Depending on how available R-Gun has been. I haven been looking, but R-Gun brand new is going for 28000yen on Mandarake, surprisingly didn't drop on price like the SRX. The price you got on TFSource is definitely a good buy from what I can tell. Can't guarantee you won't be seeing crazy deals like we did on SRX later, but you already gained a lot on your Amiami SRX deal, and right now getting R-Gun at below MSRP. Sounds like a win-win already. Sure a lot cheaper than my set. 😅
Was SRX heavily featured in Super Robot Wars? Or did it just have a small cameo appearance? I'm interested in learning more about it as I find anime material for it seems limited.
Depending on which SRW game you are looking at. On early games like Shin (1996), Alpha (early 2000s), or the first couple SRW OG (OG games only feature original mechs and characters), SRX team is actually the main protagonists, with a very good story about them. Their plotline form the backbone of the early SRW story, before things branched off in the newer games and their role became less prominent in the later games as more OG characters and mechs took the spotlight (naturally, as there are many of them). SRX will keep popping up in later SRW games either as side cast or bonus units, but they remain to be one of fan's favorite. They are present in the latest entry SRW30 as well, as free DLC unit.
If you watch the SRW anime (has a short 3 episodes OVA, then 2 TV seasons, I believe), they are also heavily featured, and adapted more or less the same story as they were in the early games. Though the anime has a very big cast, so they are among the main protagonists, but not exclusively so, along with other main characters as well. Maybe because the anime quality is not top tier, I enjoyed it less than I did when playing the game (maybe due to the lost of the element of surprise on the plotline), so only watched some parts of the seasons, but not in its entirety. But I was very into them back then before the anime days, even bought drama CDs of them to listen to. Just thought they were really cool characters. And the funny thing is, Ryusei, the main pilot of R1 and SRX, is also a robot nerd just like us. He made up ridiculous/cool names for all the moves of SRX as he see fit, just to sound cooler.
