This new 3D printer on Kickstarter is awesome, has great resolution (100 microns), fast and cheap (USD685 assembled). The creators said they use off the shelf materials for the printer, making it easy to upgrade (increase the print height) and maintenance is also cheaper. Great potential! Deltaprintr on Kickstarter

This is a Universal Construction Kit made by the folks at the website of F.A.T. (Free Art and Technology). This kit consists of various connectors that are compatible with any Lego, Technix, or other erector type toys. The parts will come in handy if you need to combine your own custom robot parts, and/or if you're looking to explore new ways to articulate your custom action figures and vehicles. I found this item, courtesy of Makezine.com...they made this kit available for FREE as an .STL file download of all the parts, zipped in a 29mb archive. Here's the download link...media.fffff.at/free-universal-construction-kit/free-universal-construction-kit.zipThis archive includes each individual connector as an .STL file. Unless you know how to manage and manipulate .STL object files, DO NOT modify any of these connectors; that way you can avoid errors when the object's file is sent to a 3D printer service. If you want physical hard-object copies of any, some, or all of these connectors, you can just upload the .STL file per individual connector(s) to a 3D printing service such as Shapeways, QuickParts, or Ponoko... and select your material of choice, and the printer service will do the rest. ...They also offer a poster showing each individual connector explained in detail, the poster is available in two different backgrounds: Gray, and White... GRAY... media.fffff.at/free-universal-construction-kit/images/free-universal-construction-kit-poster.pdfWHITE... media.fffff.at/free-universal-construction-kit/images/free-universal-construction-kit-poster2.pdfAs to the genius and Generous notion behind this item, I highly recommend that you read the article which discusses the origin of this kit in greater detail and the Reason for them folks making this item; you'll be Very glad they did!....... fffff.at/free-universal-construction-kit/#downloadEnjoy! zozo-mag

Robox www.dynamism.com/3d-printers/robox.shtmlThis might be the new printer to beat. $1400 cost. Layer resolution of 20 microns. Filament fed, or FDM (fused deposition modelling) Thoughts - Resolution is excellent and it has some pretty cool innovations. Even though it's an FDM based system it's able to start and stop the flow of plastic using shutoff valves so that you don't have the common problem of little bumps caused by clumped together plastic. The valves also stops strings and oozing. Also has a dual wheel feed system which is nice. Where this is an FDM based machine I'm sure it's still going to need more attention to tuning in order to get really clean results, but at this price it's really worth the trouble.

I backed out of the Buccaneer 3d printer. They keep missing deadlines and dropping features. At least I get a refund. Going to pick up a davinci 1.0 tonight and start figuring things out to customize toys and make my own stuff. xyzprinting.com

I have a Davinci 1.0... don't waste your money on it. I don't know if the 2.0 is better, but the 1.0 pretty much sucks. The prints, even at 100 Microns, are still very rough. And the thing I hate the most about it, is the print bed. It doesn't get hot enough to "grab" the filament. Even when using the recommended "U-Hu Glue stick", the filament can, and will, come loose - screwing up your print job.

I did a bunch of research on the 1.0. The trick is to not use their software as intended. You can use your own gcode from slic3r and control all the temps. You can also build a device that lets you reset the carts, adjust the settings for filament and use higher quality plastic. From what I read, the stuff xyz forces you buy is mid grade and not consistent diameter. Their software doesn't have proper fill either, which is why doing your own gcode is important.
I also read they need to be downgraded as the new firmware seems to make prints worse than before. Some people are going as far as running different firmwares all together. I think stuff from the open source 3d printers.

I had a credit with shapeways and printed one of my characters there to see how it would come out. Its 2" tall. It would had been quite expensive normally. I am surprised a somewhat hollow figure would be about $25 normally.

Wow you dudes are Krankin out da goods with your prints! Shiesse, I should get back into this- I'll never learn how to get the files done properly if I don't practice. This stuff isn't as easy as plain ol' 3D modeling for animation. Coldiron, your dino character looks awesome, and you got a great deal for that printout. With a nice paint job it will look realistic since it already has that rough texture for a "dino skin". Kudos! TMZ, that sea kaiju looks badass- it reminds me of the one from the early Godzilla movies back in the '70s. How big is that thing? Will it suit the scale for your SRC Mazingers? Would love to see it in a battle scene with them! Again, great job, guys! zozo-mag

I wonder if the material reacts to acetone like abs.

Wow, at first glance that thing looked scary... ...like waking up under a microscope, to suddenly seeing a Potato Bug staring me right in the eye! I thought that was a custom Dinosaur like the character in your avatar. Nice color scheme, please show us pics when you're done painting it- but not too close to the camera like That cos it's scary! lol zozo-mag

It is about 10 inches long from the end of the tail to the tip of the antennae, and about 5.5 inches wide from tip to tip of the legs. I will look great in battle with the SRC's! }D

No bro, I printed it on my own XYZ DaVinci Printer. That's why I want to learn how to make printable 3D stuff. I guess my 3D printer can handle it now, so I want to put it to use! }D

I guess my 3D printer can handle it now, so I want to put it to use! }D You handled it extremely well for your first shot at 3D printing! For a while there it looked like you were about to give up on 3D printing when you previously had trouble with your printer. But now it seems as though you're getting the hang of it. Hey, perhaps now I can try making the SKL wing bone files for you once again so this time you can print them from your machine? Let me know. I've got another RJer's 3D sample in my cue. zozo-mag
