It's a short lived cartoon series in the eighties. Sadly it got canned cause Tonka filed a lawsuit against this cartoom. I really liked watching this as a kid and even the opening theme was kickass.

Gotta love the jumbo bug. Nice work on your project Tristan. Never saw this cartoon, but I never saw any of the Super Robots as a kid either.

For those who've never seen the Mighty Orbots series, feast your eyes... Mighty Orbots, full combining sequence
( Americanized version...) ...Unfortunately, I hardly watched this series- back in the day I ignored it because I felt it was a G.I.Joe-styled Voltron ripoff. I regret ignoring this series. ( Japanese version...) "Orobotsu... GATTAI!" ...If I had known this was a Japanese original series, I would've ordered a VHS copy of it! But, this cartoon was made in the U.S. You'll find some full Mighty Orbots episodes on Youtube. It was an American produced TV animation show, but animation was made by Japanese people. The animation director was Osamu Dezaki (Remi, Golgo13, Cobra) (R.I.P.) and character designs were made by Akio Sugino (Cobra, Remi, Ash*ta no Joe). zozo-mag

Yikes! The separate components are ridiculous looking! The combined mode looks great thou. So Mag, this show was made for USA, but still had Japanese audio? That's weird... BTW, I can see this show was a total ripoff of GodMars. }D

Well, it was done by the same studio that produced GodMars. As Magengar mentioned this TV show was developed for American TV, which explains the silliness of the era. Unfortunately, this show was canceled due to Tonka's lawsuit stating that it infringed their Gobots property. (Since when GodMars was part of Gobots?). As for the Japanese clip, chances are that the show ended up being exported to Japan. I wonder if the show continued there, as in more episodes were created after the US cancelation.

I didn't know there was an alternate combination sequence that was in japanese!! And thanks to that clip I've found and corrected an error in my orbots head. Awesome find Tony! Yeah the characters look a bit silly but they are silly and they each have distinct personality. I still enjoy the watching the episodes and while it maybe a god mars rip off considering it was made by the same animation company I think it's more of a spiritual successor like what Voltes V is derived from Combattler V.

The animation and music was all very good compared to what kids are offered today.

Gravewolf, here is a slightly different clip from an episode, it has a less detailed transformation sequence but some more detailed shots of the robot.
Also if you use the suggested videos below that one, or search "mighty orbots" on YouTube you should be able to find all the episodes someone uploaded. There might be better shots for you to check the design against.

I totally remember this cartoon. It was in the same era as the kid who transformed into a car when he got hot and back to a human when he got cold. I remember the little girl robot who was part of the transformation wanted to be human so a bad guy made her human so they couldn't combine. Good times Good times

That looks good. There aren't too many episodes so if you comb through them you might get some small details here and there.
The clip I found seemed like it had a good split second side shot or two of the head (when in space). I'm sure the others have more.

BTW, I can see this show was a total ripoff of GodMars. }D I'm beginning to think that after the show was cancelled here in the U.S. it was imported to Japan back to the same studio who animated it, and so perhaps they overdubbed it in Japanese for their audience. Ya know what, I wouldn't be surprised if The Mighty Orbots gained a better welcome and popularity in the Asian market- given their fascination with Sci-Fi fantasy/robot anime. Think about it, the Orbot in combined form would make a great SOC and SRC figure. Bandai and Evolution Toy should jump on this! ( I wouldn't be surprised an official Mighty Orbot action figure becomes a reality. But for now there is this awesome custom build version by Gravewolf). The Godmars reference ( or for that matter, the Tribute) seems fairly obvious... Similar sculpt as Godmars. When I was watching the combining sequence I was immediately reminded of the two vehicle girl-bots from the "GaoGaiGar, Final Fusion" 7-episode series... Orbot's yellow arm is a female AI bot. zozo-mag

Are you using the Firefox browser? If so, get the downloader plugin known as Flash Video Downloader... ...it will install into your browser with two blue arrows... the first one is the actual downloader located next to the URL address bar. The second blue arrow towards the right of your browser menu is the browser's Download History. The Downloader will snatch videos from YT and any other site that streams and plays back videos. In the first tab of your Firefox Options for downloads you can choose the folder where you wanna save your snatched videos. Then go to all them Orbot video links, as soon as they start streaming for playback on Youtube you can just click the downloader to download the video to your personal folder. ( you can choose to download the video in HD which will use a lot of disk space, or Low definition which will use less disk space but will present a decent quality .mp4 video for playback.) Then click the download history icon in your browser to see the video file listed- click "open containing folder" to go to the folder where the video got saved............ ...then download and install this mediaplayer player.gomlab.com/download.gom...then go to the video file and right-click "Open with" and choose GomPlayer as the program to open the file. If gomplayer.exe is not listed in th eprogram list, browse for it in the Program Files folder and click it as a default player for all video files. ...then playback the Orbots video in that mediaplayer... it has an advanced Screen-capture tool, pause the video when the head shot appears... click the screen-capture command and it will save an image (jpeg or bitmap) to a designated folder... go to that folder to view the captured image, and Bingo! you now have a good view of Orbot's head. ... with this setup you'll be ready to capture your own images from videos, for visual references when you make your robot figures. Hope this helps! =============================== For future reference:Windows Mediaplayer can also "snatch" videos... just copy the video's URL address, open Windows Mediaplayer, and past the URL in the "Go To URL" box, and the video will stream to your computer into a temp folder. But... locating that temp folder to find the video is a b*tch-- AND, Windows Mediaplayer doesn't have a Screen-capture tool. And, the "snatch" doesn't always work IF the video is DRM-protected ( Digital Rights Management). Firefox plugin Flash Video Downloader will save the snatched video to whichever folder YOU choose through the Firefox Tools/Options setting, regardless of protected or unprotected content. Meanwhile, Gomplayer will create a designated Screen-capture folder in C:/My Documents/Gomplayer/Capture where it's easy to find your images that were screen-captured from the videos. zozo-mag
