I've started working on the head in the meantime, I managed to find the time to start this project. I decided to use sterling silver since I've managed to save up some money and silver from one of my sideline jobs. This is probably gonna take a while since I'm actually loaded with work for the whole month.

I was able to make the face today. The eyes are engraved and it was difficult to get right. I'm really gunning for the old school look of Dai Apolon.

It's a beautiful custom figure indeed. You and that guy have brought new inspiration to this hobby. It's nice to know custom figures can also be made from other materials besides plastic and resin! Thanks for sharing! zozo-mag

Each material has it's own strengths and weaknesses the key is knowing their limitations so you'd know where to apply them. I've been considering wood for a while. I've been pondering for weeks on what kind of wood would be best suited for making a Mazinger Z machinder type of figure. Wood is a good material for a large figure but the problem here is trying to find source for a good one and getting the right tools to shape it.

I just finished the head and all it needs is a little sanding and then buffing. It actually turned out great withoutgoing through any problems. The bars on the mouth is actually removable and just clips on the horns.

So nice!!!!
If you are looking for reasonable quality wood carving tools that are not expensive, I can ask my younger brother. He worked with different mediums in university and I remember we went to buy him a detail carving kit locally by a very good quality manufacturer.

Thanks for the offer, I'll look into that if I ever decide to make that wooden Mazinger figure. I do actually have designed most of the parts in my head and some of the parts would be brass specially the horns since it's probable that it's gonna break if it's made out of wood. Still thinking if some leg articulation is necessary for a figure that big and heavy. I still like my figures being able to have some foot poses.

Another awesome project bro! BTW, as nice as that Robocain project is, I would trade a thousand of them for one of your custom super robots! Besides, machine made parts are no match for hand made ones that look as good as the ones you make. . You Sir are an artist! }D

But even if that Cain was machined it still took mad skill to operate machinery so I have to give him the recognition he deserves. This is my first silver figure so I'll go all out on this and I need to top my garada figure. I'm gonna use the things I learned from that project to make better figures. This is probably gonna be the size of src Mazinkaiser since I want to make something a bit bigger.

I managed to polish the face and I'm now starting to work on the body. I'm still figuring out how much bulk his chest should have.
