wait to see if I can get one when the market has settled down. And you should report hints eBay or give him negative feedback. That's sh*tty.

It really sucks how the reverse knees destroy his lower body poseability. I can maybe see the benefit of having the knees bend forward in lion mode, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have bent in both directions! I really get a sense that nobody working on this line cared in the slightest, and that nobody bothered to test anything before tooling was done. There's just so many sloppy/thoughtless/nonsensical things that should have never gotten past discussion, let alone the design phase. It's all just so haphazardly thrown together.

Or quite honestly, it was designed by somebody who doesn't entirely understand the finer dynamics of what this involves, especially at this scale. What I mean is, if this Voltron was designed by somebody who really only designs (and plays with) basic action figures, what we have here is about what I would expect. But whatever the case, it's a disappointing that it has the problems it does, because it's all due to poor engineering that would have been so easy to avoid. I just got mine last night, and there are two aspects that jump to mind. He's really big on shelf presence, and he's not stable. I think he stands ok, but things like the legs popping out on the yellow and blue lions is annoying as all freaking hell. BUT... I think I've come up with a relatively simple fix for this. I'm going to monkey around with the idea this weekend and I'll let you guys know if what I have in mind will work, but I'm pretty sure it will.

I just can't wrap my head around anyone in that business not realizing that knees need to bend BACKWARDS, and how without that POA it pretty much makes the rest of the articulation below the waist useless. For instance the legs can move a full 90 degrees, which is in theory would be great, but without proper knees the most you'll ever be able to bend the legs while still being able to keep Voltron on his feet is a single ratchet forwards, or around 23 degrees. Same goes for the outward movement. Voltron is able to do a full split, but there's no way to utilize more than one ratchet of outward movement while also keeping him stable because of the lack of knee movement. It's a colossal blunder that really hurts the toy, and SOMEONE should have caught it. It's frustrating because the rest of his legs would have allowed for some dynamic poses, and the articulation we needed is THERE, it just works in the wrong direction.

I do have to say that not even the Toynami MP Voltron was able to bend it's knees more than a couple of degrees, never even close to 90 degrees. So I can live with it having limited knee articulation as well. I'll eventually take on the springy Blue and Yellow lions legs issue, but for now rubber bands will do just fine. ;D

I certainly feel the frustration too. I checked out my replacement red lion today and found that one of the legs isn't as tight as others and that leg has a much higher tendency to give out an spring forward. In this case it wasn't a design problem but an assembly problem. It only occurred to me then why the red lion appear to demand the highest prices of the first four lions. It is because it was the first lion the factory assembled and has the most QC problem, so more people ate ordering extras to get a "good" lion.
I look forward to seeing some of the solutions our talented board members will come up with. :)

From what I've read the problem is that the leg isn't screwed down all the way, so it's not able to lock properly. One could fix this if the caps were easily removable, but I'm not about to try to pry it off and risk damaging the lion. So unless someone can come up with a way to remove the caps without damage I'm just gonna have to live with the frustration it causes.

Im not going to lie, the disappointment i had expected on this figure isnt as bad as i thought. Overall hes pretty solid, colors are very vibrant, the pilots are pretty neat, and the posability is not that bad. However this is not the best voltron figure that could have been made and we know that. The spring feature for me is avoidable except for the yellow and blue lions. Also i feel voltron needs support to be able to stand in a reasonable poses. But his size is amazing. Overall, for a voltron figure for the holidays, definitly a decent choice, but the money and the wait for a soc golion may be better.

Mine finally arrived. Despite the frustration with Mattel this is a very impressive figure!!
It's huge and vibrant and has decent pose ability for its size. The two swords are very impressive. The connections are tight. The pop out legs are still annoying.
