sh*t, it looks like Armada Tidal Wave!!! Considering this toys been around for a good twenty plus years I'd say it's the other way around. Tidal Wave is a nice homage though. Sorta. Not feeling the Wave SDF-1 though. I want a DYRL SDF-1 but it has to be bigger for that amount of money.

Wait, so this new Wave one is NOT a kit? Just making sure since this thread has discussed several SDF-1 products already and I was getting confused.
And yes, looking at the wide-shot photo above where I finally get a sense of scale (all previous photos posted showed only the SDF-1 up close)... hmm... I'm getting a "first-ever-SOC" feeling. You know - that feeling when you were a newbie collector and get your first SOC and realize you just paid a LOT of money for a relatively small tiny action figure. You don't know whether to excited that you finally got one or to be disappointed because you momentarily think you overpaid for one...

That's very nice, but very small for the price - since I have to be picky these days, I think I'll skip it and put the money saved towards SOC Ideon.

Probably still the same hybrid kit were parts are pre assembled, I'm thinking more like ZOIDS half toy half kit.

According to HLJ.COM it's going to be a "completed model" It will be able to transform from Fortress, to Cruise mode without swapping parts. www.hlj.com/product/WAVMC-41

i hope in the vintage reissue :-) for that price ($150-160US) you can get a nice vintage 80's US-release SDF-1 from Matchbox with box. or, Zarak, if you don't need the box, or have no interest in the Robotech logo, you can get one for around $50-70US. I pieced my boxed SDF-1 together from a bunch of different ones to save $$$. there are some excellent casters and mould-makers here on RJ so i'm sure you can find their posts to do it yourself or aske them if you want some replacement Valks or missles for your Takatoku. as for this new one: it is DEFINITELY pre-assembled, pre-painted, etc. BBTS originally listed it as a kit, but it is completed. (you know they've had a number of items listed like that recently... when it was listed as a kit or statue when it was die-cast assembled or ABS.) i think you're all crazy! i'm *definitely* getting this one, the only issue i can see are the arms: they look a little weak to me. It's going to be one of those things you pass on and kick yourself for missing out on. you know, it's really funny, i was talking to a friend around New Years last year, saying how i was feeling my collection was at a pretty good point, and i wouldn't be getting any new major pieces for a few years, unless Aoshima made a 1978 Blue Arcadia reissue, and a new dope SDF-1 came out, and look! time to go broke again!! yah! ;D

There's a thread on it over at macrossworld.
After I read it, I decided this was not for me.
Its small with minimal die-cast, and ridiculously overpriced.

The price is the limited availability, it is already "discontinued" on HLJ. I preordered it months ago, when they had it for a discount. This is the DYRL version. This will definitely be a classic in a few years.

Maybe so, but I really can't justify purchasing it especially after I saw a pic of it beside a 1/48 Valk and heard reports on its "limited" die-cast content. [IMO] it lacks "bang" for my buck amidst all the other up & coming releases And I'm almost positive wave will re-issue it if it ever appreciates just like the rest of them I'd rather get a valk ie 1/60 YF-19

Wow, it looks grand! But my wallet's not happy, and when it's not happy, I don't get toys.

Come on? You didn't expect the 1:40 Valk to land on this did you? It is like the Takatoku version; smaller than the valks albeit for the main guns. It is a DYRL version of the SDF-1. That in itself makes this a collectible worthy of many Macross collector. The diecast content doesn't really matter since it is a nice looking model/toy.
