Yep, it's also jumbo in consuming filament and printing time. It's a good thing it gets printed while I'm working or else the wait for me would be unbearable. I also found a simple way to make the parts a bit more durable by just making light crisscross patterns on the surface of the printed object using a soldering iron. I would only advice doing this if you are going to paint the model.

Wow, I stumbled upon the the pilot episode for Mighty Orbots. They were supposed to name him Broots which is also an anagram for Orbots......which is also an anagram for robot. Anyway I'm glad they changed the name and look of the robots but the animation is still superb and really fluid for it's time.

It is a labor of love. It just saddens me that this robot is almost forgotten and very few remember him. I really enjoyed watching this show as a kid and the opening theme really stuck with me through all these years. I'm just glad I went ahead and made him though it will be a while before I make another jumbo. I still have to re-design the arm joints as the first version doesn't look durable when printed.

I'm certain the Mighty Orbots theme song is playing back in your head while you're working on this project all this time, too. That's an inspiration momentum. zozo-mag

Lol, that's exaclty how I work. Listening to the theme songs gives me better visualization of the robot in my head. I'm now starting to print the upper arms as I've already finalized the design for the arms.

Bro, I'm gonna suggest you use an HDPE (polyethylene) piece from a thick plastic bottle to replace the ratchet peg (red rectangular piece). ABS on ABS wears out pretty quickly, as I found out myself. Yes, even with a spring. However, HDPE is strong, smooth and will not damage the teeth of the joint. }D

The softer hdpe would reduce wear on the abs when it's on contact with the ratchet teeth.

Yeap. It worked for me, so I wanted to pass the tip on to you. }D I need to find a thick bottle cap for the ratchet pin. I'm almost done with the rocket punch design and i'm sure it would take the stress from the thick spring needed to launch a fist. Though I'm worried for the rocket fist itself if it would withstand the stress of the spring pushing against it while it is mounted on the arm.

I guess you could make the hole where the pin grabs the fist a lot thicker, or make a metal or stronger plastic insert. Well, you could also use weaker springs as well. You know, the Bandai Neo Jumbo Shin Mazinger had that same problem. The spring was way too strong for the latching mechanism, which would end up causing accidental rocket punch attacks. }D

LOL... nah! After it was released and I got it, my Neo Jumbo Shin Mazinger was only out of its box for a few days, and then went back inside and into a crate for storage. You know Shin Mazinger has never been my cup of tea. }D

Well, yeah, but look on the bright side: You purchased that Shin Maz jumbo in the nick of time back when it was released. Because now it's become expensive in the eBay aftermarket. Do like Gravewolf is doing: print a jumbo Mazinger-Z in the same size and sculpt as the Shin Maz jumbo, but with the Toei rendition. zozo-mag

Or better yet replace it with a printed mazinger head and breast fire. I just don't know if the neo mazinger is easy to dismantle. Managed to print the upper arms and the upper elbow connector, starting to print the lower arms with the launching gimick. I had a couple of bad prints due to some issues but it got fixed. Having the arms assembled this way and on different print orientations makes it more robust.

Are those upper arms printed with two separate color filaments? That's amazing! zozo-mag
