I'm was thinking of expanding the hips a bit but it might affect the look of Dai Apolon. Thankfully I noticed that my soc Danguard Ace shares the same type of blocky lower torso design so I'll examine this figure to help me with my problem. Another reference view... www.figurerealm.com/viewcustomfigure.php?FID=6636It's a custom figure, but a basic idea. Hope this helps. zozo-mag

Molding with my equipment is certainly difficult, our molding tools are meant for smaller jewelry and even if I can mold it casting would be another issue since my casting machine can only accomodate small pieces. That's the reason why I choose to make it manually instead of sculpting one out of wax and then casting it to metal. I know it is a huge matter of trust, but I (or Baron and I) would be willing to give you a cash deposit if you lend us the figure so we can cast it and make silicone molds to make resin casts of it. We will then return it to you, and pay you a fee for its use. We need to have that modern rendition of DIAPOLON!!! }D I actually find that a good idea and I do trust you guys cause you're veterans of this forum. You guys just have to wait for me to get this done to see if it's worth the trouble of molding.

magengar that lower torso design is interesting, I'll have to see if it does't alter the look I want to have.

magengar that lower torso design is interesting, I'll have to see if it does't alter the look I want to have. I had just finished watching that Dai Apolon movie "Shadow World", and I snagged a bunch of screen-captured bitmap images of the Dai Apolon robot. The images are 640x480 resolution size. Here they are inside this .rar folder, use Winzip or WinRar to unpack it so you can see the images... ( download size is 7mb)............... www.mediafire.com/download/ym0v5aqla74t7cm/DaiApolon_Screencaps.rarI tried to capture images of the robots from as many angles as possible, especially his backside and torso, the back of his head, plus one image of his foot just as he was blasting off to fly. He has two rocket engines on his back that are part of his backside armor; and his feet have rocket engines underneath- a single engine under each foot, like Mazinger-Z's foot engines. Hope these images will help you with your project. zozo-mag

magengar Really, really thank you bro. I just downloaded the files. I was busy the whole day working on some commisioned pins which I'll finish by tomorrow. I barely touched my figure but I did manage to improve the look of his "shorts" while staying true to his original design.

magengarI've been looking at the pics you've uploaded and man it's funny how much incosistency with design and proportions of most old school robot anime's. It's no wonder a lot of people (me included) have a hard time trying interpret these drawings. I'll be working on the boosters at the back later this evening and might start on the arms or legs.

Have you ever contemplated making silver Super-Robot head jewelery, such as rings and Bolo ties? Those would sell nicely in this hobby community. Here's what a Bolo tie looks like..... ......I often think about making my own, with resin (cast with a metallic pigment)... ...starting with something simple like a skull; and if it turned out good then I would try it with the head from my Yamato vinyl Grendizer figure. Just a thought. zozo-mag

Lol, yeah I've thought about making robot head rings and pendants. I just have too many on my plate in the meantime but I'm definitely considering it.

It's no wonder a lot of people (me included) have a hard time trying interpret these drawings. I'll be working on the boosters at the back later this evening and might start on the arms or legs. It's true, a lot of the classic anime shows were inconsistently drawn back in their day... Cell drawing was the "technology" back then. The only anime TV shows, that I can think of, that remained consistently drawn with each episode were Gatchaman and Mach GoGoGo (Speed Racer). Some other anime shows, like Mazinger-Z, had so many artists drawing the storyboards and characters that the inconsistencies were obvious. Just like you, even I can't rely on the video images whenever I need a true source material for any given project. zozo-mag

The only thing I can do is find a common ground with the many types of designs, and also I go with what I think is the most familiar representation of the character. Also giving the figure articulation is another headache to consider when making a figure because it really affects the proportions of the sculpt. That's one of the reasons why most src robots look a bit off since Bandai gave it a lot of articulation.

When it comes to making action-figures, there's always a compromise in order to meet the articulation standards. The more articulated an action-figure becomes, the body parts become affected and altered. As the saying goes, "The form must fit the function". zozo-mag

I'm now referring to my work as posable sculptures lol....

In any case, no matter what, you're doing a fantastic job with your work. Everyone else here feels the same way, and are all so excited to see this artwork take shape and form. Thank you for sharing it with us! zozo-mag

Those damn pins took me till night to finish so I had no time to tinker with my figure. At least they're done and I'm free to back to my project tonight. I think I'm gonna increase the bulk of his neck guard by just a bit before adding the jetpack.
