Courtesy of mpchi in the Tamashii Nations 2022 thread: the Megahouse release for comparison.
Also for comparison, the Takatoku 1/80th scale toy, posted by mrclean08. Anyone got a nice pic of the Takatoku 1/40th scale, for the sake of completeness?

What I do like about the HMR are those small black triangles they added back to the body, makes it really look like the vintage Orguss and Macross line art. Very nice touch. Megahouse only retained some of those on the chest, but removed the others going for a smoother cleaner look.

The Takatoku 1/40 still holds up well to this day. Aside the much simpler engineering and yellowing plastic, it is still a fine toy to play with and transform. I've never had one, but it certainly gives me chunky monkey style vibes. Looks very solid and fun. What I do like about the HMR are those small black triangles they added back to the body, makes it really look like the vintage Orguss and Macross line art. Very nice touch. Megahouse only retained some of those on the chest, but removed the others going for a smoother cleaner look. Comparing the two, I think I actually prefer the cleaner look of the Megahouse. (In fact, I prefer pretty much everything about the Megahouse.)
At the moment, I'm more interested in the possibility, however small and distant, of HMR Ishkicks and Nikicks. Bandai could still turn this around with a bit of redesign and better color selection for the Orguss, but I'm not sure what to expect in that regard.

The form, proportion, and colors, Megahouse wins for sure. I am curious if HMR will release the other mechs of the show as well. If it is just the Orguss, I don't need one, already have the Megahouse. But if they release the other mechs, that will make a difference of collecting a line rather than a single. And if Bandai engineered this Orguss to transform much simpler than the Megahouse, then it may have the upper hand of being more playable. Will have to see review samples to tell. On a side note, looks like the display at Tamashii Nation 2022 was mis-transformed on the crouch/hip area, when compared to the magazine scan. The white crouch was not fully rotated upwards, and the side brown parts are missing (crouch and hip all white on the toy show display). Maybe even Bandai knew they screwed up the brown colors, significantly lightened in the magazine photo.

Still has a ways to go for my liking, but does look better in the scan than the toy show pics.

Did they got rid of the metallic paint on the brown parts and go straight to unpainted plastic with metallic flakes? Some of the closeups on neck, elbow, and hinged areas looks unpainted (those tabs behind the head especially). Even some plastic swirling on the fist and the wing on this photo...

Very keen eyes, mpchi. I wouldn't have noticed those. Looks like a fun figure to play with.

Hey what time do the pre orders go live. 4pm Japan time? Usually, that's the case for most stores. Sometimes, a couple shops open an hour or two early or late.

Is it really that expensive to license Orguss stuff? 20,000 yen for a 6.7 inch semi-plastic figure...? I'm guessing the majority of the development cost went to licensing, maybe same situation with Megahouse. In comparison, the HMR VF-1J Armored Valk may be smaller at 5.5 inches, but it has tons of accessories for only 12,000 yen. Licensing plus engineering/tooling cost probably went up considerably... Or Bandai's just being Bandai

I purchased the Orguss Blu-Ray set from Discotek media on the weekend and I just finished watching the first 2 episodes. I'm a little bored, as I haven't even seen the Orgroid featured in the cartoon yet. But I'll give the series a chance as I want to be experience the anime in order to be better invested with the toy. I saw a review for the Megahouse version and it looked pretty cool. But I'm with Watari up above and wondering why 20,000 yen for a 6 inch semi plastic figure. I am interested to see how this Bandai version will turn out though.

come on guys, how come its cool for Riobot to overprice their stuff but its very forbidden for Bandai to do so
think about it, Orguss is not an easy figure to pull it have four modes and alot of parts to work around
tho i agree with you for the size it should be cheaper than this but its what its

Part of the problem, the Yen is bit weak, which is increasing the production costs in China. On top of that the inflated oil prices are increasing the plastic prices. Then the additional transport cost to get the product back to Japan before shipping to retail. It's an unfortunate combination of problems which results in increased prices for the collector. I'm hoping the favorable exchange rate with USD lessens the sting.

I have a strong feeling the Olsen color will be a P-Bandai exclusive.
