Thanks for the great review, Gold. I'm not too worried about the seemingly fragile pegs. If it falls it may break at those points, yes, but falling is doomsday for lots of stuff. Drop a SOP Yamato and see how many pieces it ends up in- but that doesn't keep it from being awesome. Anyway, to me this looks almost perfect- if only the waist was about 2 millimeters wider and the plastic lion heads painted to match the diecast, it'd be just about ideal. As it is, it still looks well worth buying at its price- it does look like a much better value than Zanbot, especially for people that are getting it for $120-$130 shipped. Love all the chrome and the 5 lion shot. excellent point bro, though the shoulder pegs can also seem to break with excessive force in attaching the red and green lions, or when always attaching and removing these lions (durability in playware). extra care is needed with these parts. anyways, i'm getting mine this january. this mp voltron rocks!

ARgh! I don't get to see your pics here at my office (probably filtered under the "personal storage and network" category). Still - good review. When you say it reminds you of G1 Superion, I think of shoving heads into holes. I know, that sounds funny - but really, the G1 combiners connected by the small bots' heads, IIRC. In any case, those turned out to be decently durable - and in my childhood, believe me, I played with my Superion and Menasor plenty rough. If those are the pegs you're talking about, then I think it's not an issue. Thanks , in my case I had a bad experience with my G2 Superion. Gold Slingshot's head snapped off twice. Luckily a local supermarket had extra Slingshots..By the time I had gotten a 3rd Slingshot I decided to plug him in and leave him there.. sigh. Thanks for the compliments guys! OJA, hehehe, I'm with you on that one(what can I say? Voltes rules my world.. After Gaogaigar, that is) ;D BTW Here's another pic(thanks to Chen from Toyboxdx for the idea) I'm impressed the Voltron can acutally do this pose.. BTW, no photoshop tricks were used in this pic Gold

That too, is an awesome photo! I'm glad they made this one even more articulated than the original, which at the time was quite good for a DX Chogokin/GoDaikin. Slightly off topic here, but I read somewhere that Go Nagai created GoLion. Is that true?

nice review.. It makes me want to pick up this MPC. Its just unfortunate that it doesn't come with all a the secret compartments and cool weapons. But the articulation is pretty sweet.

Great review Gold!!! Here is my review: ;D ;D ;D But I'm still getting it... Like the drawing.. Too bad if Voltes gets release in North America as a comic book or anime. Most people would think its a ripoff of voltron.

Most people would think its a ripoff of voltron. Not unless they included Kenichi's mom's death in the second episode.. ;D. That tragedy was what really drew me into the Voltes series. Gold

Slightly off topic here, but I read somewhere that Go Nagai created GoLion. Is that true? Nah, it's not a Nagai creation. It's from Toei but the exact designer is kinda vague.

You don't see mass-producted Hasbro products with "thumbprints" in their paint or molding. No, but I've had plenty of issues with mass-produced Hasbro Transformers. Gotta Tow-Line with two left hands, some bad paint when it even has paint, plastic that comes pre-stressed, et cetera. My ex and I both had RiD Optimus Primes, but only one of them could combine with the trailer without the feet part falling off over and over, et cetera. Hasbro's QC is not perfect.

I had never heard this before until I read a consumer review for Gravion on Amazon and the guy candidly mentions that. I didn't think it was true. So was GoLion a complete fluke in Japan? Is there any chance we'll ever see another Bandai version?

Voltron was moderately popular in Japan but nowhere near as popular as he was in North America. Infact he was so popular that they had to create another 20 episodes just for N. American market. Yeah, it seems that Go Nagai is the most famous creator out there that he's credited with designs he didn't create like Voltron and Gaiking.

well he is and was a very influential man at the time. I mean how much of his stuff did it inspire? Must have been a awesome time to grow up in japan. Or to see it happen in working in the industry!

Some local toy collectors were discussing about Toynami's past design and quality flaws (most notably with the Alpha products) and quipped that if Toynami didn't produce the MPC Voltron right, it might as well close shop. I guess this time Toynami finally got their act together.
Anyway, the owner of a local toy shop let me handle the MPC Voltron. Its weight is impressive and the overall design is okay. I'm really want one to display with my SOC Dancouga and Zambot 3. However, I'm getting behind other items in my toy purchase list. I'll wait and see.

What I love about Voltron and is almost never seen with combiners or transformers is that the uncombined form is equally as cool as the combined form. Very, very cool.

I've never liked the "sculpt" of this thing from the very beginning. I feel like i'm looking at cubs instead of lions. GoCubs! It looks too skinny IMO but i guess you can't win all fans satisfaction for anything.
Is there ever a possible chance Bandai will release a SOC ver.? I'm pretty damn sure if they make it well like all of their SOC's it will sell out.
I just hope it's not an impossibility. Is it a liscencing problem? A personal dispute within the business or what?
The only good thing that i like is that it's a "new" rendition of "Voltron." Which has been looong over due. And the fact that they made the parts chrome like the original. I just hate the sculpt. Bandai, Takara, even Tomy has satisfied me more than this Toynami Voltron when it comes to apperance of their toys.
Oh well. I'll wait and see if the price goes down to let's say, "Take it for Free, just pay the shipping" mark.

I just got my Voltron and I have to say that I'm plenty satisfied. He's a heavy guy with lots of metal, and built sturdy too. In fact he's more sturdy than what I was expecting quite honestly. He's got ratchet joints pretty much everywhere, and the articulation is great. Good paint job. He's just all around a solid piece, and he shows really well too. With how tall he is and the bright colors, it really gives him a lot of presence. The box took me by surprise. Probably the most expensive packaging I've ever seen. Maybe not neccessary, but I'm not going to complain about it. There's nothing that I can complain about really. I'm more than happy with him.

too skinny for me, and if the tails on the joint gattai conectionon on red and green are plastic, well it just sounds like a repeat of the original's master flaw.
a pitty.

From the thread over at toybox, somebody bought one where a connection piece was cracked open and he said there is a metal support pin that runs through the center of the connection..for whatever that's worth, but at least it's not just pure plastic.
