Yow...that's a nice sculpt of Snarl. Maybe we're in some robot renaissance...it's great to see all these toymakers show up but...too many! I'm going to bankrupt trying to get them all. As cool as Gigapower's rendition looks, I'm passing... Just hope there's no diecast and the toy sucks. Otherwise, oof...this is going to be tough to pass.  |

Sticking with Fanstoys too : they choose to stay in MP design politics, that means details come on good placement, not too much, not few, reffer to G1 and keep dynamic shape like the cartoon does. Agree with you Chen, this Snaarl has maybe too much details and offers more than graphic panel lines : boulons, pins, etc... Same choice done by MMC on their Predaking. It's nice but a bit "off topic" for MP line. I missed the G1 Dinobots long time ago and do not feel to get them now. Getting a full MP set is more exciting (and pricey). Collecting 3P toys is now way more interesting than regular releases... Ok, I give my support to these young companies but I also building a collection with inovative approach to original characters, with good engineering, design, etc... And thinking about the limited runs these are producted, it's like having rare gems (and too much box in my house)... Let's see how this year will happen with all of these good toy creations.  Will these 3P toys really be limited run? I would think not considering they the more volume they do the more they maximize their profits. These are young companies we are talking about here. Takara seems to be focusing on the cars and gaurenteed hits. They are also into designs with multiple applications and uses. If they make another Dinobot they would have to make them all do to demand. Right now Takara is happy letting 3rd party companies take the cost of development and the profits for now since what they make also sells with less costs but higher profits. Its a tenuous "treaty" but for now works. As long as they don't release the same character their happy with letting these companies go. P companies help to maintain Transformers on demand and popularity. MP line is a car licence market for Takara... And big money. See how they conviced Volkswagen to be now a part of the game with BB (they refused on Binaltech). I won'tg be surprise to see A Porsche/Jazz coming soon. About production run, now it's easy to produce 5000 unit, prices changed a lot. As an example, Medicom Be@rbrick was more 10000 than 5000 for a limited run, like promotionnal Be@rbrick , crossover or exhibition gift. (I worked on a prototype for them with Namco Bandai) I am sure FT produce for a 1st run with 7000 units minimum, but Dinobots are famous, so they probably dealed a 100000. The competition now make the game harder for all these 3 companies. FT got a step forward with QuakeWave success. Bullsfire swoop is maybe the one in trouble now : I think it's an "aged toy" due to the MP Seekers mold. |

I pre-ordered mine from Automotom toys which is a Canadian store who in turn converted the price from US to Canadian so the price for me is now $211Cdn, ouch.

Ok after the wow factor wore off, I think once I get the FT Scoria it will determine who I go with. If I stick with FT then that just means three Dinobots left, if I go with Gigapower that means that I have to buy all five again at a unknown price by a unknown company.

...You could wait but you might also end up losing out on getting one and paying secondary prices if you don't pre-order. Those damn preorders... They offering only the security to hold the item, nothing more. It could be could that all these 3P toy companies could jump into kickstarter... They could all have their own shop, but that means the incoming shadow of Hasbro lawyers ! This Gigapower model is giving a great line up for our MP collection : imagine all Jurassic 5  If business works well for me and reviews of Gigapower show something great, I will jump on both makers. I like FT quality and design, no doubt. B these are huge and perfect on scale. FT did a wrong choice by trying to fit a bit to the MP-08 (with new shoes add-on). Their production is now on the go, so better is to choose that slag is the tiny guy of the crew and level up size for the rest of the Dinos. IMHO. |
