You can go back on this thread and find emails directly from WEP where they state this is not licensed. I for one, have had direct contact with them. I wanted to get this because I think Icarus did a great job with it. But I don't care to support them if they are flat out lying. Aside from that, I've been seeing too many QC issues from reviewers. Paint smudges on the lions heads and one even had its eyes missing. Along with a number of other things that don't justify the cost. But I dont wanna seem like I'm trashing the model. It really does look great! Looks like not much has changed besides some changes to the sculpt compared to the KoB. The KoB was riddle with QC issues. Actually a lot has changed with the new one.

QC issues w the KOB or Icarus? I’ve seen nothing but rave reviews. same thing lol some of the early units of the KOB (by MT) was very awful the figure came in broken for some, they tried to rush the production before WEP shut them down however in the 2nd patch of production, the QCs were minimum it even came with numbers stickers which made people buy it again lol so far i didn't read anything about QCs in the black version so i think the same thing will go on the regular version

Why would it clear things up? We know they simply printed bogus Trademark information on the box. WEP has told us they have done this. This is not a matter for debate or even one for the Courts. WEP owns the Trademark, and WEP is the absolute authority on who is and is not licensed to use it. It's how Trademarks work and why they exist. Icarus keeps doubling down trying to claim this is a licensed offering. It's insanity. They have had a growing legit business. Why suddenly do this and trigger import/export risks?

This is also a matter of believing a reviewer... and an actual representative of WEP confirming that it's unlicensed.

Acutely he is a retailer in Philippine with direct communication with most companies. You can ask him yourself if you want to know the whole story and he happily applies to you. Please listen to all side of the stories before making judgement as sometimes miss communication can lead to all can of misunderstanding. Most retailers I deal with in Europe told me the same thing about this gokin. Maybe WEB isn't happy they licenecd throug classic media that's why their angry about it.

So it means that he's in communication with Icarus rather than Classic Media/DreamWorks/WEP themselves? WEP not being happy with it being licensed through Classic doesn't make sense at all, since they would also have to have a say in it because it's literally their IP.

Anyways...I tried ordering this magnificent set from toyercity and haven’t recieved an invoice. It’s been five days. I emailed and got a response from a guy asking if I want one. I said yes still no invoice. Where did everyone get theirs because this is for a bday and I’m tired of Toyercity slacking on this. I feel like Jonah Hill trying to buy the shoes in 40 year old virgin. I just want to buy it....

Everyone has them on preorder for March. Toys republic still has them. It’s Icarus Toys official store page. It’s $300 shipped. toysrepublic.com/english/ug-gokin-voltron-dark-edition-1.html

S Gokin It’s either unlicensed or the greatest lack of communication in the history of gokins. If WEP doesn’t know that it’s licensed but dreamworks does and all the while icarus is trying to contact WEP to clear it up but WEP won’t respond, (according to Icarus) then WEP is even more inept than we thought.

Don’t know why people are still arguing this. WEP made it clear they did not license this product. BBTS pulled it because it is not licensed. DreamWorks (classic media) can not negotiate toy licenses. classics.dreamworksanimation.com/?portfolio=project-title-7 Look at bottom right of web page. “World event production under license to classic media.” WEP owns Voltron and Go Lion. Only WEP can give license to manufacture Voltron Toys.

i just watched the clip posted by shintitan and its interesting indeed, does this explain why they took ages to release the figure ? most of people so far dont care about the license, and for me personally i will buy an unlicensed product the have its own unique touches (design, quality, engineering,.etc) rather than buying a licensed product that is a KO of something else, cough (playmates) lol

I think a lot of us don’t give a $hi# if I want it, i will buy it. Can people just move on please and just collect and not worry about bureaucracy of trademarks etc etc

Some of us do care about the legality and authenticity of what we collect. This board serves as a source for us, so we can informed purchases. So this topic certainly belongs here for all to see. It doesn't matter to me if someone buys a bootleg or a KO or whatever, but they should have access to the truth about a product. We all spend a good amount of money on this stuff and deserve to know.
